Is it normal for my incision to be oozing? It's the port incision. Its kind of a yellow liquid, its not like pus, it's almost the color and consistency of melted butter. Its a very small amount. I have no other signs of infection....no fever, no chills, no redness around the area, the area is not warm to the touch and there is no odor. I will call my surgeon in the morning but I was just wondering if this is normal in the meantime. Thanks.

I had lap band surgery 2 1/2 wks ago. I had not had any problems until 2 days ago when I noticed the incision above my navel had a raised circular area around it. As I looked closer, I noticed slight drainage from one end of the incision. It was "watery" and clear, tinged with red and yellow. I freaked!! Called my doctor, saw me that afternoon. He prescribed antibiotics and said that this was not a major problem - to wash the area 3X daily with bacterial soap and water and place a loose bandage over it. The next AM the area was red and draining more, but by that night was looking much better and no drainage. Am still taking my antibiotic and the area is almost completely healed. You'll feel much better after you see your surgeon. Hope all goes well.

Oozing can be normal as the port material reacts with fat and it sometimes melts (the fat melts). But it's usually a pale reddish color. The yellow is VERY concerning.

You need to not just call your doc in the AM, you need to be seen in the AM. If you cannot be seen tomorrow you seriously need to go to ER just to check it out. Maybe it's nothing, maybe it's an infection. It needs to be looked at.
