    Protein

I googled Big Train and ordered off their site. nectar you and google and find the best place to order. I think I ordered some multi packs off of Bariatric Advantage. I do about 40 gms of my Protein with RTDs. I struggle with powders. Big Train is the only one I really can tolerate. Also one more powder thats not too bad, Jay Robb's brand. Vitamin World sells individual packs for you to sample....so does Whole Foods if you have one in your area. 3. I do the muscle milk RTD and Isopure RTD. As a matter of fact I had my first alcohol drink with 1oz vodka and 10 oz Isopure as the chaser....my tolerance for alcohol is awful....but I got 20 gms of Protein in while sipping! 7. You are so welcome. This forum has been great...I read it preop faithfully and asked a lot of questions. I felt very knowledgable before I went thru this process. I see this referenced on some threads but no explanation. Can someone share? Sent from my iPad: Sleeved 4/24/2013 by Dr. Farrell @ UNC Hospital---Started: 239lbs--Goal: 150lbs--Current: 200.9 lbs
  9. Yummy but casein Protein vs whey isolate. Anyone know the disadvantage to casein vs whey isolate. They are so good! Almost too good to be true...especially if you are a coffee drinker. 12. Wow....I hate he has stopped doing the sleeve. I wonder why. I asked Dr. Farrell about the preop diet and he told me he would only request that if I had an extremely high BMI. I was at 40. I however started eating one low carb meal a day and for my other meals Protein shakes two weeks preop. That was to wean me off sugar and get me ready for new eating habits. I was an impatient for two days. I couldn't pee post op....only cause I think they d/c'd my IV fluids too soon and my intake was not sufficient due to the dietary restriction. So they hooked me back up to fluids and I finally went. I was home for 4 weeks but I have a job that they let me work from home for two of them. I have to admit....I needed that to adjust to the diet and manage my incision pain the first few weeks. I did well the first two weeks other than pain and the struggle to get the protein and Fluid requirements in. In my 3rd week my reflux came back with vengeance. I had nausea and vomiting so they scoped me the 4th week but everything looked good. They doubled my reflux meds and I have been fine since. I have lost 39 lbs and hit my first stall last week. I got sleeved on 4/24. It's not been to bad....but it is an adjustment! Sent from my iPad: Sleeved 4/24/2013 by Dr. Farrell @ UNC Hospital---Started: 239lbs--Goal: 150lbs--Current: 200.9 lbs
  13. Hi there...I initially started out to see Overby. But due to scheduling conflicts ended up having Dr Farrell to do my surgery. Things went fine I really enjoyed working with their practice nurse Lisa. She was very helpful with my care at UNC Hospitals. The discharge did not go as smooth as I had hoped the coordination was a little slow but managable. The nurses on the floor were really great to work with. They assigned student nurses to work with me which was nice and they were very attentive. The surgical resident team assign to work with me were great. All women! I loved it! I only saw Dr Farrell a couple of times while I was in the hospital. My only issue with the practice is they do not provide enough nutritional follow up and support. I feel like I have to reach out to them for that information but they are very responsive when I call. Lisa the nurse practitioner usually calls back within hours or at least by the next day with instructions. The follow up is good. I had really bad reflux after surgery anf they sent me for more testing. All in all I have been pleased and will see Dr. Farrell in a few weeks for my next follow up. He is so sweet and gentle! I love his spirit!
  14. my surgery was the same day and I have finally hit the dreaded stall! Just thinking this to shall pass. My surgeon told me I would be down 40 when I see him July 15th. I am one lb short of that....so I am hoping I he is right. Sent from my iPad: Sleeved 4/24/2013 by Dr. Farrell @ UNC Hospital---Started: 239lbs--Goal: 150lbs--Current: 200.9 lbs
  15. Hi, I was sleeved on April 24th and I am down 39 lbs. I am on soft foods now...still trying to learn to eat slowly...that has been a challenge. I have tried bread twice and can't tolerate it yet. I still only get about 60gms of Protein a day...feeling great right now. My energy level has greatly improved. Reflux is resolving ....finally! All in all I am doing well. Sent from my iPad: Sleeved 4/24/2013 by Dr. Farrell @ UNC Hospital---Started: 239lbs--Goal: 150lbs--Current: 202.2lbs

    Raleigh, Nc Sleevers?

Yep I worked at Duke for 10 years. Living near campus is expensive, but lots to do and I believe at your age you would enjoy all there is to do. Good luck! Sent from my iPad: Sleeved 4/24/2013 by Dr. Farrell @ UNC Hospital---Started: 239lbs--Goal: 150lbs--Current: 202.2lbs

    Raleigh, Nc Sleevers?

Hi there...let me jump in before people who don't live in Durham mislead you ( quite common among many with Wake county addresses), two of my buddies are cops Raleigh cops but live in Durham and they will be the first to tell you the crime in Raliegh is just as bad as it would be in Durham. Durham is smaller in comparison to Wake county. If you are looking for diversity let me tell you that Cary, Apex, Chatham county are NOT diverse as it relates to AA. Absolutely not! Those regions tout diversity due to their huge influx of Indian population due to our heavy focus of technology in the RTP area. As one poster mentioned you have to know where you are when you are in Durham...same with wake county...my neighbor was robbed by gun point pumping gas in a neighborhood in wake county....he did something stupid and punched the guy at the risk if his life and the guy started running. He chased him along with an undercover cop that was in the store of the station. Mind you my neighbor has lived in Durham for over 20 years and never had a gun pulled on him. So...if you choose to move to Durham, there are great areas to live. Unfortunately the Downtown area is booming now....and the cost to live there has escalated, the next location is the Southpoint mall area which is very close to RTP....I work in RTP takes me 15 easy minutes to get to work EVERYDAY. My co-workers who were told Durham was a bad place to live...who moved to the before mentioned other locations, complain everyday about 15 min drives that take them 45, let there be a weather event (ice is common) And it's worst....I just cruise home and Instead of 15 mins.....it takes me 30... Compared to 1-2 hours with bad winter weather. icy roads are tough to navigate even for transplant Northerns. Durham is a college town, home of Duke University....so if you move in that area which is not far from downtown....you will deal with that youthful group. Durham is a huge foodie town, were chain restaurants struggle because of the excellent culinary delights we have here. I promise you will not be disappointed.....even with my sleeve I can eat and lose...but the food I eat is good for you...we are a big farm to table town. There several other communities that are great in Durham....but not as close to RTP. Google Durham Visitors and conventions Bureau. That site has lots of links! Durham is the place of cool and diversity is embraced, but if you are looking for a homogenous place....where everything looks and feels the same, those other locations many be better for you. I caution you to get all the info you need....ignore the cry wolf, chicken little comments about crime here I have been here all my life and love my Town never had a crime issue! Just wanted to warn you some work in Durham...buts then travel back to their communities...they focus on the 20% and miss the best 80%....they don't really know Durham well. Some grew up and moved away...may know more....but I caution you on there advise too....why would you tear down your hometown....sad. Good luck, forgive my misspellings..hard to type on my Ipad without the keyboard attached. I think you need to intervene. It will be awful if you go much longer. I had an episode where it took me 10 days! I was very uncomfortable....and it was uncomfortable when it finally happened. 21. 7.5 weeks out, 37 lbs down and 2.5 lbs from onderland....this is f'ing awesome! I feel great...I walk faster, my confidence, is back, I can wear my size 16 jeans, my depression has lifted....the world feels brighter....I feel like I GOT THIS! My sexy is back as once again....I am snapping necks when I am out and about........got my mojo back! So....why did I in one day consume 1300 calories when in all the days prior, I could only get in 700! WTF! In my old life prior to my sleeve..,,this was my cycle....lose weight, get my mojo back, gain weight, get depressed, go in to hiding, shut the world out. I woke up this morning....acknowledged that the old self is still lurking and that alter ego has got to be control. I have to be on my game at all times....otherwise, she is coming back. I'm just saying.....she's being checked and called out. I ain't NEVER going back again. I used my fat self as my crutch for many things......now it's time to stand strong and work to be all I can be! What an amazing journey I have just embarked on.....I am running on to see what the end will be....so glad I took the chance....went through the pain....cause it made me stronger, wiser and more self aware! High five and two snaps.....I got this! Sent from my iPad: Sleeved 4/24/2013 by Dr. Farrell @ UNC Hospital---Started: 239lbs--Goal: 150lbs--Current: 203.5 lbs

    Who can eat everything?

I have tolerated everything accept really cheesy dishes at 7 weeks out. I am on soft foods now. I don't do Pasta or bread...but I had my first glass of wine at a dinner and could only drink a few sips cause I needed to eat my Protein. Had some bourbon last night....mistake cause I woke up feeling awful and dehydrated. So no more alcohol for me til I am a few more months out. My surgery

I too had issues with Protein shakes and reflux and nausea. I found the muscle milk RTDs and they have been a life saver. I like the chocolate flavor very cold and it does not make me nauseous.
