At week three' date=' I can move to "smooth" foods. Is that what you are doing?[/quote']
My doctor calls the food "soft," but chef Dave calls this recipe "smooth.". Not sure if it's the same, but it seems similar.

Surgery weight 222 12/14Today 213
Needless to say I'm frustrated. Following doc orders and getting on treadmill daily. My body just needs to get on board
You and I are almost the same. Sleeved on 12/17. Down from 222 to 215. Getting 60-70 g of Protein. Getting 6-7 cups of Water. Consistently walking. Today did 3 1/4 miles on elliptical at gym. I would blame this on the diet I was prescribed...full liquids right after discharge...but my doctor says that his patients typically lose 15-20 lbs...presumably with the same instructions.. Guess we have to hang tough.

Hello Everyone. I am not new to the forum but new to all of you. I was sleeved on Dec. 17 as well and am down 15lbs. from 180. I feel really good about this. I am unable to get all of my Protein in or my liquid at this point. I have vomited a few times I think from eating too fast or that one bite too many.I did have a bleeding complication after surgery and my blood pressure dropped to 90/30 and I passed out in the hospital. I ended up having a blood transfusion with 3 bags of plasma too. I ended up staying in the hospital a couple extra nights. I came home with my drain tube in for 13 extra days. I got it out this last Monday. I went back to work today and did pretty well considering how extremely weak and tired I have been every day. Drying my hair takes forever because I have to stop several times to rest my arms. I am on the mend though.
I fell like I have stalled the last few days on the weight loss. Yesterday I was really not able to eat anything because it made me feel sick. Today was a better day and that seems to help the scale move. I think our bodies go into shock and I know for me when I don't eat enough food I will not lose weight. I spent the first 10 days on clear liquids and then 10 more on pureed. I get to move to soft foods like fish' date=' tuna, soft chicken, eggs etc. next Monday and I cannot wait. I am going to meet a couple girl friends tomorrow night and I think I might actually order some chicken brochettes (they are really soft and tasty) and chew them up really good.
One last thing. I am still very badly bruised and really swollen. How long did everyone stay swollen and sore? I am also sore on the right side of my body which is weird to me because isn't the stomach on the left side? Anyway nice to meet you all and hope we all keep up with each other on this thread since we are all on the same time line.[/quote']
I wonder if your bruising has to do with the need for a blood transfusion and plasma? I don't have any bruising...just scars where incisions are...And speaking of incisions, the right incision is the spot where they take out the removed stomach. That location was most painful for me when I had pain.
I have been exceedingly healthy post-surgery, but ihaven't lost much weight. We are on different food protocols even though we were sleeved the same day.
Have you tried Isopure green tea? It's like Snapple but with 40g of protein in a clear liquid. One bottle accounts for half my protein requirements.

If you are a low BMI, I think you should get feedback from low BMI-ers. Not sure if you will lose as fast as a high BMI-er.
-
I have Hashimoto's so my body temps run cooler to begin with, but since surgery, I wear a thick pair of socks at ALL times.
-
Just wanted to add pictures (I hope they worked!) the white shirt pics are the day before surgery and the other two are 2 weeks post! Seems to me like more than ten pounds' date=' which is why I'm so encouraged so far![/quote']You look good. What did your dr say about mucking stalls, etc when you are only starting week 3 of post-op? I know about mucking and I don't think my doc would approve of it until the end of January (6 weeks post op). Even though you are low BMI, you still had the same cuts made as the rest of us.
amys reacted to this -
Was cleared for elliptical yesterday, so a friend watched my kids so I could go back to the gym. Did an hour on the elliptical...Still slow....Only did three miles and 1/4 in an hour, but at least nothing hurt. I am going to have to get faster if I want to get 10,000 steps in a day. Even with the elliptical, I am just over 8,000, but it's unlikely that the movement around the house is going to give me another 2,000 steps by bedtime.

:-( Lucky u! I'll just keep hanging in there until I can:-)
Well, I am also notably the one who hasn't lost much weight. Coincidence?
-
If you are not enjoying it' date=' you will stop doing it. Better to go down to 2.5 or 2 mikes an hour and not mske yourself miserable.[/quote']
I grew up on a farm. I am a little old-fashioned in that I consider this mild discomfort. It's not enough to dissuade me from exercise. I am allergic to hay and I had to help my parents move hale bales, etc. That was worse.
It's also how I viewed pain after the surgery. To me, the only time I have ever felt like a 10 on the pain scale is when I delivered babies without any epidurals/pain reducers. Now, granted, unlike some, my doc did not have to do any additional surgery on me (re: hernias, gall bladders, etc) when I got my sleeve done. Also, I wasn't given a drain, which does not sound appealing. In any case, post surgery, my pain was never worse than a 5 and that was only while I was in the hospital.
But, Miss Meeganlee, I always appreciate your concern and encouragement. I definitely consider you a "friend" on this forum.

Look forward to trying this. (when I reach that stage)Well, I am only in week 3, but with differences in physician instructions, I am probably one of the few people in this forum who can eat this at week 3.

Be careful w Biotin. I was taking it and got cystic zits so quit. I'll be bald and zit free thanks. Loli could probably have lowered my dose tho. But, you haven't had surgery, yet. Is it possible that post-surgery, your body will not respond negatively to the Biotin? I mean, we need a lot more nutrients post-surgery than pre-surgery, so wouldn't biotin be something like that?

My doctor's office had a ChefDave.org recipe out called "Smooth Albacore tuna Spread." Tried it last night. pureed 7 oz albacore tuna, 1 tsp hot sauce, 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice, 1/4 cup light mayo, 1/4 cup light sour cream, 2 Tbsp fresh dill and 1 tsp garlic, minced. This makes SIX two-tablespoon servings. 8 g. Protein, 90 cal. The only thing I will do differently next time is omit the garlic. It's a little much for my stomach right now. I was skeptical that 2 Tbsps of tuna would be "satisfying," but it was.

Re: calories - I am definitely able to consume the target of 600-800 calories. I was never on a clear liquid diet post surgery. That being said' date=' my doctor's other patients are told the same thing and they still lose 15-20 lbs on average. As for walking, I have the stamina to walk for a long time, the problem is that I am on my neighbor's treadmill and I don't want to be going back and forth to her house too much, so I stay on for an hour. The treadmill kind of jostles me and I think that is what upsets my stomach (versus natural walking outside). I have a pedometer and even when I walk on the treadmill, I am still not up to 10,000 steps a day. That is really my first goal...to get to that target.[/quote']
Oh...and my doctor told me yesterday that he wants me to do a minimum of an hour of walking a day. He said I could break it up into smaller chunks of walking, but again, I am relying on the treadmill. If I go to a shopping mall, I have to take my four kids with me and it's less speedy walking.
-
We had a someone come talk to us and told us to start with 10 min 6 days a week. Each week add 10%. So far that has helped me. Good luck

So yesterday I had a panic attack because I havent had a bowel movement since surgery. I called my surgeon and left a message and when he called back he was through the roof! He said if no bowel movement is produced within 3-5 days after surgery you open yourself up to all the toxins that waste is leaving in your intestines. He also wanted me to do a magnesium citrate cleanse every 4 hours until bowel is produced' date=' but after my pre surgery experience i just can't keep it down! He also said if i don't have a bowel movement by today he will have to re-admit me and run some tests. He was soooo mad. But it's not like those specific instruction were in the after care packet. How was I to know? I hope he's over reacting!!!! I did however have some miralax last night and a stool softener this morning. Im sooo nervous![/quote']I haven't had your problem (yet), but honestly, I don't think it was in my release instructions. Sounds like he just assumed that you should know that, but would any of us know that without it being written up? The previous poster gave you some ideas about things you can take, so I hope that helps you. I was given Clear Lax when I left the hospital and I used it the first few days home to get things moving again. It was a tastelss additive that I put in my shakes.

I am on my phone and i just wrote a very longresponse and deleted it. Frustrating. Basicslly what i said was that this is about math. If yiu stick yo sll aspects of yiur docyirs plan' date=' the weight WILL come off, likely a few pounds a week. Dont get discouraged. I am diwn 10 pounds for the first teo weekz. I sm thinking good thoughts fir you.[/quote']
Thanks for encouragement...I know you are walking every day, but I am curious the duration and the rate (if known). I only began walking for an hour without stopping this week. To be honest, walking outside isn't really that much fun, because it is COLD (30s), so I have been borrowing my neighbor's treadmill. Well, the first time I used the treadmill for an hour, I had a lot of acid reflux afterwards, so I know that I could not have used it that long last week. Generally I have no pain in my abdomen and I can bend, but walking only 3MPH on the treadmill gets my stomach all upset.
-
The number one thing I have made sure to do is WALK everyday! Today I did 3.56miles. I am finding I am super hungry (probably due to high calorie burn). I
am doing three shakes a day and get to start weight training tomorrow (2wks post-op' date=' only allowed to loft up to 25lbs for next month). I am also doing creamy Soups (strained). And K2O Water Protein mixes.
I am trying to keep the weight loss momentum moving forward (praying for no stalls!).
You will get there! Just takes focus and movement.
Good luck

Once again, we get conflicting info from our doctors...not one standard answer...I was told NOT to lift anything heavier than 20 lbs (in every day life) and absolutely no weight lifting until the beginning of February (end of January/end of 6 week period). Walking yes. Weights no.

Have you had your TSH levels checked lately?[/quote']
I had my thyroid checked two weeks before surgery. My dose of synthroid has remained unchanged for about a year. Honestly, I think my energy is okay (not any worse). Someone on another thread suggested I lift weights? Um...Doctor said no weights until end of January. So confusing.

My surgery was12/28' date=' I had SILS and am blessed. So here at day 4 I am not getting enough fluids, but close. Definitely not getting 60gm of Protein. The supplements that I purchased make me so nauseated. I never had sweet tooth, now I can't take any of the favors. I vomited on day 2 after trying Protein Jello, talk about scary.I did tolerate a nectar, coconut flavor, but barely.
So I am going to keep on my broths, organic chicken was best, my fluids and just have to work on protein in week 2. Vomiting was scary and I don't want to do it again.
So I do have a few bottles of Isopure if anybody needs them. I know that many people don't mind the flavor, you can message me or email me .
So I have experienced hyper taste changes, and sensitivity to smells. Looking forward to full liquids in a few days[/quote']
Re:super smell....I suffered from that for about a week, but others said it lasted as long as 7 months! My taste was affected and I didn't like the protein powders I bought, so I switched to nonfat powdered MILK....I was told to add it to Soups, etc to boost protein. I was allowed "full" liquids immediately after I left the hospital. Not sure what your doctor told you to do.

wow.. lots of diversity between surgeons. This was what distressed me the most post-op when reading and posting at his forum....which I only discovered the weekend before surgery.
-
I too feel like I'm eating too much! I guess that explains my very slow weight loss lol :-( so sad. I was sleeve nov 13th and I've lost 18 pounds.I just got weighed for the first time officially post surgery. At 2weeks,2 days, I only lost 7 lbs. you were sleeved almost a month before me, so I think our trajectories are similar. Sigh...I am able to eat 600-800 calories a day...no reprucussions.
-
Glad to find this thread. Became hypothyroid after my first child was born 10 years ago. It has gotten progressively worse in ten years. I was sleeved on 12/17 and unlike most people in the first two weeks' date=' i've "only" lost 10 lbs (vs. 20-30). However, as long as my weight goes down, I guess I shouldn't complain.[/quote']I haven't even lost 10 lbs. weighed in officially today. Only down 7 in 2 weeks and 2 days. Is that a record in the slow-loss department?
-
Sleeved on 12/17 and down SEVEN pounds. Reviewed diet and exercise with doc today and I am not doing anything "wrong.". It's just my stupid-slow metabolism.
Awaiting my sleeve.
