5 days post op and STARVING! Help!

I would run out of the house right now and buy some prilosec. You aren't hungry. It's acid reflux. There ought to be a law against Drs discharging people without a PPI. -Kendra

A few days from 1 year out!

Amazing job! I love reading success stories! -Kendra

    Bananas?

I always add banana to my shakes, but I am 3 months out.
  4. I am just an "average" loser so far, I think, and feeling like I'm slower lately. I'm in the midst of trying to break a stall, too. My ticker is a little misleading. I am including the weight I lost pre-op as well as post-op. I promise, I have "only" lost 49 lbs in 3 months. When the scale says something other than what I would like it to, I try to think more about how I feel as compared to a year ago. I can move so much better. I am comfortable STANDING for long periods of time. I look in the mirror, and I actually look "normal". Chubby, of course, but "normal". I am essentially the weight I was when I got married 10 1/2 years ago. I have endurance at the gym that I could only dream about a year ago. I don't avoid mirrors anymore, or pictures. No more sleep apnea. I can cross my legs comfortably. This list is all NSVs- it just makes me feel better when the scale is being uncooperative. You have done a fantabulous job! It may slow down, and probably will, but wow, look at what you have accomplished other than the number on the scale! Good luck!!!! -Kendra
  5. Either you misheard her or she misspoke. Your BMI is on the low side compared to most other sleeve patients. I am also 5'5 and at my highest I was 302- date of surgery 272. I kind of consider myself to be very average when I compare my pre-op weight to other sleevers. Yes, you may lose slower, but you have less to lose. -Kendra
  6. I also never was informed of anything they found or lack thereof regarding my liver biopsy, and I am over 3 months out. I did see a pathology bill, though, so I know it got sent. He did say that he wasnt anticipating my liver to be all that bad, since I am still somewhat young (39 at the time of sugery) and that I had lost 23 lbs pre-op. -Kendra
  7. I had one. My doctor does one on everyone. It has to do with determining the extent of fatty liver. He told me that in 20 years the number one cause of cirrosis (sp?) of the liver will be fatty liver due to obesity, not alcohol or hepatitis. We ALL had a fatty enlarged liver due to our obesity, but like the rest of our bodies, livers can lose weight. That's the reason for the pre-op diet. Hope that helps ease your mind. -Kendra

    Negative Boyfriend

OMG, you look great! You should have dumped him a long time ago, I think. The text he sent you is unreal. Definitely show him the curb! Keep us updated! -Kendra
  9. I was going to say somewhat similar to the previous advice. You have a built-in "diet pill". Taking an actual diet pill makes no sense. -Kendra
  10. I also gave up both my BP meds and Metformin after surgery- really it was because I am uninsured and didn't have a prescription. I will have insurance, fortunately, by May 1, so will probably have some bloodwork done then (my six month post-op is not until June). I don't check my sugars (I didn't before surgery), but my B/P at my 3 month post-op was elevated- not like it was but still a little on the high side. Looks like I will at least be on B/P meds here in a few weeks, despite losing 80 lbs. I can relate! -Kendra
  11. I am a little over 3 months out and still doing this. Old habits are hard to break. Occasionally I get nauseated and dry heave due to my eating speed. You would think that would stop me. I think it's all about the "mindful eating" thing. I am a work in progress, I guess! -Kendra
  12. Watch out- in a few minutes someone will come on here telling you you had a bad attitude when you were big and that's why the deer always ran away from you. -Kendra

    Gallbladder stone

Probably not- they will probably take out your gall bladder during your sleeve surgery. That's what they did with me. Believe me, I am so glad they did. Saved me from having to go through a second surgery later. -Kendra

    I need smoking help

OMFG. You are NOT ready for this surgery!

    What's for dinner tonight?

3 months out- yesterday was my sleeviversary. I had about 3 ounces of chicken teriyaki- chicken breast chunks cooked in the wok with a little bit of oil and Kikkoman bottled teriyaki sauce. My family also had noodles and egg rolls. I abstained from those. ))) -Kendra

    Steri-strips. Heeelp!

The NP @ my 2 week appointment took them off of me. I was kind of wishing she hadn't at the time- my incisions were not fun to look at. They weren't infected or anything- just looked ugly and painful. Especially the ones that looked more like "holes". Yuck! She wanted me to keep them covered with gauze most of the time, but I kept them uncovered at all times- they healed fine. -Kendra
  17. Trying to break a stall by forcing myself to get in 1200 calories. It's harder than it sounds. I feel like I'm constantly eating. It's all pretty healthy, and I'm measuring and logging it all on MFP. Tomorrow back to my "regular" eating plan of around 800-900 calories, then Friday another 1200 calories day, Saturday "regular", weigh in on Sunday. Wish me luck!!! P.S. It just sounds weird that 1200 calories is "pigging out". Never thought that would be the case in my pre-op life. -Kendra

    Slow weight loss!

Over 1 lb a day is slow? Since when? It's not slow. Relax. Isn't 8 kg almost 18 lbs???? If you are freaking out over this now, you may be in for a world of disappointment. It doesn't get much better than this. -Kendra
  19. I agree with vogue- I don't understand the connection but congrats on your new tummy! It means you've really "arrived"! -Kendra

    So discouraged...

TO BE CLEAR, I'm only suggesting really limiting carbs as a KICK START if you're expriencing a stall and you're upset about it. I promise. If I do end up doing the Atkins-like thing, it'll only be temporary. I'm not a carb-nazi- far from it. Isn't the diet at first supposed to be Protein first anyway? The OP is only 7 weeks out.

    So discouraged...

You didn't really mention what you are eating. I am in a bit of a stall as well- I am losing but like MAYBE a pound last week. Not enough. This week I am adding calories to see if that makes a difference. I am also planning on the Atkins induction 2 week phase if that doesn't work. I guess what I'm asking is are you really watching carbs? I used to be completely anti-Atkins BUT now I have educated myself about it and it makes so much sense. I do limit carbs but not severely. -Kendra

    Almost only overweight...

That's so great! I can't wait to be just overweight. It sounds silly. LOL I am no longer morbidly obese but "severely overweight", and I couldn't be happier. Ha ha! -Kendra

    MY experience

Reading stuff like this makes me glad I paid so much more but had my surgery in the States 45 minutes from my house. I am really considering plastics when all is said and done- was considering Mexico for that but now- um, don't think so. -Kendra

    Grieving about forever

Kirk is 100% right. If you look at any food like you "won't be able to have it again" you're setting yourself up for defeat and deprivation. Nothing is off limits for me either. I just choose the healthy option 99% of the time. -Kendra

    Weight lost attention

Wow. Thanks for making judgments about people you know nothing about. I never would have guessed that my bad attitude was why people treated me like I was invisible if you, a total stranger, had not pointed that out.
