  1. Who's not taking responsibility for their weight? Why are you even on this site? Maybe someone will leak this to your husband so he can see how you truly feel about WLS patients. Your extremely disrespectful and rude. It seems like you don't have much going on in your world that you need to keep coming on a WLS site and try pushing everyone's buttons. Again, what you see as blunt and honest I see as tiresome and redundant. I'll report you if you continue to insult all of us. It's mean and unnecessary. You are offering absolutely NO support or anything constructive.

    Hernias

You probably have IBS. It causes all those symptoms. There's no test for it they basically diagnose you with it by ruling other stuff out. I've had it since I was 12.

    I hate this

I am 3 weeks out and it does get easier. You also have to remember that you chose this and everyone else is not going to completely change their eating habits because of your choice. It would be great if everyone was sensitive to your situation, but unfortunately they aren't going to. Relax and just concentrate on staying hydrated at this point.
  4. I'm not as far out as you so I don't necessarily know how much I will be able to eat. Right now I am 3 weeks out and i'm lucky to get 300-400 calories/day. You just have to really pay attention to calories. Sometimes the higher the protein could mean higher the calories. Sometimes I'll eat hard boiled eggs and only eat the egg whites. Also I buy the sargento light string cheese and it's only 50 calories per stick.

    Ouch! Stinging Pain!

At 2 weeks post-op I started getting a burning pain at my largest incision and nurse said it was nerve pain. I started on Gabapentin and it went away. The Gabapentin causes blurred vision so I can't take it during the day because I'm back to work. I take it every night and on weekends. During the day the pain comes back.

    Sleeved 3/19

I was sleeved on 3-20 and I find I can drink water now with lemon slices added to it. I don't care for the crystal lights or other additives for the water anymore.

    Recovery questions

My recovery was much harder than I anticipated. I expected that since this is done laporscopicly it would be easy (I've had 2 other lap procedures in the past and there was nothing to them). This wasn't easy for me and it made me frustrated. I ended up staying an extra day in hospital because I literally couldn't swallow even a sip without burning chest pain-this caused severe nausea and caused my heart rate to drop into the 30's twice which necessitated EKGs to be done both times. I have never needed pain meds for other surgeries (just Tylenol) and I've had 5 other surgeries, but I took pain meds for 10 days with the sleeve. All I read about was everyone saying it was easy, but for me it wasn't (and I have a high threshold for pain) and I ended up feeling frustrated and kept thinking what is wrong with me? I'm not trying to scare you, I just think you should be prepared in case it isn't easy.

    Lap incision

My largest incision hurts and started "burning" when I was 2 weeks out. The incision itself is healed nicely so I knew it wasn't an infection. I called my doctor and they said it is most likely nerve pain. I was prescribed a medication and it went away. The only thing is I can't take the medication during the week because I can't drive while on it (it gives me real bad blurred vision and makes me slightly dizzy). So sure enough the burning sensation returned while I was at work this morning!

    VSG POST C SECTION

I had a c-section 5 years ago and was sleeved on 3-20. I'm curious to know about this, too. I plan on exercising as soon as I can so hopefully I can tone up this flabby stomach skin!

    Anti-depressants?

I still take them. I got them in a liquid form for when I first had surgery, but I can swallow the pills just fine. (I take Zoloft)

    It's Happening! :)

Good luck! I was sleeved on 3-20 and am still adjusting to everything. I have no regrets though!

I was also very pleased with Loyola hospital, too. They are extremely efficient and everything went as scheduled. I was scheduled for 8:30 surgery and had to be there by 6:30 and I think I was wheeled back at 8:32! They give you medication to calm your nerves which helped a lot!

    Anti-depressants?

I've been on an antidepressant for years and it didn't affect my approval at all. The therapist that conducted my psych evaluation just contacted my psychiatrist. Believe it or not as a teenager I also struggled with an eating disorder and that didn't pose a problem either. (Obviously I am cured from that!)

You can eat reduced fat cheddar cheese. My surgeon cleared me for soft foods and cheese. I buy the individually wrapped cheese sticks made by Sargento. Eat it slowly and chew well. I can almost eat the whole stick if I eat it slow-otherwise my dog eats the rest! My pup is loving the

    To Tell Or Not Tell

I was sleeved on 3-20 and only told my mom, husband and my boss. Now that I've returned to work I don't mind telling people. I just didn't want to deal with people's negative attitudes before surgery. Afterwards no one's going to say negative comments (at least not to your face) and honestly now that it's done even if someone had negative things to say it doesn't bother me. I know after going through this whole experience that this is the most difficult process I've ever gone through. The hardest part is re-learning how to eat. I dare someone to make a comment to me about this being the "easy way out"! It's a personal choice and I don't blame you for wanting to keep it to yourself. It's not like we went and told everyone before we ate a box of donuts!
  18. This has just happened to me, too. My surgeon said it is most likely nerve pain and prescribed a medication to help with nerve pain called Gabapentin. I was sleeved 16 days ago and it just started hurting/burning sensation yesterday.

I actually haven't weighed myself in a few days but last week I was down 14 pounds, but it was really more like 19 pounds because I gained 5 pounds in the hospital with all of the fluids. When you wake up the catheter is still in and it stays in until after you have your leak test done the next morning. You don't feel it and it is completely painless to have removed. Once it is removed you get up about every 30 minutes to go to the bathroom so enjoy the time that it is in and you can stay in bed! I ended up having to spend an extra night in the hospital because I couldn't swallow anything. I also had a hiatal hernia repaired and had a lot of inflammation. When I would get up to go to the bathroom I would walk the hallways to avoid blood clots and you are given a shot of blood thinners every 12 hours. You don't get much rest in the hospital and I couldn't wait to go home! I also had an allergic reaction to the skin glue that Dr. Chand used during surgery which wasn't very fun, but it has gone away now. You can ask me anything, I don't mind. I returned to work on Monday which was a mistake-take as much time off as you can. I ended up doing just half days this week, but I'm still exhausted!

    Too soon to go back?

I was sleeved on 3-20 and returned to work on 4-1 and it was too soon. I ended up just doing half days for the first week and plan on returning for regular days starting on Monday. I was very tired.

I had my surgery on 3-20 and was very happy with Dr. Chand. I would definitely recommend him. I really like the fact that Dr. Chand does not use drains post-surgery. Good luck with getting your approval!
  22. I am 2 weeks post-op and was starting to feel better (pain-wise) but the today my largest incision started to hurt more and I have a burning sensation. The incision itself looks fine-it's closed up and no drainage of any kind. Anyone else experience this? Is it just nerves and part of the healing process?
  23. Is there anyone else who can not stomach the protein shakes/drinks? I am lactose intolerant and even the shakes that claim to be lactose or milk free still contain some. In fact whey protein is derived from milk protein. So when I say I can't stomach the shakes I mean that literally. I get horrible diarrhea which then I worry is going to dehydrate me. I am 2 weeks out and am allowed soft foods. I've been eating a lot of eggs and light string cheese for the protein. (For some reason my body can handle cheese, but milk, ice cream or yogurt makes me very sick!) Has anyone else had this issue?
