True Keto is very high fat (like >70 grams), moderate carb (30-45 grams) and very low carb (<20) a day. I am 4 years out and have been Keto for a while. My surgeon and docs are all for it, I used this to conquer some regain and also to resolve a health issue.

It is quite different from a 'bariatric' diet. I don't drink milk or eat yogurt anymore, I follow the rules of keto, I eat my macros calculated out for me. They change as my weight goes down. I also incorporate Intermittent Fasting which also has made a huge difference. I will probably eat this way forever. There are tons of resources out there, especially on youtube and there are substitutes for EVERYTHING, but I try to stick to a very basic food list.

where do you get your macros from? which calculator do you use and do you tailor it to yourself?

    Aloha,

Just checking in. I was sleeved January 30, 2013. I started at 311 pounds and currently weigh 171 pounds. I have not reached goal yet. I am still happy with my progress, but I definitely took some detours along the way. Hang in there everyone. I know sometimes when the scale stays the same for more than a week it is frustrating, but eventually it does come off. Stay strong, count calories (or whatever works for you), keep active, and look ahead.

  3. I am also a fan of Quest bars. In the beginning, I just got the standard ones from costco. Over time, I didn't care for the coatings on all of them. Most Protein bars have that chocolate coating that just got too sweet for me. I found quest bars and they are wonderful. I can keep them in my car in the hot sun and not worry about them being a mess when I want to eat one. Cookie dough is my fav!!!

  5. 8 months out here and there is NO WAY I could eat a 6 inch sub. I had a filet o fish yesterday and only ate most of the fist piece and almost a half of a bun and I was stuffed...like to the point where it was hurting a little. I try to stay away from bread because it fills me up so fast. Even wraps i try to take most of it off. I can be very strict on my carbs, but I find that even on those days that I think I ate A LOT of carbs I have only managed about 100 grams. It is still very difficult at my stage to eat the Protein I need first and then still have room for carbs.

  6. Hello fellow sleevers,

I made my first green smoothie today in my vitamix blender. It consisted of kale, ginger, apple, carrot, and almond milk. Well, lets just say my green monster tasted just as nasty as it looked! I really, really, really, really, did I say really??? I really want to like and enjoy green smoothies!!!

Anyone have great recipes to share?

I don't eat a lot of vegetables because I still barely have room for my Protein. I want to get some greens in there and I know what great benefits green smoothie drinks have raved about.

Will my taste buds adapt to the green smoothie taste? Or maybe I am doing something wrong?

    Help!

  7. It happens. It just happened to me this week also. I don't usually fret about it, but I do examine closely what I have been eating. I am very sensitive to sodium. For example, pre-surgery I could gain 15 pounds during a weekend of "partying", but if I ate clean the next couple of days following that weekend I would drop the 15 pounds no problem. So, I understand that my body has the capability of hoarding Water weight. It will come off. I would drink a lot of water.

  8. I am female. Thanks for posting the YouTube reference. It's very interesting. Not going to be competing but it seems to support what my NUT said. Don't want to live on 600 cal. I'm going to not worry about cals and concentrate on protein' date=' carbs and Water intake. Time (and the scale) will tell.[/quote']

Lol. I won't be competing either. The extreme low calorie diet is the same idea no matter the purpose.

  9. this is a long video, but if you have time to watch it:

I went through the same sort of thing. I could only manage to get in 600 calories for the first couple of months and I think it really affected my rate of loss. The video talks about how our bodies adapt to a low calorie diet and actually slows down the metabolism to maintain homeostasis.

I hit a stall the first week out after surgery. I had to really work to get my calories up. I didn't do it the proper way (because I didn't know what the right way was back then) which is slowly adding in calories. I just kind of jumped in there and went from 600 to 1000 and then I would feel full and then only eat 600 the next day.

I am very aware of my body and its needs. I could feel that I wasn't getting enough calories.

There are many who can lose weight with a low calorie diet (less than 1200 calories), but according to this dr./trainer there will be a point where you stop losing and you must go even lower to lose any body fat and your metabolism is ruined.

I hope this gives you some other options. There are many different paths to get to the same place, but some are longer and harder than others.

  10. I don't save anything on groceries. I do eat far, far less and waste a lot of food. I started to buy more quality products like organic milk etc. I can totally taste a difference between organic milk and non, for example and with the amount of food I consume I really want to thoroughly enjoy what I am putting in my mouth.

I suppose if I was single I would probably save some money, but I still buy a lot of my food for my family at places like costco.< /p>

We still go out to eat and a lot of the time I find that the healthy, high Protein entree that I should be eating is the most expensive.

For example, my husband and I went to a restaurant about a month ago called Monkeypod. The only thing that was healthy in my eyes was the hormone-free, grass fed filet mignon. Well, I got it. It was 40+ dollars. I barely ate a fourth of it. I did take it home and nibbled on it later.

I have just come to accept that I waste food and $$ on food. It was stressing me out for awhile, but the stress isn't worth it. I just now accept that if I choose to go out and eat I will be wasting both food and money unless I can find someone to share with...which never happens for me.

Even at home, I waste food. Sometimes I just don't want to eat what I bought.

I do eat far healthier than pre-sleeve. That is a fact.

  11. I'm coming up on 6 months and I've only lost 30 pounds. That would be great' date=' except the first 20 came off in the first 2 months and the next 5 came off in month 3 and 4. I haven't lost a pound in two months. I work out five days a week. I take in about 1200 calories a day. Every week I try to break things up by having a cheat day. I'll also try to have days where I only take in about 900 to 1000 calories to see if I can make the scale budge (I weigh every morning before I eat). Inches were coming off at first, but now even those have slowed drastically. This week I didn't lose any inches at all (I measure waist, bust, hips, tummy, arms, and legs every Friday morning). I started at 231 and am about 201 (on a weekly basis my weight fluctuates between 205 and 201). I'm so tired and frustrated and worried that I'm going to be stuck here forever. Has anyone experienced this kind of stall? If so, how did you break it? My nut hasn't been particularly helpful.[/quote']

What do you do in your workouts? Besides working out...what is your lifestyle like?

  12. I was a vegetarian for 4 years...not anymore. When I was a vegetarian I ate south beach diet ;minded and ate a lot of quorn which is oh so delicious. I think it is way better than chicken. I ate tofu, edamame, hummus, and lots of cheese. Maybe you can find an unflavored Protein powder and mix it in hummus. Healthwise makes hot chocolate packets that you mix with Water. Those are good and have 15 grams of protein.
