  1. All those drinks are too sweet for me. I’m going to have to make my own shakes.

I’m 10 days out and I can’t stand the taste! I’m drinking the Protein cappuccinos to replace those shakes. Been staying with my mom, so when I get home, I’ll be making my own.

To my surprise, I still have energy. I’ve lost over 20lbs since surgery and I figured I’d be hallucinating by now... lol!

  2. I had my surgery on 10/14. Pre-op weight was 239. The pumped me full of fluids and on 10/15, I weighed 249.

Went for post op and weighed in at 228. They just put me on purées. I was struggling with having BM and I was in excruciating pain. I was finally Abe to resolve issue and my recovery is so much better. I weighed in today @226. So... I’d say that I am losing thus far. I want to get back to my lowest weight of 165. I’m sure this loss will slow down soon, but I am currently pleased with the steady loss right now!

  3. Truth be told.... I may have gone a different direction if my insurance hadn’t pay. Just not sure. My issue also dealt with horrible acid reflux and it affected my quality of life. I ate high fat comforting foods because it kept the reflux at bay. Has I not had this issue, I may have been more of a success story.

The second time around.... I’m definitely not gonna take this for granted. I’m also going to focus on my health Holistically: mind, body and spirit. They go hand in hand.

They put an Abdominal binder on me while I was in the hospital and I came home with it on. It really helped support my incisions. I’m six days post op and took it off at day four. I’d definitely recommend one if your incisions are painful. Check with your doctor first though 😊

Omg!!! I went out today and bought one from the medmart! It is a lifesaver! I was literally crying because of the pain. I’m really surprised my doctor didn’t give me one of these things. I’ve been walking around carrying my spare tire... lol!

  5. I found that I got bored quickly. It was easy for me to make excuses as to why I didn’t go to the gym or why I chose to eat cheesecake at 10pm at night. I recognized that I was depressed.

We all know what we are supposed to do and yet we choose to do the opposite? Once I recognized my depression, I made the decision to work on it. I also stepped out of what I normally did and tried something new, in terms of exercise.

I scoffed at the expense of doing Pilates, but I tried it for a week. I got a pass for $20 and I vowed that if I showed up at least 3 times a week, then I would sign up! I went 5 times. It was so relaxing. It was in a small setting( COVID conscious) and I felt very accomplished after each class. It surprised me. I was getting stronger every class, my anxiety about the pandemic went away, I began drinking more Water and I started making smarter choices with my eating. I noticed a difference almost immediately.

That one act created a domino effect. Just say to yourself, “I’m going to walk/climb stairs for 15 minutes 3 times a week” see where that takes you.

Do a sleeve reset. Do one thing for yourself and see if it’s a catalyst to getting back on track.

I ended up having surgery to convert from a sleeve to bypass. I had horrible Gerd and I decided I wasn’t going to live on ppis for the rest of my life. I just had surgery last week and the struggle is real. But I look forward to getting back into the Pilates studio and I haven’t experienced GERD at all.

I have faith that you can find that one thing to get you back in track! I’m rooting for you! Good luck and be well!

  6. I am so over drinking broth. I’m going out of my mind! My left side incision is so painful.... at times I want to cry! I’m on day 5 post op gsv to Rny bypass conversion. I’ve never experienced pain like this. I was so cavalier about my recovery and I’m thankful my mother was able to help me, otherwise I don’t know what I would’ve done.

Has anyone tried a post surgery girdle/band? I feel like I need one of those to help with gravity and the incision pain! I’m about to run out of pain medicine and in my life, I’ve never gone past 2 days with medicine. Please tell me it gets better?

I was an October 14 sleever but my A1C was too high but now I’m back on schedule for Oct 27 🙌🏽

Well, that’s not too far away. When they scheduled me back in August for October, I thought it was an eternity away. I could’ve used a few more days... lol! Time crept up fast! Good luck!

  8. Just had my surgery and last night was a rough one. The pain was terrible. Surprisingly, I had no gas pain... yet. They’re telling me that I’m doing well. I switched from a bed to a chair and it has helped. I have re-evaluated my home care and will be sleeping upright in a chair to help with mobility. Hopefully, I’ll feel more normal in a few days. Very excited about the future.

I hope everyone is doing well!

Btw, I had conversion surgery. Went from vsg to bypass.

  9. Ugh! People are going to do what they want do even if they're advised not to. There was a question on the table and it comes with varied answers from smokers and non smokers, both sides equally passionate. I have lost loved ones to cancer, as well. Non smokers, like myself, are just as equally affected by those who smoke. Just as you feel you shouldn't be judged, we feel the same. Walk in our shoes! I actually have allergies that are exacerbated by smoke and the ashes from smoke. I care about my health and I don't want to be around it! Period! You, as smokers, want to compromise your health, more power to you! When you encroach on my breathing space, I have a problem. It is a big deal, to me! And just as you have the right to smoke, I have the right to not have to be around it or subjected to it! Don't get mad when someone finger wags and tells you smoking is bad. It's the truth! And sometimes, the truth hurts!

We all know the affects of smoking and the risks of smoking. Some chose to take those risks. In doing so, you have no one to blame but yourself should the outcome not be a positive one. Gastric sleeve surgery is very serious and does, in fact, require a major lifestyle change. Yes, we improve our appearance, our self esteem, but it also cures some ailments such as diabetes, lowers blood pressure and heart related issues. It would be a shame to reduce your quality of life by continuing to smoke, a habit that you know may have consequences. Why risk it?

Anyway! The choice is always yours. We are all giving you something to think about. Whether you choose to listen is completely up to you. You have to live with your choices, we don't. I wish everyone the best and good luck!

  10. I agree. You still have this tool. It's not broken. I'm like you. I have a broken leg I'm still nursing. I went through this whole process in a cast. Now I'm in a boot. I'm still far from being able to exercise. I have to rely solely on diet, as do you. You can do it! It's never too late! Sending you positive energy! :)

  11. I've had no problems with alleve. Of course, I only took it when needed during that first week. My mom, who has MS, and was sleeved last week took it and had no problems. It really helped. Sleeve patients can continue use of NSAIDs AFTER surgery... Bypass patients can't. All NSAIDs cause problems with the stomach over time, which is why alleve is better than ibuprofen( same dosage, longer effectiveness). I suppose it differs from patient to patient, especially if you have acid reflux. I have a high threshold for pain, and stopped taking the pain medicine on day two. The gas pain was horrible and alleve... once a day for 3 days following helped tremendously. I also had acid reflux and Zantac helped for that. If your doctor told you no NSAIDs then I would follow their instructions. My doctor told me it was fine, told my mother it was fine and we both were glad we were able to! My gas pain was definitely lessened when we did. It's best to check with your doctor. Good luck, I hope you feel better.

  12. I like this too! I'm turning 40 this year and just want to get to my goal weight by then! I'm nursing a broken leg, so I'd liked to be healed up before attempting any exercise feat! So, by the end of August, I'd like to weigh 165lbs. That's a huge feat since I have 75lbs to go to get there, but I'll at least try! Any loss is a true success! Good luck, all!
