    All In August 2014!

That's a really good idea! Last time the night before surgery I took a Xanax at about 8pm and it helped me relax and fall asleep so that I could have a good nights sleep. It really helps because you don't get to sleep very well in the hospital and it just relieves all the night before jitters for me. My doc had no problem with me taking it but I'm sure something like Benedryl would have the same effect. I should feel up to getting on and letting you guys know how everything went on either Friday night or Saturday morning, I'm not letting any of my family visit me until Saturday except my mom who is staying the whole time and my fiance who will be there every second he isn't working. Last time I was pretty out of it all day the day of and didn't even really remember having my visitors there so I figured it's best to just wait until I'm feeling a little better to have more guests. The cleaning was actually helpful for me, it kept my mind occupied and I knew it would help me out post-op. My family will help a lot too after surgery but I wanted to get everything that I could done so they have less work. I've been on clears since yesterday so am just doing a lot of reading and talking on here since I'm a little weak/tired from not eating. Getting lost in my book and not thinking about surgery is also beneficial. I'm not super nervous but it's nice to have something else to think about. At this point it's in my surgeon's hands, I picked a very good and experienced surgeon and I have to trust him to do his job so am trying not to worry too much. I'll talk to you guys more on Friday!

    All In August 2014!

Only two days left for me..Friday is the big day! I'm a little nervous but more excited, I'm finishing up my last shopping and cleaning, I'm packing a bag tonight and everything is pretty much done. I've splurged a little and bought a NutriBullet and a FitBit for after surgery and I love them both, well worth the money my house is perfect, everything is organized and my family is up to speed and ready to help me when I need anything in the beginning. I'm a revision so I'll be in the hospital for a minimum of 2 nights and may be there a little longer depending on recovery, they are also a little worried that it will have to be open because of the damage to my esophagus but won't know until they get in there. Positive thoughts and prayers for laproscopic would be greatly appreciated on Friday, I have to start classes on August 22nd so hopefully my recovery will go smoothly! I'll keep everyone updated and let you guys know how I'm feeling so hopefully you will know what to expect when you have surgery!

    Feeling Relieved

I'm so happy for you, I have surgery on Friday and I hope my recovery goes that well! I'm a revision from a sleeve after complications and my sleeve recovery was great (beyond the major complications) so I'm hoping I'll get lucky again and have another easy recovery. Keep us updated, I'm hoping you stay feeling this good but we are here for you if you hit a speed bump

    Blender

The NutriBullet has no problem with ice, it only takes about 30 seconds to crush it all and mix everything together. For me, ice helps in the clear phase otherwise it feels like you are drinking chocolate Water which just doesn't do it for me...the ice makes it a little thicker and cold which is very very helpful. I see no reason why you can't puree foods in the blender, it can chop up most seeds and nuts so as long as you don't fill it past the max line it should be fine. I also don't think it's an issue to put your cup in the fridge for later unless you have a lot of ice in there because it may melt. You don't have to fill the cups all the way up either, they work just fine being half or even a quarter full so are very versatile IMO.

    Blender

YES! I have the NutriBullet Pro, it's a little more but a great investment and includes an extra huge cup. I love it, I'm on clears so when you mix ice with the Protein and Water it tastes more like a shake and is easier to tolerate. It takes 30 seconds to crush all of my ice and mix my shake and cleanup is a breeze. It's well worth the money and you will use it for years after surgery, a lot of folks have a Protein Shake with fruit in the morning to give them a boost and get some protein in for the day so it's great for pre-op, post-op and maintenance. Also if you get it from Bed, Bath & Beyond you can usually find a 20% off coupon or Kohls often gives great discounts and you can use Kohls cash. I bought mine from Kohls and with tax it was $100 total and it's very high quality with the better motor which will make it last a lot longer. If you can afford it, I say go for it!

    Chewable Vitamins - HELP!

In the future pills will be an option but you have plenty of options now. A lot of Vitamins come in liquid form, a new thing is out from both Bariatric Advantage and Celebrate Vitamins, it's a powder that you put in your drink like crystal light and has your Multivitamin and your Calcium, some even have Protein in them and you can get samples from both places. At Celebrate, samples cost $3 with free shipping and you can send them an email requesting specific items and at Bariatric Advantage they are free, you just have to ask for them. I personally like the vitamins from Celebrate and that's what I take..they are a little chalky but don't bother me. In your samples they should have the chewable kind as well so you can see if you are able to tolerate a different brand. The new drink mix is cool though because from two drinks you get everything you need except Iron and B complex if your doc requires it which only comes in a pill. Good luck!
  12. You are welcome guys I was scared to order something without trying it and from my previous surgery I already know that I like and tolerate Celebrate very well so decided to stick with what I know..I may try the package from Nasobal later on in my recovery though. If either of you get it, let me know what you think!
  13. In my nutrition class we were offered the choice of buying all of our vitamins from Nasobal, they make the B12 nasal spray but also make chewable vitamins and they are covered by some insurance plans making the out of pocket cost lower that most other places. It may be something to look into or talk to your doctor/nutritionist about, I have no idea about ingredients though so you would have to make sure it worked for you.

    Need AUGUST bypass buddies!

I start my pre-op tomorrow for surgery on Friday and I have decided that I'm going to eat steak..I haven't had it since my sleeve in 2012 (can't eat anything solid) and there is a chance that you may never tolerate red meat after the bypass so I'm going to have two bites and prepare my pain medicine. Hopefully I don't die, it will be really soft steak and by gosh I'm going to do it in case I can never have it again. Tomorrow it begins, I'm already having weird dreams about it..tis going to be a long week but I'll manage

Any good ideas for taking my iron pill?

I second this but want to add that most people do not realize that they are iron deficient unless they get tested regularly so it's always a good idea to keep up with your annual blood work because your levels can change throughout your life.

Any good ideas for taking my iron pill?

Sometimes it helps to take it at night but if it's low I definitely wouldn't rely on your multi to give you what you need. Most people eventually need to supplement iron after surgery so I would just try to get a pattern going and try your best to get used to it because you will likely need it for the rest of your life. I prefer chewable and use Celebrate's grape and have zero problems. I'd ask around on Bariatric Advantage and Celebrate's website because lots of times they will send you free samples of their bariatric vitamins (including iron) totally free then you can see if either brand is easier to tolerate. Good luck!!

    Help with stages

We also don't know what surgery you had and recommendations can be different not only per doctor but per surgery and then of course greatly revolves around how you are healing individually.
  18. I agree, I've heard such bad things about Flinestones but so so many people take them. There is a reason bariatric vitamins are made the crazy thing is some people are 100% fine taking them and have great lab work then someone else is deficient on 3-4 things so IMO it's a better idea to just take the complete ones, take your iron (even though I know you all hate it), take your vitamin D and take your calcium..just do it..you got this surgery knowing you would have to take vitamins for the rest of your life so it kinda baffles me when people just stop taking them..you can't just stop eating small portions it's not your choice to make anymore. Sorry, I have vitamin rants often with bypass patients in clinic because people seem to "forget" after they lose the weight but you permanently altered your body for forever so take your gosh darn vitamins!!
  19. Where can I purchase them ? Celebrate's website is: www.celebratevitamins.com If you go on Bariatric Advantage's website and ask them for a free sample they send one of each of their popular vitamins for free!! I despise their multi though but I've heard others say that they love it so definitely worth a shot! Good luck

    Bad Omen :(

Yes, thank you all..I'll find another doctor that I like hopefully soon! I'm so nervous but I keep chanting that I'll be fine...this is kind of a sucky outlook and I'm seriously knocking on some wood but at this point for me specifically I'm not sure there is any way to go but up because it can't get a lot worse than what it is now right? I'm not even letting you guys answer that..it can only get better because there is no going backwards! We will all be fine..I very much like that word
  21. Yes, fine that's what I keep telling myself. Everything will be fine, I am fine and I will be fine for the rest of this week and I will be fine on the day of surgery and then afterwards I'll be fine. Hopefully soon we will be better than fine but until then fine is fine
  22. Beckyyb93

    Need AUGUST bypass buddies!

YES! Most definitely you should do this before and after surgery..it helps with hunger and it allows you to get your needed Protein in post-op when your tummy is too small to have it all at once.
  23. Please please please think about this very very hard...I had severe GERD going into the sleeve in 2012 and now two years later I haven't had solid food since surgery, I take the liquid Vicodin to eat or drink anything soft because my esophagus is so eroded due to the acid that intensified x100 with the sleeve that they are discussing esophageal cancer with me at 21! Next week I'm revising to the bypass praying that it will stop the acid and let me start living my life again. There are many cases on here where you will find someone with severe GERD got the sleeve and have revised to the bypass in fact it's becoming legally necessary for surgeons to advise patients to go with the bypass because of the horrible reflux associated with the sleeve. I may be biased but I wish I would have never gotten the sleeve and went straight for the bypass or not had WLS at all, anything is better than the constant pain I'm in now. I hope you and your doctor make the right decision for your health!
  24. Mine is too and as you know I'm right behind you on Friday.

    Protein shake blues

I'd suggest getting some samples..Vitalady has samples of like 40+ Protein shakes for $2.99 each with $5 shipping. I just ordered 10 different flavors to try post-op and then figured I'd buy more of whatever I like. This is my second WLS so I already have a few favorite staples for right after surgery. My favorites are nectar chocolate, vanilla, Cookies and cream, and Cappuccino. I also like BSN lean Desserts banana pudding..it tastes just like banana pudding and is especially good with almond milk. The samples page for Vitalady is: http://www.vitalady.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&keywords=protsamp&SortKey=sku&SortOrder=ascending Also, I hate all of Isopure premades..they have this awful aftertaste...I do better with the sweeter ones.
