    Not losing weight

I wasn't given a calorie guideline by my NUT. I was given a very explicit list of the Proteins I could buy. I was told not to buy anything that wasn't on the list. Boost Glucose Control (ready to drink), EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control (ready to drink), Slimfast Low Carb (ready to drink), Body Fortress Super Advanced whey Isolate (powder) are the products listed from Walmart. To be honest, I don't shop at Walmart, because I would rather support my local grocery store chains, but I do understand why some people only shop there. Getting back to the calorie thing. I haven't been tracking that, but I will start tomorrow. I really love Greek yogurt and I ate it pre-surgery, so it actually gives me comfort to eat it now. I don't enjoy the powdered proteins, but I am using them to boost the shakes. I will say one thing about being allowed blended/pureed Soups...I am not constipated. So, maybe that justifies a little carb/fiber.
  2. Maybe it's the clear liquids....My physician did not emphasize those over pureed Soups. Instead, the doctor/NUT were more interested in our Protein intake and staying hydrated. Obviously broth/jello is on the list of things I can eat, but there are lot of other suggestions. I am hoping that when I can exercise full-on, more pounds will come off. I was on a clear, liquid diet for three days pre-surgery and I felt like I was starving to death, so I am not sure how I would have handled the same diet for an entire week post-surgery. God bless you and your 25 lbs off! I'm sure you feel great.
  3. I said I wouldn't weigh myself until the doctor's office and then yesterday, I was following a thread that said you are supposed to lose 20 lbs the first two weeks post op. Unlike some people, my doctor and Bariatric Center allowed me "full" liquids the first week (meaning milk-based products) and cottage cheese (which can be chewed). So, I was never on clear liquids post-surgery. My walking has consisted of using a tread mill a few times (at my neighbor's house) and real-world walking (shopping trips, etc). I haven't pushed myself harder because I DO FEEL IT when I am done on the tread mill or shopping. Overdid it grocery shopping. Didn't lift anything heavier than 10 1bs, but the stretching, bending, etc...It added up after an hour.
  4. Thanks for the feedback. Sometimes I wonder if I didn't lose too much, because I lost 7 lbs three days prior to surgery on the liquid diet. I was in shock when I saw the scale on the day of surgery. That's a lot of weight in three days, but I did feel like I was starving...so no surprise. I do know that everyone's journey is different, but part of me wonders if my hypothyroidism is going to make it harder to take advantage of the sleeve. I do believe that my metabolism is a problem and it won't behave in a predictable way because of the thyroid. Usually, if you exercise more, your metabolism speeds up, but that hasn't been the case for me (in the past). Re: getting more protein - I will admit that last week I was not meeting protein requirements. Yesterday I had 70 g; Wednesday I had 53; Tuesday 74.5; Monday 79....When I couldn't tolerate "shakes," I drank at least one bottle of isopure (40 g) to make up for the lack of great protein consumption at meals.

    Dec 17th surgery date

DECEMBER 17-19 SLEEVERS - Wasn't going to weigh myself but broke down because of other posts I was reading. I've only lost 4 lbs....Feeling anxious because others have said that it is normal to lose 20 in two weeks. Not at the 2 week mark, yet, but with it only being three days away, I know that I won't even be close to 10. :-(
  6. I should add....for those who are weighing themselves all the time, is anyone "in my boat?"
  7. I guess most of the symptoms are the same as "hypothyroidism." I've been lucky. My cholesterol has never been high...even with the Hashimoto's/hypothyroidism. Besides fatigue, my other big problem is the sensitivity to cold. We do Natural Family Planning because we are Catholic (no criticism please) and I have to take my temperature every morning before I start moving around a lot. My basal temperature can go as low as the upper95s and usually is in the 96s. The charts they make to plot my temperarture start around 96.8, so half the time, my temperature doesn't even register on the chart. I don't know if being cold is related to my basic body temp or if it is poor circulation, but my feet (especially in winter) are always freezing.

    Pureed Foods

Where do you buy them? I buy family-sized canned chicken from costco, but I would be willing to buy small cans for me (for portion control).
  9. What have you noticed about Hashimoto's? Any tips for dealing with it?
  10. My doctor didn't give me any guidance about how much weight I was supposed to lose in 2 weeks. I am also on a liquid-pureed diet so I am allowed dairy: Greek yogurt, small curd cottage cheese and cream-based Soups (with added protein). I don't feel like I have lost any weight. My jeans still fit absolutely the same and my swelling has gone down post-surgery, so it's not the swelling. This thread is kind of making me anxious. I wasn't planning on weighing myself until I saw the doctor on January 2nd, but now I see why everyone is obsessed with it.
  11. I am not sure the surgery is going to help my metabolism, but I am hoping that if I can get some pounds off, I will have more energy. My energy levels are so low given my age (42). Also, I found out only in the past year (after having it for 10 years) that I have Hashimoto's. It's an autoimmune thyroid disease. Most long-term hypothyroidism is Hashimoto's. In any case, I've been trying to give up gluten and when they removed my stomach, part of what they removed was irritated. I am thinking it was gluten damage. My former endocrinologist did not think telling me I had Hashimoto's was significant because to him it was synonymous with hypothyroidism. However, my primary care physician said that in many auto-immune disorders, giving up gluten and possibly dairy and sugar improve the condition. I knew I would not be able to give up dairy, especially now. They say you can drink soy milk, but it's not as much Protein. Prior to surgery, when after many months of not eating gluten, I would have something (pasta, etc), I DID notice that it made me crampy and I was more prone to diarrhea. But, giving up gluten did not help with my energy and that has been the main thing bugging me.
  12. My doctor's office said we could move to the mushy food stage by week 3, IF WE COULD TOLERATE liquid-pureed food the first two weeks. But, if we could not tolerate the liquid-pureed stuff, they said to take it slow and listen to our bodies. Sounds to me like you just have to listen to your body and take it slow. Obviously if you get to more than one month post op and still can't tolerate mushy solids, that may be something that the doctor needs to fix. My doctor mentioned that if you get a stricture, it can make it hard to tolerate solids. They put something down your throat to loosen the stricture. It does not require opening you up...necessarily.
  13. Have you lost ANY weight or is this a slow down period?

    Bionic Smell?

My bionic smell is fortunately subsiding. It rears up once and a while for short periods of time, but I am hopeful that I will not be going half-a-year or more with this problem.
