  1. Had a really shitty week - stated off well by losing 7 lbs in a week. Then heard my stepmother died after a 4 week battle. Finally finished off by my ex-wife falling off a chair last night putting up decorations & begging me to take her to the hospital.

so, I had a few drinks tonight ...... well, it turned into more than a bottle of wine ..... my doc advised me 12 months before having alcohol. I'm 6 months post-op

  2. I've had a couple of those, not fun.

As previous stated, it's all part of learning your new way of life. It's happened to me twice in 6 months. I've had another couple of close calls & I still occasionally overeat, but not to the point of being sick, just to the point of feeling uncomfortable.

I'm pretty sure that a year or so post-op, I won't have these problems. But, right now, i'm still finding my way & am not fully familiar with all the diffrent food types. The way I look at it, I've got to forget about the past 43 years of eating & learn it all again.

i have always had a strange habit with food, even my mother has teased me about this in the past. When I have a plate of food in front of me, I mentally 'grade' the food. Then I eat in reverse order, saving the best until last.

I've done that since I was a very small child. But now, I have to force myself to do the reverse in case I get full & have no room left for the 'best' food. In fact, this habit may have even been contributory to my weight problem.

  3. I didn't just plan my last meal, I planned my last meals .....

    Burger King

    Indian takeaway

    Chinese takeaway

    Dominos pizza

    Kebab

& finally my home cooked full English Breakfast (and believe me, it was a FULL one).

And before I had any of them, I got the letter from the hospital with my surgery date & instructions to start my pre-op diet immediately. So, I didn't get to have any of them.

    Ahh well, that's life.

  4. Well, I'm sure everyone is different, but my personal experience;

Pre-op I was suffering from depression. As I was unemployed, I had no reason to go out & I very rarely did. I cut myself off from the few friends I had. For me to leave the house once a week (to drive to my ex-wifes house to pick up my kids) was about normal.

Since the operation, I am out all of the time. I walk at least 3.5 miles a day (I do 5 small walks rather than 1 big one). I cycle 5 miles a day. I visit the gym 3 times a week. Socially, I don't avoid people any more, so that side of things has greatly improved for me.

Romatically is a different story. I've been single now for over 2 years. Maybe that'll change, maybe it won't.

  5. Hi there. I've just found this site & I thought I'd introduce myself.

My name is Alex, I'm 43 & come from Staffordshire in England. I've had a weight problem since I was 19-20 that has steadily got worse. After trying different ways of losing weight & prompting by my GP & the nurse that runs the Obesity Clinic at the GPs surgery I was referred for bariatic surgery.

I has my VSG surgery on the 21st May this year at Walsall Manor Hospital & so far things have being going pretty good.

When I was accepted for surgery on 23rd March this year, I weighed 38 stone & 6 pounds (538 pounds).

At my weekly weigh-in yesterday, I was down to 21 stone & 7 pounds (301 pounds).

    (I'm 6' 4" tall BTW).

I'm still a little way off my ultimate target weight but I'm getting close & estimate I should hit it in Feb.

    So, hi to you all!
