Hello everyone, I am just starting with the process of Weight Loss Surgery and am in need of some info from those who have had surgery so that I know I am on the right track and not doing things backwards (which I've been known to do) I have spoke to my insurance and found out that they do cover WLS. Two weeks ago I called and registered with the department that manages Bariatric surgery and was told that I would be contacted by a Nurse who will be my case manager thru my procedure. I have done a lot of researching and reading about the different surgeries and have decided that the sleeve is what I want. My husband had the Gastric Bypass done 10 years ago and had some issues they had to cut him open and now he has double hernia, he's now lactose intolerant and experiences dumping syndrome quite often. However my best friend also had the bypass almost 3 years ago and has had no problems except not absorbing the vitamins properly. She now says if she would have known more about the Sleeve she probably would have done it instead of the Bypass. My questions for all of you who have been thru this how did the process go for you? I have United Health Care Insurance and I have not been contacted by my Nurse case manager yet. How long is too long of a wait? Also I am only seeing a primary doctor & my Rhuematoligist at this point, is my primary doctor the one who starts this process with me or will I have to go to a Bariatric type Dr.? I know I have to do 6 months of weight loss dieting and keeping track of what I've done and have a Dr. sign off on it. But I'm unclear if the Dr. I see now is the one who does it. Also what is the Psych Evaluation all about? I have not been able to find out very much info on that. Sorry this is long winded but I'm excited to get the process started and want to do everything right the 1st time so it doesn't take FOREVER to happen. I'm hoping that you guys can help me out and keep me on the right track. Thank you in advance for all your help.

tjmom, that is truly amazing. I have just started on my weight loss journey, just got enrolled in the weight loss program thru my insurance & haven't yet had my 1st Dr apt. But reading your story has made me very excited and hopeful, you are such a positive role model and a motivation for me. I defiantly want to keep up with your success, please keep us posted and again congrats way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :}

I haven't had surgery yet, actually just got enrolled with the weight loss thing thru my insurance & am waiting for the nurse in charge of my case to call me for an apt. But I have talked to many people about portion size & how will I know how much is too much before I eat it & one of my customers had the Sleeve done in TJ,Mexico in December 2011 and she told me she went out and bought toddler dived plates and uses toddler silverware and she said it has helped her so much. When she would go to others houses or restaurant's for dinner she would eat too much and be miserable later so she now takes her plates with her. I thought this was a very good idea. I hope this will help others also.

Thank you for sharing this. What did you order and how did you like it? I am just starting my journey, just made the phone call to my Insurance company and enrolling in the Weight loss program thru them. I am waiting for the Case Nurse to contact me.

I am so sorry to hear about what happened to you. My heart goes out to you, as I am just now starting the process. I just got enrolled into the Bariatric Program thru my insurance, I haven't been contacted by the Nurse who will be in charge of my case so I don't even know what to expect yet but I know that would be a hard thing to hear. I do however believe that everything happens for a reason and maybe he wasn't the surgeon that God had planned for you. I will keep you in my prayers and I hope you get thru this with no other hiccups.

I was having a problem with protien shakes also when I was trying to lose weight, but I found one that I actually like. I'm not normally a"vanilla or chocolate" person but I found that EAS has a chocolate fudge drink thats really good it has only a few carbs 1g of sugar and more protien than slot of the nasty tasting shakes. I get mind st my local Sams club and they are very affordable. Its worth a try. Good luck in your venture :}
