My surgery is Monday also. Im on the 10 day liquid diet. So far things have been better than I expected as far as not being hungry. Today is the first day Im feeling kind of emotional like I could cry at any time. Im trying to look forward and think about all of the positive changes there will be but I'm anxious about the surgery. I just want it to be tuesday and know that Im alright and ready to start losing weight.

good luck! The one thing that is crazy to me is only being able to eat a few bites of food after surgery! I dont know why but that just seems sooo unreal to me right now.

    Working to Get Healthy:

I think that the feelings you're experiencing are completely normal, the first day of my pre-op diet I was an emotional wreck. I can't speak for you, but for me the more overweight I became the more food/eating became my hobby, my friend, my support system. It's hard to admit that all now, but I think it's normal to grieve a change in that relationship. As my pre-op diet progressed, (I'm on day five now), I started to function more normally and feel more like myself! I hope the same has gone for you, those first couple days were really difficult! I can share some things that I did that have helped me feel better and got me even more excited about surgery:

-I took "before" photos, once I uploaded them from my camera to my computer I found myself questioning- How did I get this big? Is that REALLY how I look? I can't wait to take some better post-op pictures!!!

-I committed to myself that I would start doing something that I love again once I've hit my weight loss goal. Horseback riding, it was my passion growing up and I would love to get back into it!

-I've really enjoyed looking up recipes that will be good choices post-operatively. Yesterday when I went to my required pre-op surgery class, one of the speakers provided us with a lsit of books that we might want to purchase for advice/recipes. She said that one of her favorites was 1: The complete idiots guide to eating well after weight loss surgery by Margaret Furtado, Joseph Ewing ISBN: 978-1-59257-951-8 (I am planning on purchasing the book!)

I hope some of my suggestions will help you and I wish you the best of luck

Monday morning for me too. Best of luck. Definitely a lifestyle change. Been on liquid diet for 10 days and it hasn't been bad. Lost 16 pounds so far. Just less I have to lose after.

I do worry about lifestyle changes. For example, my husband and I like to travel and i'm thinking about how that will be affected by these lifestyle changes. But i know that lots of things will change for the better- like tying my darn shoes with ease! Lol. Good luck with your surgery.

Like many, I have been overweight for most of my life. I have tried Weight Watchers, Metabolic Weight Loss, Personal Trainers, Diet pills, and numerous other "fad" diets with little to no results. I made the desicion in 2012 to have Gastric Sleeve Surgery to get myself to a healthy and comfortable weight. I went through the required 6 months of doctor visits and phyciatric evaluation, and I am scheduled for surgery on Monday 11-12-12.
I always knew that surgery was a life changing experience, but it wasn't until the Pre Op diet that I realized the changes my life was go through. I have been doing the Pre Op diet for 5 days now. (My doctor's office requires a 10 day Pre Op diet.) I have not really been hungry, but I have most definately not been satisfied. I feel like I am in panic mode at this point. I keep finding different things that will, in my mind, never be the same again. I know that this surgery is what I want and that I need something to drastically in change my life before I am barely able to move around. However, I can't help feeling a bit of loss for the lifestyle I have been living.
Has anyone else felt these emotions? Is this a normal reaction or is my brain going crazy over the lack of carbohydrates?
Thanks in advance for any advice/encouragement!
