I definitely won't be popular with this response..but why the hell would you cut 85% of your stomach out to be healthy only to die of Lung Cancer because you can't quit smoking..
And yes I am a reformed smoker so I can say that. I quit smoking on December 3rd, 2012 at 6pm and have NEVER looked back. I wish you luck in not continuing to smoking but if you are looking for validation to continue from this gal..you aren't gonna get it. I am sure there will be others who will say they continued to smoke etc., but to me it just makes no sense.

So why can't you eat normally again? That's not at all true. You can eat like a normal person, just less.

Sure, in the beginning it is normal to mourn your "old life". I used food as a coping mechanism for years, and not having that old crutch to fall back on has been hard. Nothing that is worthwhile is easy, including gastric sleeve surgery. I found a fabulous therapist who is helping me deal with the emotional side of this surgery. What I meant about "eating normally" is that yes, there will be things you will have to avoid, like you mentioned, beer, pop, etc. You will have to learn how to pick the right foods that keep you on track, but that's the beauty of the sleeve. It gives you that extra support to make those choices. After the sleeve, you can go to picnics, holidays, family dinners, restaurants, etc. You will just be eating differently than before, but still "normal". These changes are necessary in order to save you from an early and very uncomfortable death. It's normal to have the feelings you're having- but people should not be saying things to you that are clearly well intentioned but ignorant.

Well at least when you're lying in your coffin dead from weight-related health issues, you will have a good looking head of hair! How's that for perspective/tough love?

MFP is having server issues today, so it may be them and not you. Give it some time.
Shutting off your tablet will "force close" all problems - that's not an issue.

I don't know if I'm the only one who gets EXTREMELY annoyed when reading complaints about alleged "stalls". *sigh* sometimes I feel empathy for folks but most times I feel extreme aggravation. Listen folks...we aren't gonna lose weight every day or every week for that matter. If that was the case we would lose 365 lbs in a year! This surgery was not intended to be a "quick fix". I personally don't believe in "stalls". Have I experienced weeks of no loss??? SURE! What did I do to "break my stall"? NOTHING!!! Im 8 month's out and still follow my doctors orders and exercise...REGULARLY. That's it...that's all! When the numbers don't move I don't give into fear...I simply "stay the course". I really get dissappointed when I read about folks being taking on an emotional roller coaster by the scale. If you are eating what you're suppose to be eating and exercising like you're suppose too...YOU WILL LOSE!!!! This is not a race...its a lifelong journey. Our main goal should be to optimize our health and live better lives..not chasing a number on a scale or a size. We have to have the mindsets of those who've lost weight and maintain healthy lifestyles without surgery! I hope I don't sound harsh or judgemental...that's not my intention. I just want to encourage those who are feeling down about the "sta lls" or "slow loss" not to give up! I send my "cyber love" to all of you!

    Hello all
I see you are all getting ready or just had the surgery. Wanted to share my story to ease fears and return the favor of how this site helped me. I am now 46 and had my sleeve done in 8/10 at that time I was about 400 pounds 54 waist 5 xl shirt. I decided it was time for many reasons including health. I did all the hoops and jumps required before surgery as you all are. Big difference I wanted to quit something 3 months prior that was near and dear to me which was soda to see if I could do it and to prove this was for life. July 2010 was my last soda and still haven't touched one. I do recommend getting different types of post surgery shakes I had banana and to this day will not even smell one. Dumping get used to it I'm by far not a diet super model freak but won't eat pork or beef and ANYTHING greasy. My worse enemies. I stick to a decent diet that has nothing bad in it. Well here I am today weighing 220 pounds w a waist of 36 and shirt l-xl area. Bottom line put your heart and soul into this and one day you can help like I hope I did. The one thing I had a lot of issues with was severe dehydration so if married make a commitment to a water bottle at all times touching that ring. I mean all day long constant Water. I like crystal light myself as well. I did lose 150 the first year and have since lost the rest and have leveled off now. I do hope this inspires and eases some worries. I will check in on this thread to answer any questions. I can go on all day about my new found happiness. Now I'm headed out to Breakfast and sit in the booth without fear of not fitting. Been married 19 years before telling my wife no booth I like tables because of it. Bet someone can relate. Good day all from San Jose ca

lilbearzmom got a reaction from Kalimomof3 in Only losing 50 pounds in 7 months, is that too little of a weight loss?
I am a little over 6 months out as well (surgery 12/17/12). I eat between 1000-1200 in general. One day I went over 1200 by 199. I have done pretty well, lost 84 lbs since surgery, but I feel like I really have to work at it more and more. Obviously the first six months are the "easiest", as odd as it sounds. I am "hungrier", can eat pretty much anything now, and can eat more than ever. The restriction is still there, though, when I eat the right things. My weight loss has slowed for sure as well. I think this is fairly normal for where we are in our journeys. 50 lbs is nothing to sneeze at for sure- it's a good loss!
