Soli3l got a reaction from Kathy812 in Hypothyroidism & Diabetes
    Hi Mammysm -Donna:
I got my sleeve revision with a new surgeon, finally my sleeve is the correct size. I'm following a high Protein low carb diet. In 3 months have lost 40 lbs. I currently eat 500 - 800 calories, 25 - 50g carbs, 80g+ of Protein, 64 oz of Water and exercise. Bariatriceating.com also on Facebook has taught me a lot has been the icing on the cake. Hope this helps. Thanks SoLiel

This message is for Soli31, I have read your posts and would really like to talk with you, because your circumstances sounds exactly like mine right now. I had the Lapband, had it removed, got the sleeve, very little weight loss, looks like it is too big, the pouch, hoping it can be revised, dr and I are discussing it. Please email me or Facebook me. DonnaRobbinsSmith or Mammysm@aol.com would really like to talk if you don't mind. Had upper GI so far, and the Endoscopy yesterday. Thx. Donna

Yes I have. And I never stopped seeing my nutritionist. The food gets stuck in the area that didn't get cut. So my stomach stretches. I've used the app and log my food for my nutritionist to see/analyze.

Endoscopy confirmed the doctor's suspicion...I have a big sleeve, it's also dilated w/ a bulge, he said it's not my fault, but it could be revised...now the waiting begins.

You can buy health insurance without utilizing healthcare marketplace. You can go the route of private insurance brokers. Please note, there isn't much of a difference between what you find in the marketplace and what you get from a private broker.
    Good luck.

New hope again for me. I went to see my new surgeon, I explained my history and the amount of weight lost. I am scheduled for an endoscopy the last week of August to see if he will need to redo my sleeve. Since I had a lap band prior to sleeve, it stretches the top of the stomach leaving like a handle on each side, when it is converted to a sleeve, sometimes the surgeon leaves it too big, causing technical failure. With the endoscopy he will see what is wrong with my sleeve. The staff is so nice...and the object of the nutritionist is to get me off my diabetes medication and for my weight to drop within 6 months. I am more excited of getting off my diabetes medication as I have family members that have died due to this illness. So I am excited and no longer feel like a failure. Woot!! Woot!

I don't know any current U.S. pricing, but as of last spring, my bariatric surgeon in Mexico was advertising revision surgery starting at $7200. Hopefully that gives you some kind of idea.

Wow...thank you so much for your insight, I am aware that WLS does not do anything for thyroid problems, I am diabetic and the surgery didn't help that either. However, I never thought about this way, but your soo right..."I’ve learned that your rate of success is not determined by the size of your sleeve or even choice of procedure. The quantity of food you eat is not near as important as the actual food choice. " I will also look at the videos you posted they sound great.

Here are some points made by Dr. Weiner in his revision video:
    1. Conversion from sleeve to bypass: only 10-25 pound weight loss, usually reserved for patients with severe acid reflex
    2. Gastric Band over sleeve is experimental
    3. Skilled surgeons can convert sleeve to duodenal switch, if you choose this route please research the surgeon carefully and make sure he has performed this kind of revision successfully for a large number of patients
    4. Some surgeons can switch from sleeve to SADI, but is not done often in US yet (refer to video for more details)

Well said, @WLWarrior and congrats to you on your honking weight loss!
Yes, it ultimately comes down to the new lifestyle we build after WLS and the choices we make.
Right now, I'm happy to be finding my way during early maintenance. Continuing to plan my meals and track all my food / drink intake is part of my new lifestyle that works very well for me.
Thus far, I'm fortunate to be able to eat some sugar, alcohol, Pasta, and bread. I don't eat them every day, and so far they haven't turned into trigger foods. But if they were to start causing me problems, I hope I'd have the fortitude to hold myself accountable and avoid them altogether.
I no longer wish to choose foods and drink only on the basis of its temporary taste appeal. I want to eat and drink MOSTLY those things that nourish my body. I had this surgery to become healthier and stronger and to improve my life.
Those here who are further out post-op than me say maintenance requirements can continue to change, so I'm not blind to the fact that our WLS challenges will continue for the rest of our lives. I know that I will probably always need to adapt what I'm doing to remain healthy.
For now, I say, "Bring it on!"
