    Tracking vs Not Tracking- Thoughts?

    Track! It may be easy now to eat such a low amount of calories, but a year from now when you are more hungry and can eat more it will really matter. It didn't take much for me in the beginning to stay on task. The further out you get, the more accountability you need to keep losing weight/maintain. It will be easier in the long run if you can get into the habit now.

    Not eating enough

    this is a long video, but if you have time to watch it: I went through the same sort of thing. I could only manage to get in 600 calories for the first couple of months and I think it really affected my rate of loss. The video talks about how our bodies adapt to a low calorie diet and actually slows down the metabolism to maintain homeostasis. I hit a stall the first week out after surgery. I had to really work to get my calories up. I didn't do it the proper way (because I didn't know what the right way was back then) which is slowly adding in calories. I just kind of jumped in there and went from 600 to 1000 and then I would feel full and then only eat 600 the next day. I am very aware of my body and its needs. I could feel that I wasn't getting enough calories. There are many who can lose weight with a low calorie diet (less than 1200 calories), but according to this dr./trainer there will be a point where you stop losing and you must go even lower to lose any body fat and your metabolism is ruined. I hope this gives you some other options. There are many different paths to get to the same place, but some are longer and harder than others.

    How much do you save on food?

    I don't save anything on groceries. I do eat far, far less and waste a lot of food. I started to buy more quality products like organic milk etc. I can totally taste a difference between organic milk and non, for example and with the amount of food I consume I really want to thoroughly enjoy what I am putting in my mouth. I suppose if I was single I would probably save some money, but I still buy a lot of my food for my family at places like costco. We still go out to eat and a lot of the time I find that the healthy, high protein entree that I should be eating is the most expensive. For example, my husband and I went to a restaurant about a month ago called Monkeypod. The only thing that was healthy in my eyes was the hormone-free, grass fed filet mignon. Well, I got it. It was 40+ dollars. I barely ate a fourth of it. I did take it home and nibbled on it later. I have just come to accept that I waste food and $$ on food. It was stressing me out for awhile, but the stress isn't worth it. I just now accept that if I choose to go out and eat I will be wasting both food and money unless I can find someone to share with...which never happens for me. Even at home, I waste food. Sometimes I just don't want to eat what I bought. I do eat far healthier than pre-sleeve. That is a fact.

    I think you should definitely have a back up plan. You don't know how you will feel yet.

    Vegetarians?

    I was a vegetarian for 4 years...not anymore. When I was a vegetarian I ate south beach diet ;minded and ate a lot of quorn which is oh so delicious. I think it is way better than chicken. I ate tofu, edamame, hummus, and lots of cheese. Maybe you can find an unflavored protein powder and mix it in hummus. Healthwise makes hot chocolate packets that you mix with water. Those are good and have 15 grams of protein.

    Day 8 - ER visit

    I can't imagine having a uti so soon after post op. It is already hard to drink enough water. Maybe try ice chips or really cold water. I know I can drink more water if it is super cold or chew ice.

    I have totally accepted that I will have a flap. I had it when I was 16 and lost of my weight...now that I am older and gained more weight I know it is inevitable.

    Post Workout Exercise

    I can drink about 32 oz during working out and 32 oz after my workout. This is a far cry from the baby sips I had to take the first few months.
  12. 7 months post op. 1000-1200 calories a day. I get about 100 grams of protein and between 50-120 grams of carbs depending on the day. I work out 6 days a week with one rest day. My regimen is 3-4 days of weight training/cardio and the other days an hour of hiit cardio.

    Reaching 100% excess weight loss?

    I am totally rooting for you to succeed. I feel for you and your struggles. Keep us posted. And you have done great! And I do understand you wanting to hit your goal, but you are a success already!
  14. I just had my 6 month post op check up appointment with my surgeon on Monday. I am actually 7 months, but my appointment was late. My dr. was very excited about my weight loss and said I was doing "fantastic." He said I could expect to lose another 30 pounds and then start to level off. Losing another 30 pounds would put me at about 180lbs which is still heavy for a female at 5'6". I told him my goal weight was 140 pounds and he said that my goal was "very aggressive". Hew made it very clear that it was possible, but would take "other" things to reach my very aggressive goal. I am assuming the other things are eating healthy and exercising. I have read that sleeved patients lose between 70 and 80% of his or her excess weight. For those who have reached 100% of excess weight loss...what did it take? How difficult was it? How often did you have to exercise? How many calories were you consuming? Please tell me your story as to what worked for you and how I can reach my goal. I want to show up at my 1 yr. post op appointment being under my projected weight of 180 pounds. It is definitely a motivating factor when someone tells me it is highly unlikely I can accomplish said goal because I am more determined to reach that goal.

    Reaching 100% excess weight loss?

    I love, love, love this. My weight loss also stalled in the beginning because I wasn't getting enough calories to fuel my exercise regimen. You look very fit and can't wait to be there someday. I think we have similar qualities. I like to exercise...love it actually. This is something I have going for me. Thank you for keeping us posted on your long term success!!!

  17. Hello all, I am in the market for a wireless set of headphones. I have been doing some research on a couple of brands like jaybird, jabra, and motorola. The reviews are always so mixed. I am looking for some input because I keep whacking my chord while I am on the treadmill running for example and down goes my phone and I have to stop. I even lost one of my ear bud pieces the other day because my phone fell and it went flying. Ugh! I was so annoyed because I couldn't find it and had to work out without my music. I work out 100% better with some kind of rhythm motivating me to move. Anyone have a set they really like? I am looking for a bluetooth set that has earbuds or something similar. I have smaller ears so that is something I am looking for too. Also, it needs to be sport like...for the sweat. Has anyone had a pair for more than a year? that still works great?

    Thanks fiddle. Jaybird has been my top pick so far. I didn't want to spend that kind of money without seeing what other people think first. I've picked it up quite a few times in best buy and then put them back. Any problems with the fit? or them falling out?

    Realizations

    Well, I have come to a new realization recently. What is it? I used to love to cook, but now I don't even care for it. I haven't cooked in about 3 weeks! What have I been eating? Well, yogurt, protein shakes, protein bars, protein pudding, healthwise hot chocolate, and things I buy from the market or restaurants. Pretty much anything ready to go! It does provide me the nutrition I need, but I am pretty sure I can't get all the nutrition my body needs from such things. I have a disinterest in food. It has been this way for awhile now. I didn't realize that it was affecting other aspects of my life. I still get hungry. I still want to eat. My interest in eating something specific or when I think of something I want to eat...I just can't. I used to be able to pin point exactly what I was in the mood for before surgery. Now, I try to think about what I have a hankering for and NOTHING! I suppose this is a good thing. I have been eating out a lot for the last few months. I couldn't really understand why I was doing this because I didn't crave this food. I just drummed it up to being super busy and never being home to cook meals. I am always on the go and never home so it just made sense to me. It finally dawned on me that even when I am home I don't want to cook. I just needed a little down time to actually think about such things. I don't eat horrible. I get my protein, water, and calories in. I don't really eat any vegetables. Even when I do go out, I stay away from breads, pastas, etc and get something more protein based. I think I can do better though. That is my new goal to do better with this. I think I will drop faster if I eat more real food instead of the shakes, bars, and puddings. We shall see as I will be putting more effort into cooking actual food.

    Question for Women of Color...

    I am almost 8 months post op...Hawaiian/Filipino ancestry. My incision scars are still pretty dark. They have lightened up a little bit, but not much. I'm not worried though as I will probably never be showing my tummy to anyone, but my husband and doctor.
