Rate the pain post op 1-10.. And why?

I don't feel mine was above a 5 the whole time- by day 5 it was a 1-0 and by day six I was off of the pain meds competely. I think I have a relatively high pain threshhold- I had a c-section with my son 8 years ago and had minimal pain with that. They gave me a script for percoset on release from the hospital that I never even filled. I kind of wish I had- love those meds- they are truly happy pills LOL -Kendra

    Should I be worried?

So do you still have the pleural effusions? That could be what's causing the breathing issues. Do you still have diuretics prescribed? I would say that you need to take it really easy and take as much time off as possible. Once your poor wet lungs are resolved, you should feel much better. I am a soon-to-be Respiratory Therapist, so breathing issues like this really get my attention. Also, keep using your incentive spirometer. It can be a pain, but its very good for keeping further surgery complications from happening. Good luck!!!! -Kendra
  3. If there's one lesson to be learned that will save you a lot of stress- NO ONE IS TYPICAL! Everyone is different and some people will lose faster than others. Please don't compare yourself or your journey with anyone else's. I am almost 2 weeks post-op and I am down about 13 lbs from my surgery date. My first post-op appt is Monday the 31st and I can pretty much assume I won't be down 20 pounds. I had the same post-op diet as you to the letter. Good luck and please hang in there- you're doing great!!!! -Kendra
  4. OMG that's so funny- I have also been just smelling foods that look so good to me- I have to have SOME part of it- at least smelling it is safe! LOL! -Kendra

    Post-Op pain..

One word: percoset. Do not be shy about taking the pain pills the doctor prescribes. I was on morphine while in the hospital (ugh) and percoset at home. You need to be as pain free as possible to help you heal. A body stressed by pain has a harder time. I was off the pain pills by day 6. In all honesty, my pain level was never above a 5 (1-10 scale) the whole time. Good luck to you!!!! -Kendra

    in so mich pain!

I agree- hang in there- for me it was day five when I woke up and realized the pain had really diminished. I really enjoyed the percoset, but was able to put it away by day 6. On day five I walked the mall with my mom and son, and really that's the day I felt like things turned around. Good luck!!!! -Kendra

    Feeling full?

I was sleeved on 12/17 and feel I am doing well- I also have been weighing myself at least once a day- this morning the scale hadn't moved since yesterday morning, but from what I have read rhat is pretty normal. As for feeling full, I had the same question and I got some great advice from seasoned sleevers- the "fullness" feeling doesn't so much come into play until we start solids in a week or so. So I'd say you are doing great, keep up the good work!!! -Kendra Started: 302 Surgery: 272 (12/17) This morning: 259
  9. I totally get you & understand where you're coming from & why you feel the way you do- completely entitled. It's not so much your post, but others who were beyond mean just for the sake of it and then mocking the OP when she didn't respond. I wouldn't either...
  10. I really agree. I am a little scared now- I just joined about two weeks ago. I had no idea people would react this way to someone asking for help. I suppose those are the people who have never made a mistake in their lives. Lucky them.
  11. I would say that in the grand scheme of things, and in the long run, these moments of weakness won't matter AS LONG AS YOU NIP IT IN THE BUD now. Believe me, I am on day 10 of the post-op full liquid diet, and I also watched my family eat lots of good food, so I know how you feel. OK, I did eat two small teaspoons of speadable cheese and an equally small bite of mashed potatoes. Not all in one day, but still. I'm not perfect. I have to ask how in the world you tolerated popcorn? That is crazy.... -Kendra
  12. It also depends for me- Water or watery things go down fine, no discomfort, but the shakes, the cream Soups, and the greek yogurt sometimes I have that stuffed feeling after about 4-6 ounces. I was also worryng about "stretching it out" because I wasn't feeling much discomfort with liquids. That discomfort will come with our "real food" I think.... -Kendra

    Chicken Hummus Salad

This comes from the she-fit website- I am still on the seemingly endless full liquid nightmare, but OMG this looks so good. I bet it would marvelous even minus the veggies and can you imagine the Protein in this? Can't wait to try it! 2 Cups Shredded Lettuce 4 oz Diced chicken 1 Tablespoon Hummus (Flavor of your choice) 4 Tablespoons Salsa 1 Tablespoon chopped Celery 1 Tablespoon chopped Green Onions 1 Tablespoon chopped Bell Pepper 4 slices Cucumber Directions: 1.) In a large bowl, stir hummus, salsa, cucumbers, celery, green onions, and bell pepper 2.) Add Grilled Chicken to hummus mixture 3.) Place over bed of lettuce When taking to work, be sure to place chicken and hummus mixture in a small container and store lettuce in a separate zip lock bag to keep salad crisp and fresh. -Kendra
  14. I lost a total of 30- 302 down to 272 surgery weight. Honestly, all I really did was stop eating out, literally. We were really broke over the last 6 months, so it was easy. I was also extremely busy- I work and go to school full time and I have an active 8 year old and a husband- I just wasn't as much focused on food. I am really glad I didn't have to do the liquid pre-op. I'm on the full liquid post-op and I am getting SO sick of it. Good luck! -Kendra Starting weight: 302 Surgery weight: 272 Weight this morning: 259
  15. OMG I love that cereal! I was eating it pre-op and was hoping to be able to have it again in a few weeks/months. My NUT told me to look for things that are <5 g sugar, but really, if you mostly restrict your sugar anyway, what's an extra 2g? And thats if you eat the whole serving. I'd say we're good. Edited: total carbs are 19. I still have 1/2 box in my cupboard. I'm not planning on counting carbs, per se, just keeping my diet low-sugar. -Kendra Starting weight: 302 Weight this morning: 259 Sleeved 12/17/12

Day 13: What are you eating?

I am 9 days out- like BananaPants- sleeved on Dec 17. I am eating 1 1/2 Protein shakes, 1/2 cup greek yogurt flavored with SF blackberry jam & splenda, & about 6 ounces of cream soup, along with about 32 oz of flavored Water per day, spaced out. I also throw in a SF popcicle sometimes. I SOOOO can't wait to try real food next week. -Kendra
  17. I am 9 days post-op (sleeved 12/17) and feel like I am doing fine, however, I am having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that I will not feel full like I did before the surgery. No one at my surgeon's office said anything about this to me pre-op. I just still don't know when I'm full, at least I don't think so. I am still in the full liquid phase, so that might have something to do with it, since liquids obviously "slide through" faster than will solid food. Is the full feeling more of an issue when you start solids? I just don't know what to expect...LOL -Kendra starting weight: 302 surgery weight: 272 today's weight: 260

    I smell funny

I agree. My breath unfortunately smells bad. I'm constantly brushing my teeth like it helps. LOL It's an unfortunate side effect.

    Sleeping on tummy?

I am 9 days post-op and I can sleep in any position just fine- LOVE sleeping on my tummy hugging my pillow LOL!
  20. A week ago I was in your shoes- 8 days out I feel 99% normal physically. It will get better- good luck! -Kendra
  21. Hey there- Doing fairly well. I honestly can't believe a week ago I was in my hospital room wondering what the heck did I do? The pain is almost non-existent now and I really feel almost back to normal physically. I usually eat 2-3 Protein shakes a day, some cream soup, pudding, and greek yogurt. I can't always get all of it down, though, especially the shakes. Today I bought myself some sugar-free italian ices to enjoy. I have lost about 9-10 pounds so far- down to 262 from 272 on surgery day. I am feeling good so far but so ready to go into the next phase! -Kendra

    3 days Post-Op. Still sore!

I had mine done on Monday the 17th, so I am 6 days post-op. I can only say that yesterday (day 5) was my turning point- the pain susbsided substantially. It has been made much easier to deal with by taking a little percoset from time to time. Seriously, not being a pill-popper, I had no idea the magic of pain meds! LOL Good luck, sounds like you're doing fantastic!
  23. I agree- as for the regular food my family is eating- it smells really good to me, and they have been eating whatever they desire, I don't have the desire to grab it and devour it. The neighbors brought us this beautiful tray of christmas cookies, and they look just so delicious, but again, no desire to hork them down, despite my dislike of the shakes.
