Menstrual Cycles and the Lap Band
Maybe my symptoms are psycho somatic but I think when I am bloated, I can't eat, I KNOW when my period is coming because I begin to vomit violently any and everything. Even if I eat a few chips, my vomit will overwhelm them and I will vomit them up with a ton of saliva. I will still have the normal 5 lbs of fluid retention, but afterward I will lose it and feel fine. Does anyone have this problem too?:rolleyes2::rolleyes3:

Be Honest, ARE YOU HAPPIER??
YES I'm happier, I am sorry to say this but, if you have lost only 2 lbs after a year, then you may be eating refined sugars and things that are easy that slip thru the band, chocolate candy bars, hard candy, cakes, Cookies, chips, pudding, shakes, those things are so easy to eat, believe you me, I know because I did not lose weight until I left that stuff alone and started focusing on what I should be doing. I am not in any way being judgmental I know how hard it is I was 5 feet tall 290+ lbs. I did not lose any weight for at least 3 months after my band, in fact I started to gain weight. I was in denial and I knew how to get full regardless of the band. Now I love it and I am doing what I have to do. It's a tool. Not a quick fix, it's just something to help us. Maybe you need gastric bypass or a sleeve. There are other Bariatric Opttions. Good luck! Keep your head up!

When did the weight begin to come off?
My weight started to come off when I got my 3rd fill at 7cc and started working out so around the first of the year of 2008. I had my surgery July 2007 and it was very slow then I did what the doctor said and started working out, walking, every chance I got, and actually eating right. At first I was so hungry, I would eat chips and candy to fill up and I wasn't losing any weight. I would pretend I didn't know why but to be honest, refined sugars slip through. It's hard for me to digest Proteins, chicken, fish and beef. I usually throw them up. It feel like they sit in front of the band and never digest. Different people lose weight differently. I know some people that took diet pills I feel like I already have a diet pill. The surgery. So I am going to continue to work with that. Good luck Nyoki

I so tired of everyone saying lssing weight wont make you happy.
I am so happy where I am, I don't feel like the 800 lb gorilla in the room anymore. People that used to say 'Ol fat ass', well, I am smaller than they are now and I don't hear that anymore. Neither do I gloat because I know that when I was dieting and preparing for my surgery and miserable, they were eating, fattening foods, chips, soda, candy bars, and at restaurants eating chicken, burgers, doughnuts, pizza. I stuck to what I had to do. It's amazing, the people that were adorning them with compliments and overlooked me as if I didn't exist all of a sudden by osmosis are overlooking them and noticing me. I say nothing but know that I am that same 'fat' girl that you dissed at the club that sat all night, holding the coats and purses. HELL yeah I am happier, my waistline is now a 34 from a 51. I went from a 24-26 to a now 14 - 16 depending on the clothing. I can't begin to tell you how good I feel. My ex's girlfriend posted a whole myspace page devoted to me because she once was my friend and started dating my husband. Before she knew I lost weight, she had the caption on this page, 'Everybody knows she's a fat ass that is bigger than me!!!' I put my new pictures upon my myspace page. She has to be hitting 375 lbs while I am more than a hundred lbs slimmer than she is. I feel great! My ex was abusive mentally and physically and that was the reason I was nearly 300 lbs. I feel so good, I started modeling again and let go of the comfort of using the phrase BBW.

What is this pain?
I have found that my back hurts when there is undigested food above the band (I think) It's just sitting there, not moving, I have vomitted hours later and felt better. I don't know what it is but the pain is dull and in the center, by my spine. A couple of nights I have had to get up, walk, drink water to overfill in order to vomit what has packed down and I have felt instantly better! I don't know if this is a solution but this has helped me tremendously.

Oprah Show today
LMAO! I really LOVE you Fox, you took the words right outta my mouth! I totally understand, we could only wish about the $$$ Oprah has, I don't think she understands the fact that if she (and Star) came out and told the damn truth, we could care less. Maybe long for the $$$ to do the shit too, but we really wouldn't care more or less. At least they lost the weight, who gives a damn about how you did it? Hi 5 Fox, Coincidentally, I was sippin' on some Boone's Farm $1.99 Peach wine myself! lolololmao

Please HELP!
I am filled at 7.5, my first fill was 4cc. It's awful the first couple of days, then the vomiting is violent. Now it's been a good 3 months and I am proud that I've gotten used to it and I love this fill. It keeps me disciplined. I have lost 63 lbs since July 07. I swear if you hang in there, your brain and body adjusts, but then everyone is different because I don't know if I could've stood having the gastric bypass. But, I am now eating very small amounts off food almost peanut sized bites. More frequently though. No eating AND drinking, and lots of working out. Chewing sugar free gum helps, eating sugar free candy helps too. Good Luck

Oprah Show today
lol Fox, I know...IF it was that easy EVERYONE would be just dieting and exercising. I'm thinking, just like Star Jones Reynolds, she just didn't want to admit to getting short cuts. AND Fox, where the hell did this 'thyroid' problem come from she claims to have? Where was it all the time? She is getting fat again and those old habits are creeping up. Crapola Oprah, people with thyroid problems still exercise. She is just getting lazy and needs to tell the people something.

Oprah Show today
Have you all ever heard believe half of what you see and NONE of what you hear? Do you think Oprah lost all the weight she did with just plain ol' diet and exercise? No tummy tuck, no lipo, no nose job, no hair weave? No skin hanging or cut etc, etc, etc, ....no boob job? Look at her from the Color Purple and look at her now. Some of those people had surgeries, if it is hard for us as patients with some kind of help, I am not buying it. We have to work out WITH the lap-band. I just think that all that glitters isn't gold, I work my butt off at the gym I've had the band for 5 months and I have went from 283 to 220. I have had 2 fills, but I work out if not every day, at least 5 times a week for at least an hour and a half and I still have flab and skin beginning to sag no matter what. I have this awful pouch from my 4 children that won't go away and it's very difficult to see some of the people that are on t.v. acting like "oh, all I did was diet and exercised and VOILA". I am happy for anyone that took back their life whether it is by surgery, or diet and exercise or lipo or tummy tucks. I'm just sayin' Be 4 REAL!

I am a slow loser
:bored:faint::tired:notagreeI've been reading other peoples' posts about their accomplishments and I wonder how long it's going to take me to get where I want to be, of course I'm sure a year or more, but it is inspirational to see those that have lost 60, 80 and 100 lbs. I want to wear a size 9. I don't want to be over 200 lbs anymore. I work at it. I can't wait til this summer. So far I have went from 283lbs to 240 lbs. I want to lose more.:heh:

Slow Losers - Unite!
I think counting the calories is what I will do also with no snacking, because even with restriction, I hear stories that are wonderful of people losing left and right and I am inchworming along. EVEN with excercise. I was wondering, if I did half liquid diet and half regular diet, 1 day on and off, would that work, like the shock treatment to the system?

Slow Losers - Unite!
Hi, I would like to be a part of the slow losers society. The scale at the clinic says I weigh 273 I got banded in July of this year and I have went from a size 24W to a size 18. My starting weight was 283 when I went in for surgery. Something isn't adding up because I have had my second fill from 4cc to 7.5cc. I can only eat about a cup of food at a time. I work out religiously at the gym, cardio on the treadmill and eliptical trainer and I have a weight trainer. I drink water and at the gym the scale says I weigh 240. My scale at home says 240 and I am determined to take my scale to the doctor's office to show them the difference in my scale and theirs. I have NEVER seemed to lose weight when I go in. They make me feel bad and ask me what am I doing and to make a food diary. I SWEAR I am really doing everything. My face is skinnier now, my arms are flabby and I am starting to tone my thighs well. I work out 4-5 times a week. I also walk more places, take the bus and sit and do the arm weight thing while watching tv. For the people that don't know be but have seen me before, they compliment me and ask me what am I doing and say I look great. I can even fit some size 16 clothing. Am I just losing inches? What can I do to burn more? What's wrong? any input? Because I really don't know what I weigh. Nya

Newly Banded 7-12-2007
Hey Gwhite, How is it going now that you've been banded, how do you sleep, how do you feel? Are you getting fuller faster? How did you get your ticker on your posts? My posting rules says I can't post html

Newly Banded 7-12-2007
Hi Kathy! No, I didn't experience any discomfort at all. Maybe it depends on the person. The only thing I can say that was uncomfortable was the not eating for 24 hours after surgery and then being given broth, Jello, tea, Water and popsicles for my first meal. I had the urge to chew so badly. But I stuck it out. Now I am on mushies. It's uncomfortable trying to sleep because the pain is awful as with any surgery, but it's worth it. I am really looking forward to losing weight. Good luck and keep your head up Kat!

7/17/2007 - Tuesday
I'm really sticking to what I have to do. This feels great, I can't wait to see how I will transform. It's been a long time since I felt good about myself and I hope this will make me motivated to pursue my long term goals. It's funny how some people are born with great genes like my beautiful sister, she is tall, thin and can eat anything she wants. She encourages me and everyone in the family always talks about how beautiful I am but I hate being fat. I hate being short, I hated being me and I did a lot of things to hide how unhappy I was. I am growing, learning and learning to love me inside and outside. I love me.:cheer2::scared:

Really scared
LOL, Soaf, I did not lose any weight until the 2 days before my surgery. I have this stubborn body. I lost 3 lbs the day of the surgery at the weigh in before they wheeled me in. Don't worry, you did better than me. Congrats on the 5 lbs!
-
Really scared
Sorry for the late response, yes, my doctor told me to follow a liquid diet for 2 weeks, it was so hard, every day towards my date I would say, "ok tomorrow for sure, I didn't really follow it til tuesday..I didn't eat anything, I sipped Water, broth and ate tilapia steamed with a half cup of mushroom Soup everytime I got hungry. I was told not to eat or drink anything after midnight the day of the surgery. It worked out ok. Have you been banded already?
-
Really scared
Congrats on being banded, 4 cashews isn't that bad, I ate a small salad. I was banded last Thursday the 12th, it feels good.
-
Really scared
Don't be scared, I read some posts where some were saying they didn't have a liquid diet to be banded. I didn't follow it thoroughly either, the last 2 days I did. Everything worked out fine, maybe you should tell your doctor. :ranger:
