    big fills vs. little fills

Hey guys, I went for my first fill last week. I was 6 weeks post op, i was able to eat most things by this time. I have a AP band that holds 9cc, I had 5cc put in. I had to drink water before I left and as I didn't know what tight felt like I decribe a lump in my chest, the clinic advised me to have 1cc taken out, which I did. So I happily trotted off home with 4cc in my band!!!!!! The next 24 hours where the worst of my life....... Basically I ate a protien bar on day 2 and got a blockage from hell! I ate it at 3.30pm. Within minutes of eating the bar I knew I was in trouble, I felt like I was having a heart attack. Within 30 minutes I was having reflux and slime everywhere, then I started throwing up. I carried on with pain and throwing up for 6 hours. I did phone my clinic and they explained I was experiencing a blockage. I had my coat on and was off to the hospital by 11pm when I last threw up and the pain slightly eased off, I then fell asleep! The next day I was up for 6am feeling better and set off straight to my clinic where I defilled to 1.5cc. The relieve was immediate, I'm on the side of slow but sure. I'm now experiencing very slight restriction but I'm happy with that. I never ever want to go through that again. I was just too restricted. I'm booked into my clinic on the 14th for my next fill which I'll hqave but I'm going to ask for just 1cc extra, slow and steady for me!
  2. Oh believe me you'll notice a big difference when you get filled! I went for my first fill last week, after 6 weeks, before I went in for my fill I could eat just about everything. Got home and the next day I got a blockage from not eating slowly enough and chewing enough! It was horrible and I nearly ended up in ER! I went for a defill the next day and I'm now ok. Good luck with your band! The first 6 weeks are for healing!

    Post your worst symptom here!!!!!

without doubt a blockage. After my fill ( that turned ut way to tight fro my) I ate a protien bar to fast, not chewed enough and boy oh boy!!!!! I wss in pain like never before and threw up for 6 hours! which led to a inflamed tummy. Next day had my band unfilled to 1.5cc and since then I've been fine! Please once filled beware!!!! eat slowly and chew...... I'd got used to eating normally again after the op and before my first fill. I just didn't give my fill enough respect.
  4. I got my first fill 6 weeks post op and I like many other would have loved it sooner! By god I'm glad I didn't. After my fill I came home and on the second day ate something that got stuck, which I'd heard about. I was in inmence pain and threw up non stop for 6 hours! I've been back to my clinic and all is well now, but I'm so glad I didn't have that experience on a 2 week old operation. At least I gave my body time to heal and I would have dreaded to think what dammage I could have done other wise! You sound like you have a very sensible doctor. Just remember when you get a fill, it is totally different, to just having the band, please please learn from my horrible mistake, small bites, CHEW!!!!! and slow down for goddness sake. I wouldn't want anyone to go what I went through. All the best X

    Life before fills!!!!

I'm 5 weeks post op, my Dortor will not fill before 6 weeks. I'm on solids but am starving hungry. They say to eat a cup full or so of food per meal, are they insane! I can more or less eat a regular meal, not as much as I could before granted but I can eat! Is this normal to be able to eat so much. I lost a ton of weight pre and post op and guess what it's all starting to come back on.

    Did YOU Start Solids Early???

I'm so glad that someone did this post! I've actually been avoiding the forum out of guilt of starting on solids early!!!! Yes, I did it! Please god don't strike me down. I was careful with what I ate and so far no problems apart from the fact that 'm 5 weeks post op now and have totally found my appetite back, 1 cupful of food, me thinks not!!!!!!! I obviously lie awake at night thinking I've stretched my pouch or am about to undego a slipped band at any second. Would I start solids again early! It's a bit like unprotected sex, you just get carried away but wish to god you hadn't. Is there any banders out there who started solids early and have never had problems? Also, is it normal to be this starving? Jx

    Needing some advice!

Okay, I'm scared now!!!! I just started on solid food and am right back up there with portion sizes. can't seem to control what I eat and sometimes my tummy hurts a little, I feel I've eaten too much! Oh God have I stretch my pouch or ripped my stiches. I have so tried to not overeat, did great today! Any advice would really help. The first 3 weeks I felt so in control and full and satified. Jx

    ??? What about eating out?

I went out for dinner tonight, ordered grilled chicken salad, with goats cheese!!!! The 6/7 mounthfuls I ate were yummy! I try and get my protien in first. Hardest thing I find is when the food is so yummy, you really have to monitor how full you are, so eat SLOWLY. If you over eat you know about it! Everyone is different I believe but, me it hurts like hell!

  12. The pain lasted for 3 days then I went to bed one day and the next day it was gone. Feel great now. I didn't call my doctor as I was away, but I will mention it to him on my follow up visit.
  13. Hi, I'm 3 weeks post op and doing great, ate to much egg the other day and felt like a I had a stitch :guess (like, you get from to much exercise) in my tummy area for while but later on felt great. 2 days later went to bed and when I got up i felt like I had a stitch sentation near my tummy button area left hand side near one of my incision sites. It's not very painful but I can most certianly feel it, not so much when I'm still just when I move. I'm visiting relatives in the UK and now I'm terrified I've slipped, pulled or broken the whole dam thing :whoo:. Has anyone else experience this sensation? If so what was it? did it go away? HELP!!!!:help:

Would you give them a chance again?

Yes I would! Lets face it, the first thing is attraction. I know the first time i saw my hubby I fancied the pants off him! Now I know him, I don't care what he looks like because I know him and love him for himself. But, at first if I hadn't found him yummy I wouldn't have been drawn to him romantically. I would give them a second chance, they're only human! As for being the same person that you were before, well, are you? You're now more confiden, have more self worth......All those things alone are very attractive qualities! How do you know it's not those things that are'nt shining though in you? Good luck in your choice whatever you decide jX

    Port Location

I was banded by Dr Yau on the 15th June 07, I have mine in the bikini. I love it there. Dr Yau, makes the suggestion and you can have a prefference but if he decides it's not right for you on the day he will advise against it, that was my understanding! Hey! good luck with the op, it will change your life. Jx

    What is a full feeling

I'm on the mush stage and yesterday I went for Breakfast at a restaurant, couldn't get out of it. Up came my scrambled eggs the size of Ontario, well, you guessed it I over ate. I didn't manage to much but I felt terrible for a few hours after, I had a stich in my side and now I feel I've messed myself up. I felt fine later and do now I went very easy for the rest of the day. Do you think I will have caused any trouble? I'm feeling so P****ed off with myself. Jx
  17. I think any big change is scarey!!! Lets face it food is our shield, even when you're ona diet you can break it and stuff your face if the need arises. I feel Oh Holy, I physically can't do that anymore. Also, do you know what emotion I've been feeling. I won't have this problem to blame anything on, what will I beable to be depressed about? I'll have had my sole destroying problem removed so now what? I actually thought about what other issue I could focus on! when you're fat you don't feel worthy of happiness, but with that removed it means I can be happy, now that really is scarey. But guess what, your allowed to be happy, healthy and slim. I so understand what you're going through but once you accept that life is going to be great and you're allowed a piece of it you'll be grate. It's just for so long you've felt your not worthy of that. Jx
  18. Hi, I was banded 10 days ago, I had the exact same problem you have. What happened with me was on about the 5th day I managed a burp, of course announcing it to the whole family at this stage, as EVERYONE knew I COULDN"T BURP. What has happened to me over the last few days is as i've got stronger an my body has healded I've began to burp! I know it's uncomfy but don't worry I think you'll start to burp again. I got the sensation that the burp went back down in a swallow full of gas at first. Hope this helps. Jx

Foood...*sad face* tips for full fluid

Hi Consafo, I'm 1 day your juniour and I'm finding the full fluids ok, I'm really enjoying the soups. I must admit I have had on odd slightly lumpy soup. Got caught on a road trip and Tim Hortons soup was a bit lumpy, mashed it to bits before it went down. I problably do have more than half a cup but nothing in quantity that I feel is excess. I am actually worrying that I may not be getting enough calories, how totally weird is that. I tend to have a cup of protien shake made with milk an yorgurt in the morning, maybe a milky coffee mid morning, then a cup of soup and fruit juice for lunch and similar for supper. I'm totally full after each meal, stuffed, it's amazing. Do you get full when you've had your meals, if not have a little more. Have you taken your strips off yet, I thank you for saving me the mishap of removing mine 3 days post op! Mine are off now and I swear I can barely see the cuts, nice one Dr Yau! Hope your feeling a little fuller. Jx

    It just amazes me

I am 8 day post op, the 1st 2 days I would have ripped that band right out, I was in pain , I felt sick, horrid! But the last 4 or 5 days have been fantastic. I feel hungry, I eat a small amount, I feel full I then live my life. I don't spend my whole time, planning what I want to eat, denying what I want to eat, thinking about what I want to eat. I crieded last night because I couldn't believe how much of my time I spent at war with food and myself, DENY, DENY, DENY, followed by GIVE IN, GIVE IN, followed by G-U-I-L-T.......... Now listen guys I know I';m a really novice at this but if this is bandland, all I can say is my life wll be changed. I feel like the beast in me the horrible part of me that I tried so hard for so long to tame has at last been captured and put behind bars, I only hope and pray that this is how my life with the band continues. I can now at last get on and life my life. Jx
