What are some of the comments you get?

The one that will forever be remember is "have you lost your f-ing mind?!?!! Why the f would you cut your stomach?!?! Are you crazy?!?!" My best friend was like "meh... Your body, your choice. I'm behind you in whatever you decide" My dad "..." My brother "you're a lazy ass. We can exercise together and you won't need that stupid surgery"

They had me a surprised intervention.

You may be eating too much in one sitting. Try measuring out everything and eating single portions. Like one string cheese and no egg.
  3. Hey Bobby! Congratulations on the decision to have surgery. My highest weight was 330 and on my surgery day I was at 305. Keep us posted on your progress and get ready for the ride of your life!

Tired of women leaving me for the "cute skinny guy"

This is an extremely rude assumption to make. it's people like you that make heavier people hate themselves and what they look like. Just remember that you are/were one of those fat ugly guys and if no woman wanted to date you, I think it was more a problem with you bro. Ultimately, you will find someone who cares about you as a person. If they are superficial, they were not worth your time anyways. As you begin to feel better about yourself, you'll start to put out a better vibe and you'll attract awesome women, both fat and skinny.

    I'm Afraid of Bread...

I'm 10 months post op and rarely eat bread, rice, pasta, or tortillas. If you're not comfortable eating that, don't push yourself, You don't have to eat that.

Can a relationship really work out if....

My other half has always been a skinny person, and I gained a bunch of weight eating junk like him. I'm 10 months post op. He still eats his mcdonalds and pizza, and I eat my chicken and tuna. He's not holding a gun to my head telling me to eat junk. If anything, I'll have one fry and he'll get on me about it. Since day one he has been my biggest supporter and cheerleader. As I now got into his jeans, he is very happy for me and my changes and though it's not for him, he never pressures me to eat the same as him. You can't expect the world to change just because you get WLS. You need to learn to be around everyone and everything. If it is a big problem, talk to him about it. If you want out of your marriage, the door is right there too as no one is forcing you to stay either.
  7. Hey! Stumbled over this thread again and wanted to see if any November 26th sleevers are still on here. It'd be nice to catch up with you guys!

    Pain in my legs.

Go to the hospital. Better to be safe than sorry. I've never had leg pain, but if it's really really a lot of pain, get it checked out

    What Was Your Starting Weight?

Highest weight: 330 Date of Surgery Weight: 305 Current Weight: 180 23 years old on surgery date, I'm 24 now I'm 5'4 Surgery date: 11/26/2012 My ultimate goal weight has always been 175 My surgeons goal weight was 200 lbs.
  10. And friends. I got a long lecture from one friend who was telling me, ARE YOU CRAZY?!?! YOURE GOING TO CUT OUT YOUR STOMACH TO LOSE WEIGHT?! HAVE YOU LOST YOUR F-ING MIND?! Surprisingly, my 2 closest friends at that time are the only ones who supported me. Coworkers and everyone else thought I was crazy.
  11. My dad thought I was crazy, and my siblings thought the same thing. My dad received a letter a week before my surgery from a funeral home and he thought it was an omen of bad things to come. But I had set my mind to the idea and that was it. I'm not so crazy anymore they see that I've changed a lot. I come from a family of HUGE portions. And so, it's hard for them to adjust to the 1/6-1/8 the size portion I eat now at family dinners. My dad still over serves me and gets awkward when I don't finish I wouldn't change it for the world though. I am a lot happier now than I have been in a long time and though I still have body image issues, and half the time my clothes don't fit me (which irritates me when I'm in a rush), it's pretty amazing to see how the sleeve has changed me for the better. I crave veggies and Protein instead of mcdonalds or milkshakes. Your family will get over it. Mine did

    how much damage....?

I'd say if you're wanting to pretend that you didn't have WLS, have tiny portions of all the goodies. At... 6/7 months out I went to a car show at the fair grounds. I have never had a deep fried Twinkie and had always wanted one. My friend wanted one too, so I bought one, had a nibble, and then he ate the rest. I've always been about portion control. Why deprive yourself, when you could have a small taste and be satisfied? If having a small bite would trigger you to go completely crazy and down a gallon of ice cream, then I wouldn't recommend it. If you can handle a little bite, go for it!

    Oatmeal?

It's too thick and lumpy, don't push yourself too much just yet
  14. SeriouslyChange

    Alcohol?

I got sh*t faced 7 weeks out by accident, it for sure hits you A LOT harder than you would imagine. If you're going to drink, try a small sip first, I also tried drinking a shot at 5 weeks and it burned waaaay too much. everyone has different opinions on alcohol
  15. SeriouslyChange

    Im freaking out

One of my constant phrases my first week post op was, I can't f-ing do this sh*t... My best friend saw me in the hospital a day after surgery and I said that to her. She told me, it's too late to change anything, it's already done, and it's not going to change back to how it was. Make the best out of the current situation instead of complaining. You're just going to stress yourself out and ain't no body got time for that... Lol, my bestie was really sweet. I still get sad when I'm so excited to try something and 3 bites and I'm done. But food doesn't dominate my life anymore. And that is the most important thing to me.

    Will the scale ever move?!?

Oh! And buy a tape measure and measure yourself. I thought it was hilarious that I wouldn't drop a pound, but my body was shrinking. You'd be surprised There's also an app, see me get fit, that can track your weight and you can attach photos to it.
  17. SeriouslyChange

    Will the scale ever move?!?

Are you using something like myfitnesspal to track calories? Seems to me like you're doing great. I tend to go crazy with Proteins, plain tuna is my quick lazy snack, grilled chicken is a staple lol. I'm very plain with food, so a couple ounces of chicken alone is a great meal to me. I don't eat much bread, rice, Pasta anymore either. And every once in a while I'll go veggie crazy, but I focus a lot on Protein. Try using myfitnesspal and weighing your food and counting your calories. Because you're early out, it's not like you're going to binge on like 10oz of protein in one sitting, but you'd be surprised how calories add up. How's your exercise? Water? Do you chew chew chew and not over stuff yourself? No judgement, just wondering is all. And don't worry about eating too much. Calorie wise, if they're small meals, it's fine. My coworkers joke all the time that I'm constantly "stuffing my face" but I'm more successful than they are about losing weight. They also know I've has surgery, so it's all in good fun

    Will the scale ever move?!?

You're being silly and dramatic... But seriously. Give us a sample of what you eat in a day. I had surgery at 305. So I feel your pain. I am proud to say that as much as I got depressed at first because I "wasn't losing fast enough" I have officially lost 120 pounds since surgery and it hasn't even been a year yet. So chill
  19. SeriouslyChange

    Sabotaged myself w smoking.

Perhaps you should look at what you fear comes with this surgery. I ate nothing but junk until it hit me one day that I wasn't doing myself any favors. That I have the opportunity to change my life but I was scared of change. Instead of having a date in July/August, my date was set for November 26. Just give it some thought as on a subconscious level, you may have a reason for sabotaging yourself.

    Fluid drinking after surgery.

You're only 1 week out. Give yourself some time. If you keep gaining by week 3, then talk to your doctor, but as long as you're following the guidelines, you'll be okay. I lost only 23 pounds by my 3rd week. Everyone is different. Don't come down on yourself for not losing fast as your body will lose as fast as it is comfortable.

    Fluid drinking after surgery.

You'll figure out what works best for you along the way. I tend to wait 30-60 minutes after, but I do drink if I need to.
