    Anyone living in Las Vegas

Hello ladies - my home town is Vegas but I'm out of town these next two weeks for work. I need a shopping and work out buddy too. I was sleeved in Dec.
  2. This is a major surgery with risks and it will be life changing. I think it's natural for the people that care about us to have cold feet. I know a few in my life that did. It doesn't mean they don't understand my struggle with weight or they don't love me. Just sit down with him. Discuss his concerns/questions. You have to remind him how important this is for your health and how much you need him to be your rock through the process.
  3. The holy month of Ramadan is just around the corner. For those of you that don't know - its Islamic month where Muslims fast from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset. For those of you that observe this month, how did you handle fasting your first year of being sleeved. I'm 6 months out and already have problems with my water/protein intake. I know people that are ill are exempt from the fasting part, but since I've been 12 years old I've been fasting each year.

    Shopping

Ohhh yes - start saving a "clothing fund" from now. The money saved on food gets spent on cloths. lol it's one of the top best things about the sleeve. Enjoy when it happens.

    NIKE Fuel Band Usernames

How do you like it? Was thinking about getting one.
  6. Mine has gotten much better - I'm 7 months out now. I used to take it a few times a day and now down to a few times a week. Greasy food makes it worse for me. So try and pin point what foods make cause it for you and try and eliminate from your diet.

    Beef Jerky

So I've stumbled upon these steak strips (extra thick cut) that I think are fantastic. Since surgery 7 months ago I've had trouble with Protein shakes. I rely on lean protein vs. shakes. These steak strips are high in protein and are helping me hit my daily goals. Like with any beef Jerky the sodium levels are high - so I have to keep track of it daily in comparison to other things I eat. Does anyone else use this as a snack/protein supplement?

    Beef Jerky

It's funny you said that - was looking on eBay for a dehydrator. I could do my own meats and fruits too :-).
  9. Hello Zephra, God bless you for supporting your husband and for working on the decision to become a Muslim. If you were NOT sleeved, I would say fasting is a duty on all healthy Muslim regardless of what season and what temperature. Believe me I know hottttt :-) - I live in Vegas and being outside in 120 heat while fasting is a serious matter. But than I remember the prophet (PBUH) used to go to war while fasting in the Arabian desert - or I think about the young children in Africa with no access to Water or food and that would push me to get through the day. However, you are sleeved. You already stand at a high risk of dehydration without even fasting. I also have trouble with getting all my water and Protein. I think you should check with your Dr first. Should he approve your fasting, take it one day at a time and one hour at a time. Listen to your body. If you feel that you're pushing the limits please break the fast. Remember "On no soul does God place a burden greater than it can bear." If this is your first year fasting, expect it to be a little harder at first, with time the fasting gets easier mentally and physically. But the rewards outweighs the struggles. I hope this helps! Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed Ramadan.

    Two Years Four Months

Sorry to hear you are going through these ulcers. I had them too, I didn't mind the pain as much as the constant need to vomit. At any rate, the drs gave me an antibiotic cocktail that I had to take for a few weeks. It sucks, cause antibiotics make me nauseous. But the regimen worked - my last endoscopy they did a biopsy and finally tested negative for it. Good luck!!
  11. I discussed with my surgeon and he said to go for it. He's had other Muslim patients that fast each year with no complications. I started my fasting today and was doing great up until about 5:00 pm. This sharp pain started in my stomach (not from the sleeve, I had my gallbladder removed about two weeks ago and occasionally I get these pains). I tried to take pain but eventually had to break my fast to take my pain meds. Ugh was really disappointed since I only had about three hours to go. Tomorrow is another day, inshallah all goes well.
  12. Glad you called your dr and that you are recovering! :-)

    9Months Post-Op and Pregnant!

Congrats - so happy for you!!
  14. WOW - amazing voice and amazing story! You have the wow factor and I'm sure you will make it big. Let us know where we can buy your album and if you have any shows on the west coast! Thank you for sharing!
  15. Ramadan Moubarak!!! I'm almost 7 months out - and I'm in the fast or don't fast phase. I'm having issues with dehydration and getting my fluids and Protein in since day one. But I think I'm going to give it a try and see if I can work my fluids in after Iftar and before sahour.
  16. I had similar pain after surgery! The pain was worse when I inhaled. It was because I didn't do my breathing exercises enough - have to do it every hour. But there could also be a chance of a blood cloth - so please call your dr or go into the ER room to get check - better safe than sorry.

    Water

If this is happening suddenly at 5 weeks you want to discuss with your surgeon to make sure you are okay. Try different Water temperatures, ice cold worked best for me. Others preferred warm water or room temperature. When it comes to flavor, you can try slicing fresh fruit and adding a little to the water (change the water every few hours). My dr also let me drink Gatorade early on - but check with yours - not all allow it that early. Hope you feel better!!

    Complications

Mine started about a week after surgery! It was just hard for me to drink and what I did get in almost immediately came out. Because of that it snowballed into other complications. So yes try and focus on drinking what they told you. If you can't stomach it - I found the lemon Gatorade helped - or just plain Water. Try different temperatures of liquids. Sometimes hot worked better, sometimes cold worked. There was even a time where I lived off of icee's. I did whatever I could to stay hydrated. Hopefully this is just a minor complication, and you will get through it quickly. Just remember if you feel you can't get your self hydrated, you need to ask your Dr. to do so through an IV.

    The apocalypse!

Omg - it's great to see this post - I thought I was the only one that worried about this. I think it would be a disadvantage. Pre-surgery we carried around enough body fat to keep us alive for little to no food. Post surgery, we'll need a constant source of food.
