  1. If flew from NC to NM 9 days after surgery. Wasn't a big deal. All my Dr. said was not to lift anything into the overhead compartment, and I'd be fine, I was.

Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

Moved my training this AM to outside to get off the treadmill and out of the air conditioning. Backed up to Week 4 day 1. It was 81 degrees at the time we ran. My wonderful, beautiful, super fast, future Olympian daughter ran 4 miles in the time it took me to run 2. But no ambulance or paramedics were needed. So I will take it.

    Keeping my clothes.

I have several suits that I'm having altered. Didn't want to donate them because they where $$$. When I took them to the shop, the lady thought that i had just bought them too big, I had to splain to her that at one time, they actually fit. She's also cutting down my whites since they are too expensive to buy new all the time.

    Wowzers! Grits!

Being a good ol son of the South and a former chef in Charleston SC, I truly love grits. Unfortunately, there are on my "white" food list along with pasta, rice, white flour and white sugar that I have retired from my personal menu. They are truly good though

    Tap water

It is really strange how all of us are different. I can drink water from any source, tap, bottled, Dasani, Aquafina etc. Doesn't matter, plain or ice cold. Water is good and really good for you and to me, tastes like water . One thing to note about bottled waters, Dasani has a higher level of sodium than some of the others. It is something that Coca Cola does for some strange reason to make the taste consistent from bottler to bottler. if you are watching your sodium intake or have HBP issues, it would be something to consider.

If your a1c is too high?

I would really doubt that they would delay it. You might be on a more restrictive pre-op to get down as much weight as possible. The A1C is a composite of weeks/months of glucose levels. So you current glucose level would be a more determining factor of your surgery risk. My A1C was 7.0 at the time of my surgery it is now 5.5. They did check my glucose about ever 4 hours when I was in the hospital and it was pretty high like 285, but it came down over time and now runs in the 85-90 range.

    Energy/exhaustion

Do what you can, as you can. I am a different mutant, I was sleeved on a Tuesday and was back at the gym on the following Monday. Mostly just walked on the treadmill, but it felt good to get active.

    Tuna?!

depending what stage you are in, yes. I eat tuna quite a bit.

    Energy/exhaustion

You just had a fairly major surgery. It takes time to bounce back. Give yourself a break and stay the course. Get your vitamins, proteins and water in like you are doing. Try to stay as active as you can. It will come, it just may not be next week, but it will happen. Hang in there.

    AGE

I'm 54, I will be 55 in August. I don't think I've had any harder time due to my advanced age. I've had zero complications. My weightloss has been slower than some, but I really don't have a lot of problems with that. My goal was to get off all the drugs I was taking, and I am almost there. Good luck, with your surgery. Let me know if you have any questions.

Only if we chew and spit....

    Ignore user?

I've decided that jager bombs are now certainly okay 2 weeks after surgery. So anyone that posts "that" question is getting that recommendation from now on. BTW, if you are going to put me in the ignore can, it is spelled j.o.h.n.l.a.t.t.e

    mmmmm....Beer

Also take a look at some of the barleywines that are out there. I just picked up some Sierra Nevada Big Foot Ale. No bubbles, really get ale taste. One bottle is a bit up there calorie wise, AND alcohol wise, but a half of a bottle poured Italian style (small juice style glass) does a really good job.

Good for you Amanda. Just go slow and it will be fine.

Going slow will be just fine Laura, you just have to stick with it. If you stop, then you need to go back to square one and start over again.

Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

My base cardio time is 1 hour every day (every day). So how ever long it takes me to get through a C25k day + what ever it takes to make an hour. For example I usually do a warm up walk of a full 10 minutes before i start to run. running takes 35 minutes, so that's 45 minthes Then I do a circuit of lifting, but not really anything heavy more for flexibility. I will lift heavier as I get closer to my goal weight then finish with 15 minutes of elliptical or arc or back on the treadmill or just run outside. On days that I don't do C25k I may still do a little light running or use the elliptical or the arc trainer to get to 60 minutes. On running days I work on upper body on non running days, I work on lower body. Every day I do between 50 and 60 crunches or reverse crunches. On the weekends I usually run at least 2 miles at a fairly easy pace and may just walk depending on how busy I am or I bad of week I've had. this is all trial and error. About 7 years ago, I was in pretty good shape, and this is the same routine that I did then. Except back then I did a ton of squats. I may start back at that at some point, but for now running works for me. But for others, they may want to do less cardio and more lifting. You just have to find the balance that works best for you. There is no a one size fits all solution.

    Confrontational People

As long as any board remains anonymous there will always be posters that will post what could be termed hateful or rude posts. That's the nature of the beast. It is something called "deindividuation". Social norms get cast aside behind the anonymity of the screen name. Ever scream at someone when you are behind the wheel of your car and they cut you off or commit some other act of ass clownery? Its the same principle. It happens to any type of board where you can hide your true identity. Go over to My Fitness Pal and mention that you have had WLS and see how long it is before your screen starts to melt. There's always going to be turds floating in the punchbowl. Doesn't mean much, really. We aren't related to each other and if you get butthurt by what someone posts on some of these boards, what does that really say? People here are passionate one way or the other, or they wouldn't participate in the community. I'd personally rather see a lively board full of flavor and debate, even it gets a little personal, rather than a bland, everyone has the same opinion and everyone high fives each other at the end of the day. The entertainment factor alone makes it worthwhile to visit this nuthouse.

    Cooking with wine

No not at all. Cooking with wine is perfectly acceptable. There will be an increase in calories, but you are cooking out the alcohol. There will be an increase in sugars as the sauce reduces, so go really easy on it. But you should be fine for the most part.
  21. I think you are going to be just fine. Hang in there.

    Can we eat

It is one of my staples.
  23. hmmm at 6 days, even watered down that might be a bit heavy. The broccoli would need to be thrown in the blender for sure. The cheese soup might not settle well as some people post op have a lactose intolerance. Also a lot of processed soups from fast food places have a ton of sodium and right now that might not be the best either. At a minimum you can try it and see, but definitely blend the broccoli.
  24. I totally get what you are saying. The thing though to keep in mind, is that the further out you go, the easier it will be to slip back into those habits. The sleeve can be easily defeated, and a significant change in lifestyle is the only real way that we will be successful. That's tough, but this is a great time, during your honeymoon phase to get out of those bad habits and relearn how to eat for fuel and not recreation. It sounds like you've experienced that in the past, and I would urge you really concentrate on not only eating smaller portions, but eating a balanced diet. All the sleeve does is limit capacity, and as you go on, that capacity is going to get bigger. What the sleeve won't do is make good choices for you. That's where the hard part comes in. Good luck, it sounds like you are on your way.
