Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

Do you know what type of Saucony's you have? I wear a grid stabil Saucony for motion control. If you can tell me what you have it would give me a better idea of what the shoe is doing on your foot (look on the tongue) Bunions can certainly change the way your feet hit the pavement so, yes, that could be part of the issue. Orthotics probably won't help as it their job is to basically support the foot from mid food to the back. There's some cushioning in the foot box area (were the toes are). But not much for support in that area. Have you ever seen a podiatrist? That might be the quickest way to get both your bunions and your feet squared away....

A couple of things, shoes shouldn't cause knee pain. So that tells me that your gait or form might be a little off. Try going a little slower and leaning a little more forward. Also, and this is a personal thing, the vibarms are really bad if you are just starting running. Typically folks that have almost perfect running form are get the most out of those shoes. If you can't get fitted, try an get the best shoes you can and supplement them with some orthotics. I use powersteps, but there are several other brands. What they do is help support your feet in the heel and fore foot area. I hardly ever run in the with the inserts that come in the shoes and replace them with better orthotics. Find some that cushion your heel and has a heel cup (a rise in the edge around the heel). They run in the $20-$40 range and will make a difference. Lastly ice, ice baby. I have a pretty wonky foot that has terrible planter faecitius. I ice it down a couple of times a day especially after running and when I can do some stretches first thing every morning. If you aren't icing them, try that.

    Before and after foods?

Yep, eat basically what I want. Taste buds haven't changed. Haven't had issues with foods not settling well. I don't eat the same foods, however since that basically is how I became a fat ass, so I changed my habits and now strive for a healthy balanced diet.

    Alcohol ..

YOLO!! Right? Happy Birthday in 6 months!! Seriously, you go get that drink on!!! Come back and let us know what all you did. I quit drinking booze, but that's just me. I live vicariously through others so please come back and tell us all about it k?
  7. Okay, relax. Early on you will not feel much of a restriction, but you will once you get to dense foods.. Your stomach won't stretch, but pressure could be put on the staple line so please be careful for the first few months. Not sure if jello is on your eating plan this early but I would try to stick to liquids for at least the first week or so.

    Medic Alert bracelet

here's something to keep in mind. There's a big difference between a bypass and a sleeve. We do not have a pouch. Our stomach has hadthe fundis removed. The actual length of the stomach is no different than before surgery only the width. An NG tube wouldn't generally do anything to the sleeve.

Oh yeah we were talking about running...weren't we...
  10. Folks. all this is just temporary. Your life after sleeve is pretty much normal. You won't be busting out at the buffet, or knocking back a large pie with extra cheese, but you can resume living and I promise you will live much better than your are now. Try to hang in there and focus on the long run. This process is equally tough mentally as it is physically. just so you know, I went to lunch today with a friend. She wanted to go mexican, so we did. I had a nice, but healthy lunch and totally enjoyed the conversation and company. You'll be fine. If this is making you crazy/depressed etc. take the opportunity to figure out why. Maybe that reason is why you are going through the WLS process......
  11. First, you aren't really starving...most likely you have something called head hunger. This is tough and you really need to stick to the Drs. plan as it will allow you to heal. Second, are you taking a PPI? Gas build up and acid in the stomach area can feel like hunger but it really isn't. Lastly Cheerios are really bad food, so please avoid them if you can. Be patient and keep busy, try walking since you are only a couple of days PO. You will get past this, but it takes a bit of effort on your part. Hang in there.

    Counting fluids

My stalker-nutritionist says no, that Protein drinks should be counted only as protein, so to keep her off my case I don't count that as fluid. If I use a protein shot and mix it with Powerade, then I count it both.

    Counting fluids

Two things, I have a Water bottle that has the amount of liquid it holds (32oz), I know that I have to drink 3 of those a day.... I also use myfitnesspal to log food and drink. Once you get in the habit, it get super easy...there's an app for that.

Week 7 Day 2 done. Foot is really wonky, but the hell with it. I got another one. July 18th, running with my girls, chasing them actually, at the National Whitewater Center. Should be good for a laugh or 10.

    Pre op

I've done HCG, and I'm not a big fan. Didn't really do anything except make my wallet thinner. I would think eating a sensible balanced diet would help you the best. Get started figuring out your proteins, start pounding back the water, because dehydration is b***h. Maybe a week out go full on liquids and go from there. Good luck with your surgery!

what is the big hype with greek yogurt?

Its a better source of protein than regular, when you are restricted to soft foods and beyond. Plain does well to add texture to smoothies and is good mixed with fresh fruits (at least to me anyway). I use is as a replacement for sour cream. I don't do sugar free or fat free anything so I can comment on that part of it.

    Emotional break down

I wouldn't worry too much. A good surgeon can easily work around a fatty liver. Shrinking just makes things a little easier, but I doubt seriously it would be a show stopper. Try relax, breath and focus on the long term. The surgery is just a first of many steps. Hang in there, you'll be okay.

    And so it begins...

On top of the things you mentioned. Get used to drinking Water, a lot of water. If you don't like water, start to like it. Being dehydrated after surgery is the worst. Another tip that I truly believe in is getting your butt into gear and working out. If you aren't, start right now. By surgery be able to walk no less than a half mile non stop and without being winded. The more you can do, the better you will be on the back side. Take this time to figure out your relationship with food and eating. The surgery is only one step of many. The biggest issue that I see on this board is that people have the expectation that the weight will just simply go away with very little effort. They want to hide behind the "everything is okay in moderation" meme. That is a huge myth, if we could do moderation, would we be here? You have to work at it every day. I am working off weight that I have lost at least 3 times in the past, and this way is a lot tougher than the other 3 times. Some people have a hard time reconciling that permanent lifestyle changes are necessary in order to achieve the goal that I think you are seeking. Have patience in yourself and in the process. If your Dr. or nutritionist says don't do something (like drink soda or booze) then follow their plan. Everybody's Dr does it differently so coming to the internet boards and asking permission or absolution might make one feel better, but in the long term, we are all just bunch of fat asses so what do we know? Good luck to you. It sounds like you are going in with your eyes wide open. You'll do fine!
  21. Actually, they are pretty easy to make. I haven't made croissant dough in a long time, but you can get the same rush using puff pastry dough.
  22. Nice!! Did you see that Dunkin is now doing that as a Breakfast item...Sausage and Egg in a donut...They should be arrested for physical assault.
