Pre op diet messed up
That is good. My PSYCHO is pretty helpful. lol Yeah being around other people can eat normally sucks!!! The first day of my liquid diet my husband comes home and says, "get up we are leaving. We are going to go eat your last meal at Ruby Tuesday's." I just glared at him I was soooo pissed. Obviously, I yelled at him for not remembering I'm on a liquid diet. I live with my family...my mom, dad, sisters so I just try to hide out in our studio outside so I am not bombarded. For the most part I wasn't even hungry, but the smells ugh sooo good. I made my husband stop on the side of the road to eat his mcdonald's hamburger one day. I thought I could handle it because I wasn't hungry, but then the smell was sooo strong and good. I was like you need to get out. The smell is just too much. So he pulled over and stuffed his face. It was much better for me. My family is supportive, but very forgetful. We are almost done though! We can do it. I just keep thinking to myself, "If I can't be motivated for a week, then how do I expect to keep my motivation up for the rest of my life."

Pre op weight loss
So I am on the 6th day of my 7 day pre-op liquid diet. I did one week of no carbs (basically the induction phase of the south beach diet) before I started this liquid diet to ease myself into things. I lost 5 lbs on the week of no carbs and so far 7 lbs on this liquid diet. I started at 311 and I wanted to be under 300lbs by the time I went in for surgery! My first goal achieved!!! The liquid diet isn't so bad. I mean besides having dreams of forgetting I'm on a liquid diet and stuffing my face. One night I even had a dream that I smoked some weed and just started binge eating. Thank goodness these things were only in a dream. I haven't cheated once and am almost done. I just kept thinking, "If I can't do this for a week, then how do I expect to do this for the rest of my life." Somehow I found enough motivation to stick with it. Now, I'm just swimming along. "Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming." And soon it will be my time to take the fall...Wednesday October 30th, 2013 is the day my life will change forever.

Pre op diet messed up
The pre op diet is hard...I have two more days to go on mine! I keep having dreams that I forget I'm on a liquid diet and start eating. According to my dr., the purpose is to shrink the liver. My surgery is supposed to be only one incision through my belly button. If I don't shrink my liver enough, then I risk needing more incisions. I'm pretty sure they can still do the surgery if you messed up once, but it is less risky if you can stick to your diet! As a fellow binge eater (who sees a psychologist), I highly recommend you get that under control. Binge eating is never a healthy habit. Good Luck.

What to expect on liquid diet?
Thanks Ladies. One day down. It wasn't so bad. I was super emotional though.I don't know if that was related to the liquid diet phase. I was pretty full all day, but I do have to get over the head thing. I'm not hungry, but I keep worrying that i will forget and stick something in my mouth so I'm obsessing at this point. I think tomorrow will be a better day.

Pre-op liquid diet
I have one and a half days until I start my liquid diet. My surgeon only requires it for one week...Thank buddha or some other deity type that could be thanked. This is my 6th day no carbs and I'm feeling good. I did this to myself. I was afraid I would get migraines when I started my liquid diet so I put myself on a week of no carbs so at least I could take my medication if I needed to. This way when I hit the liquid diet phase I won't be absolutely miserable because i won't have those migraines that set in about three days into a low carb diet. I've lost 5 pounds on the low carb phase. I know it is water weight, but still weight. I'm curious to see what one week of liquids only will do to me. Time is going really slowwwwwwww now that I am so close to my surgery date. I want it done already. It is just like the last few months of being pregnant when you are just so sick of being pregnant. Same deal! Well, I'm hanging in there and that is all I can do.

I was told at my last appt I really can't lose any weight(bmi 40) during my 6 month trial
that sucks!. My dr. and his program go by the weight you actually started at. They go through great lengths to tell us not to worry about losing weight. They want us to lose weight so the surgery is safer. I am perfectly healthy besides being obese so I have to stay above the required bmi. According to him, studies show that requiring patients to lose weight before surgery (besides surgery being safer and recovery easier) doesn't do anything for those who have a weight problem...such as showing the dr. we are committed or have the motivation to do it. My dr. and hospital program has a "center of excellence" approval and they seem a little ahead of the times. Try calling your insurance and double checking with them what they require and what weight they take into consideration. I like to get things straight from the horses mouth because people think they know all the time. For example, in the beginning of my process my pcp insisted I had to take all these tests with her for my surgeon. I remember them saying not to worry about it and the paperwork they gave me even had a place to check off that said "test not taken" or something to that effect. She wouldn't listen to me and insisted that this is what they always do. So I did an ekg, bloodwork, urine test, chest x ray...all because she insisted. Come to find out I HAD TO DO IT OVER AGAIN because the surgeon puts a time limit on each test. Like my chest x ray is a month prior to surgery. Sometimes people's information is outdated...just a good idea to check for yourself. You are your biggest supporter.

Lighten up a little...
There are so many words being said, but all I hear is, "mine is bigger and better than yours." *totally annoyed by the path this thread has taken. I wish I could get my 20 minutes back that I spent reading this.

Anyone using a Fitbit?
yep. I love mine! I got it for christmas and just recently started using it. I have just the basic model, but it gets me moving more knowing what I have or haven't done. And it pairs with my fitness pal along with other applications.

Husbands (spouses/partners) responses to surgery?
I think education plays a huge deal. Unfortunately, my husband refuses to share what he is thinking. I think he is trying to protect me because he is probably scared to death that something can go wrong. Everyone is different and responds to different information. I have just tried to get him involved. What really helps him is knowing how simple the procedure is. I also wanted him to tell his family so he had someone to talk to if he needed it. All in all, surgery is scary for many people. I think it is a healthy fear. It is okay to be afraid, but hope for the best and know the odds. There is always a possibility of something going wrong, but the odds of that are minor. I mean more people die doing other things like driving cars, getting on airplanes. The odds of dying in a car crash is 5x the number of gastric sleeve. As far as losing too much weight and looking sickly. Well, I'm sure he will love you no matter what. And the doctor will tell you if you are going overboard.

Darkening Of Skin
It is definitely not dirt! I had this a lot throughout my life. When I lost weight it would go away. You see it a lot in Hawaii. It is a skin condition that tends to affect those of darker ancestry. I would scrub it and scrub it and scrub it and it would only get red. I have been to the dermatologist for it and he told me it was because of my weight. It definitely does go away as the weight comes off...so no worries.

Work Rumors..... Ahhhhh
I went the opposite direction. I told pretty much everyone at work. I am the manager and I wanted my workers to know why I was taking time off. I am also pretty excited about my procedure and have no embarrassment whatsoever about my decision. I stand behind my decision 100% I don't care what anyone thinks about my decision besides myself and my husband because they don't live my life and they don't know my history. Along with that, I know that my weight loss will be significant afterwards and instead of hearing rumors behind my back I'd rather just say it up front and give people nothing to talk about. I've had a few people try to talk me out of it, but I'm firm in my decision. I just tell them straight...you aren't going to talk me out of it. I've already paid for it. I'm already scheduled. I understand everyone is different. I am actually a pretty private person. I don't tell anyone my private business, but in this case I thought it was better for people to understand than to talk smack or judge me. My workers have been pretty understanding. They will ask me questions. They will ask me if I am excited. All in all, they will notice your transformation. I, personally, don't think having weight loss surgery is anything to hide or be ashamed of. Everyday I hear of someone else I know getting it done. And in a year they will just be jealous...and people who talk smack are usually jealous or have no lives, and those peoples' opinions should be the furthest thing from your mind. Just do what you do and be proud of it! Having that extra stress of whether or not to tell them or will they figure it out is a stress that is not needed going through this major life change. good luck

Only 2 weeks left until surgery

Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy
Aloha! I start my liquid diet on January 23rd. Dr. Fowler only requires one week. Yes, mine is a single incision through my belly button for my surgery. When I went to the nutritionist she wanted me to try the ketogenx diet plan because I have had much success with the south beach diet. I have not done it. shhhh!!!! Oh and I found out how much the surgeon fee is. It is $2400 so my portion will be $240.

Only 2 weeks left until surgery
So I only have 14 more full days until my surgery (January 30th is my scheduled day). I am getting nervous about my liquid diet which is supposed to start on the 23rd. I have feelings that I might cheat or that I will be a total b***h. The latter I know will be true no matter what. I've decided that I'm going to do no carbs starting tomorrow. I think this will help me be successful on my liquid diet. For some reason my dr. only requires one week pre op liquid diet. I think I am ready for this major life change. I haven't lost any weight from the time I started this whole process. I think I actually gained 8 pounds. I am not too worried about it because my mental state has had some significant changes. As for my binge eating disorder, I believe it is under control. For me, awareness, was all it took. I wasn't aware I had a problem before I went to the psychologist. After I became aware of the problem, and admitted that I binge I haven't had an episode since. I also practice mindful eating half of the time, which is better than none of the time. I feel more relaxed. I feel less anxious. I think if I continued to go to the psychologist and do slow changes the weight would come off slowly, eventually. Things that aren't perfect...I definitely eat too much sodium. I eat too much sugar. I need not to eat fast food at all. In comparison to before, I was eating fast food everyday, and sugar all day. It is a vast improvement, but still needs more. I can't wait for after my sleeve when I don't have those cravings and can actually focus on eating healthy. Even more so, I can't wait until the weight falls off and I can be more active again. I am probably one of the few that love exercise. I love feeling strong. I love feeling like I accomplished something. I have all these things on my list I want to do and accomplish. I also don't have the "last supper" syndrome that I used to do every time I started a new diet. My husband, on the other hand, is suffering from this syndrome knowing that his life is about to change too. He has been buying basically everything fried and bad for you...I think he is trying to fatten up before all of this or maybe he is stressed out. I'm not sure, but I'm glad I'm not the one buying all the bad food.
