Today, BariatricPal celebrates its 11th birthday! I am very proud of this accomplishment and of our dedicated BariatricPal members who have made the last 11 years possible.
How It All Started
I got the lap-band and came home from the hospital on July 2th 2003. Almost immediately, I went online to find out the answers to some of my questions and to share experiences with other weight loss surgery patients. To my dismay, I could not find an online social site that met my needs. The very next day, I started LapBandTalk.com with the goal of providing a welcoming community for lap-band patients and potential patients to provide support, encouragement, and advice to each other.
The Evolution of BariatricPal
LapBandTalk.com took off, and I eventually started VerticalSleeveTalk.com for gastric sleeve pre and post-op patients, RNYTalk.com for gastric bypass pre and post-op patients, and SleevePlicationTalk.com for sleeve plication pre and post-op patients. In 2013, 10 years after the launch of LapBandTalk.com, I decided to merge the boards into BariatricPal.com. This single community retains the welcoming environment of the individual boards, but has a stronger voice in advocating for weight loss surgery as a way to fight obesity.
We Hit Post Number 3.5 Million!
BariatricPal is still growing. Our community includes hundreds of thousands of members and 7 million monthly site visits. Our most recent milestone is an impressive 3.5 millionth post, which we hit on July 10! Further, I stated that Omar is a felon. That is a fact; I read it after a 30 second web search on his
name. He is a convicted felon and can never return to the US. That is a fact of his life, not name calling. To insinuate otherwise is superfluous; the facts are recorded by US Federal judge. Finally, here's my rant...for you and everyone else...if you are going to participate in this or any thread, for the love of sweet Jesus (that's for you MR), please:
1. Try to keep up. Don't ask the same question over and over, unless you are attempting some kind a bad cross-examination, hoping for some kind of slip-up. Note the emphasis on bad. Because if that's your tactic, your strategy is doomed from the start.
2. Use your best grammar. (I'm not a wordsmith by any means, but I use my college writing skills to form a cogent sentence even if I have to rewrite it a couple of times.) Also, slip the profanity. You just look dumb and uneducated.
3. Check your privilege. - google it if

I hate the player. I am disgusted by him. Some may have been willing participants of his shenanigans, but not all are. You don't randomly go into a patients room and start discussing your genitals for no reason. If you are a professional, you never have a relationship other than one of a professional nature with your patients. It is unethical to do that, it is unethical to accept gifts. There is no excuse for it.
And, I'm sorry. I must add this. Why, in this day and age with all the diseases out there would any intelligent person want to involve themselves in a casual sex relationship with someone who will sleep with any woman willing to spread her legs for him? Goodness, my health and self-respect are much more valuable to me than that.

Here's where we differ. You're a woman of the world -- a "big girl" to use your terms. Fair enough. In your case, no harm, no foul. You found the game worthwhile, and you played a player. Again, fair enough.
But everyone who got played by The Fabulous Omar doesn't have the same emotional resources, background, and resilience that you do. Not everyone who's a bariatric patient is in an informed position to consider carefully their responses within 24 hours post-surgery to a "player" who comes onto them hard and strong.
And that is why there are rules against players like Omar playing medical patients. In some countries (most countries?) there are actual laws against it. But in every situation, there are (in my opinion -- everyone obviously doesn't agree with me) moral rules against taking advantage of people to satisfy your own interests when they are IN YOUR CARE. And no one can say that during the medical experience one undergoes as a patient of Dr. Illan that they are not in the medical care of The Fabulous Omar.
See, that's my beef about this. Who is it that does the calculation that Patient X will be damaged by Omar's seductions and Patient Y will not be damaged by Omar's seductions? Obviously, The Fabulous Omar isn't in a position to do that and doesn't even attempt it.
He may be a player, to use your term. But in my book, being a player has a lot of manipulative, nasty aspects to the term. He's a lot of other things, too. He's a gigolo who seeks the most he can get (sexually and financially) for his services. And he's a nasty piece of work.
So I fall on the side of those here who think Dr. Illan should fire The Fabulous Omar's ass. One of these ladies who fell prey to his charms and wasn't a player may wind up filing charges against Dr. Illan. If so, they'll probably be motivated by a range of emotions to do so. But they may very well have the law on their side, too.
Dr. Illan, you're crazy if you keep Omar on your staff. If he's determined to make his living this way, let him work your patients from across the street.

And, once again, your reading and comprehension skills are truly lacking for someone who claims to be a teacher. Of course it is not predatory. I have been a volunteer member of the staff here for years. I worked for Alex for one year as a coordinator until I resigned because, as stated before, I received a promotion at my day job and was no longer able to continue to do both. Next, Alex is not a doctor, so your “Could such a relationship be considered predatory since you are a patient, as well?” statement just screams of ignorance on your part. Perhaps you ought to use your law enforcement skills a little better so you actually know what you are talking about.

Some knew me from here, some I had referred to Dr. Illan, some were referred to me by other victims or other people who know me from here and outside of here and know that I am standing up for their rights. By the way, it is now eight. You seem to have a very difficult time understanding my connection with the bariatric community and the fact that I know a lot of people as a result.
I didn’t say they were all long time users. I said I have been a member here for years and many people here know me. And shockingly, I also have a life outside of here. This is not the only place where people know me from. Some people have joined because we requested they do so in order to share what has happened to them in the hopes that others do not experience the same thing. Others are long-term members who have created an alternate ID due to such wonderful people as you who like to bully victims.
Now, I am not and will not waste any more of my time answering the same questions over and over again simply because you have poor reading and comprehension skills and apparently suffer from some type of memory loss.
Instead of having Omar feed you information, I again challenge you to see if he has the cajones to man up and speak for himself. I am done with you. I have no time for enablers, and that is what you and the Omar worshippers are. You are all so in love with him, so hypnotized by him, that you continue to defend him knowing he is a criminal, knowing if he enters the US he will be arrested, and knowing he victimizes woman. By your insistence on defending him, you are enabling him to continue to take advantage of his patients.
I’ll be honest, I couldn’t really give two hoots about his sob story about his past. He made his decisions, he needs to take responsibility for them and accept the consequences instead of running to another country like a coward. What I do care about is that in no way, shape or form is it acceptable for any employee of a physician to take advantage of his patients and seek romantic/sexual relationships with them. Whether the patient is supposedly willing or not, it is his responsibility to not allow this to happen. He is unprofessional, unethical and has no morals, none! As I said, he is a pig and he disgusts me. I will defend these women in any way I know how.

Like I previously said.  There are many, many more, many who will never come forward.  They are married, afraid, have children, embarrassed, and have seen the abuse here.  Why in hello would they put themselves in this arena.  Whoever you are, at least contact Susan.  You never have to go public, just talk to someone.  God Bless.

There is so much I want to say, but ya know how you have those days where nothing has gone right and you're this close to just blowing up? Yes, I'm there. And if it happens here, it won't be pretty. I am so tired of the fan club defending a man who gets his rocks off on preying on vulnerable, innocent victims just because they weren't unfortunate enough to have it happen to them. This man is about as low as they come. If you all could see the new information that has been shared with me today, you would just vomit. He is disgusting. A pig. Mankind in its worse form. I can only hope what I have learned today can be shared with all of you soon. He is actually proud of himself and bragging about what he has done and gets away. Of course, the Omar Worshippers will continue to deny it. They will continue to try and discredit and bully the victims. They will continue to try to convince you I made this all up. Go for it. Because in the end, I have the proof, I know the victims and we are doing what we need to do both publicly and privately to have this situation death with.

If you had the proof to hand and the 'analysis' already done, you'dve been able to quickly and adeptly retrieve the said 'similar sentences', copy and paste them and highlight where, the tone and nuances were identical.

The only somewhat truth is that yes, because, as I have stated previously, I do feel Dr. Illan is a good surgeon, I was considering him for my revision and had a very brief discussion with Omar about it, but later dismissed that thought because I prefer to stay in the US for my surgery. I never pursued it any further. This all took place several weeks prior to six of the seven woman coming forward to me. I did not and would not have considered it afterwards. I am curious, as myself and Bill are the only ones who knew about this, and clearly Bill hasn't spoken to you, why instead of trying to feed blown out of proportion information and lies to you to ask me, why doesn't Omar man up himself and confront me with his questions directly? I am perfectly willing to speak with him, if he has the cajones to do so. But, as he knows he is in the wrong, I don't suspect he does.

Why are you so obsessed with Susan? This is not her truth! It is the truth of seven women who came forward with a warning! She just so happens to be the person that was not afraid to get the truth out there about a man who likes to seduce obese women. If they would have come to me or any other person on here they could trust, I would have been the one standing up for them and warning other women who might go to that company.
