  1. Is it normal for my incision to be oozing? It's the port incision. Its kind of a yellow liquid, its not like pus, it's almost the color and consistency of melted butter. Its a very small amount. I have no other signs of infection....no fever, no chills, no redness around the area, the area is not warm to the touch and there is no odor. I will call my surgeon in the morning but I was just wondering if this is normal in the meantime. Thanks.
  2. Hey, I was wondering if any of you had any drainage from any of your incisions. I am having a very small amount of oozing from my port incision and one other one. It is a light buttery color and thin liquid (not like pus). I don't have any other signs of infection....no fever, redness, swelling, odor, etc. I'm just wondering if this is normal? I'm kind of scared because everyone says if you have yellow or green drainage, that means infection and go to the ER right away. But, it's a very small amount and like I said, no other signs of infection. I will call my surgeon's office tomorrow. But do you all think its okay in the meantime?
  3. Sorry to ask this question....its kind of embarrassing but how soon did any of you have a bowel movement after surgery?
  4. I know this is off subject but is a little bit of clear oozing from an incision normal?
  5. Great thread, thanks. I was just banded yesterday but lost 15 pounds on the pre-op diet. I will keep a close eye on it. My tachycardia (fast heartrate) is definitely already much better!
  6. Hi, I was just banded yesterday. Is it normal to not "feel" the presence of your band? I can certainly feel the incisions and port site but I can't really tell any difference as far as my stomach goes. I can feel a very slight tightness in my chest between my breasts and that is all and a lot of times I can't even feel that. Is that the band? I thought it would be a lot more noticable in there, at least at first. Thanks.
  7. What about right after surgery? My surgery was today and I even crushed my birth control pill just because I wasn't sure and didn't want to take any chances? Is this necessary? It is very small.
  8. I just had surgery this morning and I am hungry. Did this happen to any of you? I am sipping some broth so maybe it will help. I was just wondering...my doc said I could have broth, gatorade and water only today.
  9. Well gals, I had my surgery today. Dr B was great. My liver was still big but I had lost about 15 pounds on the pre-op diet and he said if I hadn't, he wouldn't have been able to do the surgery. I'm sore at the port site, especially when coughing and moving. I'm having a hard time getting comfortable to sleep but other than that, doing good. Thanks for the support ladies!
  10. I'm here! Doing good. Some pain at port site, especially when moving, coughing, etc. My mouth and throat feel dry as a bone no matter how much I sip. Typical stuff. The gas hasn't been bad. I can't really get comfortable to sleep though. Did you all have that problem? Did any of you have broth the day of surgery? The doc said I could but I'm kinda scared to. I have had lots of water and ice today and a small bit of watered down powerade. My stomach is rumbling and I can't tell if its hunger or just irritation. Feelis kinda like hunger but I've never read of anyone being hungry on the day of their surgery. Well, good luck to all those tomorrow!
  11. Oh my gosh, this is so good!!! Seriously, it rivals a McDonalds strawberry shake. Strawberry Cheesecake Shake -2 scoops of vanilla Myocel or vanilla Protein powder of your choice -4 ounces skim milk -4 frozen strawberries -1/4 cup sugar free, fat free Jello Cheesecake pudding Add all ingredients (protein powder last) in blender or smoothie machine and blend until smooth!!!
  12. I thought of some more questions. Did you have to have a catheter? How soon could you take a shower? Did they give you your pain med prescription at your pre-op visit so you could go ahead and fill it or when you were discharged?
  13. Does anyone know how long it took you to wake up after they finished the surgery?
  14. Chris-Thanks and good luck to you too. Hope your mom is doing well.
  15. I had my bloodwork done 2 weeks to the day before my surgery. Cardiac testing I had before I even scheduled my surgery but I had to have more thorough testing. But I wouldn't worry because bloodwork can be back in a few days and EKG results are printed out on the spot when they take it.
  16. "All other medicine where in the IV." So did you like have to count and then you were out or did you just fall asleep before you even knew what was happening? Were you already in the operating room when you fell asleep?
  17. Hello, I'm having my surgery on Thursday and have some questions. 1. Did you have to take off your panties during surgery? Sorry if that's a dumb question. 2. Did they give you something as soon as you got there to calm your nerves? I know I will be a nervous wreck and so my blood pressure will be high. I don't want them canceling my surgery because of that. 3. Did you only have Water all day after your surgery or did you go ahead and have broth, Jello or something like that? 4. How much weight did you lose on your pre-op diet and could you tell a difference? I've lost about 12 pounds but there is still a LOT of fat around my upper middle where they will be making the incisions. I hope this is ok. 5. After your surgery, did you sleep most of the rest of the day? Well, I know there was another one but I can't think of now. If I remember it later, I'll post it. Thanks.
  18. Hi Mary and Kagoscuba-Good luck to you both. My band date is the 27th too!!!
  19. Bugalu-I know exactly what you are going through and how you are feeling. I have been in therapy for a year and a half with a counselor who specializes in eating disorders and still haven't figured out what my "issue" is. I mean, yeah, there are a lot of issues in my life and we talk about them but that doesn't mean they are resolved....not by a long shot. She has helped me a lot, don't get me wrong but I still eat for whatever reason. When she asks you what you are getting from overeating that makes you continue the habit, I don't think she is trying to be mean. My counselor has asked me this in the past as well. And, same as you, I don't know. If you can at all, I would try to see a counselor who specializes in eating disorders. This shows that you are willing to get to the root of your eating problem and gives you something to fall back on when you have your pre op psych eval. That way, you can tell them you have a counselor to help you deal with the emotional part of changing your eating habits. That's all they want.....not to stop you from having surgery but just to make sure you have the proper support for after. If you just do a search for eating disorder counselors and then put your city and state after, you might be able to find someone. Or, if you want to tell me where you live, I would be happy to do a search on the web for you. I used this website to find mine but I don't know what state you live in. Eating Disorder Hope - Treatment Providers for Eating Disorders Anyway, good luck and let me know if you have any more questions or just need to talk.
  20. No, my surgery is this Thursday. I may tell her I can go tomorrow and just get a grilled chicken salad or something. I can have something like that.
  21. My grandma wants to take me to lunch next week! I'm not telling that side of my family because they are judgmental and weird. I really don't want to go anyway but she gave me 4 different days that she could go so it's not like I can make up an excuse for every day. But, it's not like I can fake it if I do go. What do I do?
  22. Laura-How did your port revision go?
  23. Help, I'm freaking out! Did any of you have to reschedule surgery because your liver was too large? Or did he go ahead and do it but tell you later that your liver was pretty big? I'm getting scared because even though I have followed the diet pretty closely, I did have about 2 oz of 2% cheese almost every day, high Protein soy crisps (about 1/3 of a serving) a few times, and several of the days I only had 1 myocel shake (instead of 2) because more than that gave me diarrhea. Now, after reading and re-reading everything, I'm afraid that what if I ate too much fat by including the cheese, what if I messed up and did not allow my liver to shrink enough by only having 1 shake per day? WHAT IF THEY GET IN THERE AND CAN'T DO THE SURGERY? I WILL JUST DIE!!!! OKAY....BREATHE...... Do you think it will help if I go to straight liquids and do 3 myocel shakes per day and broth, crystal light and sf Jello only for the next 3 days till surgery? I can't risk going in there and not getting to have the surgery. I have lost 11 pounds but who knows if that's just Water weight or what. PS For those who don't know, Dr B's diet includes 2 daily myocel Protein Shakes and 2 meat/veggie/fruit meals per day plus crystal light, sf jello, etc.
  24. They didn't give me the option of exchanging mine. They just gave me a new one and charged it to the insurance. Now, whether they will pay for a 2nd one or not is a different story. But, if it gets denied and the medical supply store tries to charge me, I will just tell them to take it back because I'm not paying for it when they already got paid for one.
