  1. Big shout out for "wasabubble butt"!!!!! My teenage years of being fat destroyed me, I ended up in many bad relationships, because how could anyone love the fat chick, I was happy to be in a bad relationship because it was all I could get, or so I thought! If I had sorted out my weight in my teens I wouldn't have had to go through that crap..... As I said my son is heavy, 14 and 220llb 5'9,k his Dad is 6'4 and I'm hoping he now just grows upwards. I will and would do anything in my power to save him any unhapiness. At the moment he is doing great with his food and exercise he's down 20llbs but I try not to dewl to much on his weight because I want him to know that he is so much more than that and I want him to get on with his life. I truly hope he manages to gain controle of his weight, and food. Unlike me who has struggled with it all my life. If he get's to 16/17 and it is still a problem I will look at banding for him. The funny thing is my daughter who is 11 and has always been slim has started to put weight on, quite a bit. Now I have never once mentioned this to her, I have never reffered to her weight gain, in the opposite I have told her how beautiful and curvy she is and do you know what, she thinks she is "Canadians next top model". I have noticed she herself is begining to take controle of portion sizes and exercise! But as for self essteam she has it in bucketfuls, It makes me wonder how much of my sons weight issues I have caused indirectly. As soon as he started to put weight around 7yrs old I freaked and tried to take controle of it, whilst not even being able to take controle of my own! Jx
  2. Hey Robgoblin87, for 19 you sure are one smart kid! Jx
  3. Ducky, My heart bleeds for your and your litle girl, I really know how this must be ripping you apart. My son really wanted to go to camp shane and I said if I sort it out I need some commitment off you. Since I booked he's dropped 20llbs, maybe you could try the same with your daughter. Did you say she was 17, why don't you suggest if she drops 20/30 llbs you'll look at the band for when she's say 18. You never know if she's on her way she may chose not to have it. Let her see the operation performed and give her all the information, let and go and taslk to the doctors. Alot of people , say they have to work with the band and it's not a magic cure. The clinic I have been to is very helpful, I'm in Canada and I went to the TLCB the clinic provides along with the sugery a nutritionalist, and phscologist the doctor there say';s it all goes hand in hand. Try and find a cliinc near you that really deals with the whole issue, a good clinic will tell you the truth about the band and she may see it's not magic. Whats the wrost thing that can happen! the band doesn't work for her! all the best let me know how she gets on. Jx
  4. My son too is heavy, he is 14 weighing in at 220llb. It has been nearly as painful for me as for him, as I remember my childhood and have to re live it with him. It has also caused major problems, as I try to help him not to eat.....I know it's a joke, blind leading the blind. I have booked him into camp shane (Summer Weight Loss Camps Lose Weight Get Fit | Relax Camp Shane is Not a Teen "Fat Camp") this summer for 9 weeks it's a special weight loss camp for kids, it's not cheap but, I took a part time job to pay for it. By the way it looks amazing, and he really wants to go. I only hope this helps him, if it doesn't, then, you;re dam right I'll get him the band. I am NOT having my child suffer the way I did, no sir! If the kid needed glasses I'd get them for him or hearing aids. If there is something out there to help him, then he's having it that's my job I'm his mother. My husband did not agree with the camp shane, said it would label him! Oh please, like kids at school don't! Anyway, I got a job, put the deposit down and he leaves on the 20th June for 9 weeks. I am going to miss him so very much but if there is an oportunity out there for him I'll do anything to get it for him and will continue to do so, I'm pro bands for teens! Jx

    What band to have?

My Goodness, I can't believe how much info I've got from this forum. What I'm wanting to know is what band I should have. I thought I was tough choosing shoes and a purse to match!!!!!! I've heard that the AP band is the new black...... Also, I've read that a lot of people have their bands removed because of slippage, what causes this appart from vomiting. I love my exercise and can really move it for a big girl, sikking both water and snow, power walking, cycling and I've been know to play the odd game of soccer!!!!!!!! Will these make my band slip? all advice welcome. Jx:omg:

    ....scared.....

All I can say is thank you!!! You have no idea how some of you in what you have written has touched me, you're all me, I'm not alone and I'm not a bad person. Bc I use food for just about everything in my life I've felt unworthy and greedy, unclean. I'm terrified that when I'm banded on the 15th it won't work for me, I'm terrified I'll just carry on eating right through it. I just want to be normal. Thanks Jx
  11. Sandy, 5llbs off in a month is brilliant, If you only lost that every month you'd still be doing reaslly well. I know it's hard but it's coming off not on that going in the right direction. I'm a pre bander and I'm going in the other direction rapidly the llbs are just going on! Hope this helps you to see the glass if half full! Jx

    port in the bikini area

I'm being banded on the 15th and I am having the port put in the bikini area. Well it's not that low, it's just above my hip bone on the left. Dr Yau said there is no problem with it there, the only worry he has it about keeping it clean. I guess he means whilst healing. Why am I having it there? because I'm going to be wearing a bikin this time next summer....... You better belive it!

    Im so happy

FANSTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i bet your walking on air........
  14. I'm with Susannah on this one! Things happen to people and sometimes choices have to be made that are not nice or happy ones. I have never had an abortion but, say my little girl was raped and fell pregnant then I would almost certainly consider it. The world is made up of different people with differnt views on things. I don't go to church never have never will. I believe in something, I don't put a name to it, just believe it's nice to be nice to people and i bring my children up to give respect to others and what they belive in, to treat people how they would like to be treated themselves. If you want t call it God, Ala, Budda or whatever thats fine by me,. Hey why don't we all just try to get along and stop judging people for things that we have no business with. If your on this site your probably overweight, I am, I know what it's like to be judged I certainly don't want to do that to anyone else! Lecture over!

    Protein shakes

Whey gourmet PVL, you can pick it up at any health food store. Theu have milk choc flavor and smooth peanut butter choc which I really like. No need for a blender the store usually give you a free shaker cup with it the price approx $39 for 2llbs. I know all about protien shakes as I went on them when I tried the "lets have a Nutritionalist diet".. I've even seen this brand at wallmart. Jx

    The low point

Read your post, and feel for you so much. My closet like yours is a very horrid place for me right now, just hate myself. I'm new to this site and please don't be offended but why did you have your band removed? I've booked to have a band fitted on the 15th June and I was told it was for life. I really hope you manage to get things sorted, the best of luck X

Hi, Where is the best place to get banded I live in Toronto
  24. Hi, First I'd like to apoligise for messing up my first posting "banding in Toronto" I must have posted it 67 times!!! But I'm new to the forum and not the best when it comes to IT or spelling as I'm sure you'll get to find out. I was clicking around on my computer at 4am this morning and came across this forum. It's great, I can't believe how much info I've got already. I can now throw the terms port and slipping around like I actually know what I'm talking about! I'm from the UK but moved to Toronto 4 years ago, I immediatly got on to the Canadian lap band section and felt very much at home and comfy here!!! I went for my first appointment at the TLBC today and hope to get the ball rolling. I've very scared and worried, I just have a feeling Yes, but it won't work for me, nothing ever has! So hearing all your stories it very reasuring. Anyway I'm going to become a regular and I'll let you know how I get on. Jane X
