    Wedding 11 days post op....?

Im currently on day 6 since surgery. I had a textbook surgery and now recovery...so far. I had a big day yesterday with a doctor appointment, about 45 min away and a short grocery stop and felt no tiredness. It was the first time i had put on tight fitting pants and a bra but did ok. I will still be on clear fluids by day 11. Based on the way i feel now, i would expect to feel fine for a wedding, but would still need to guard against dehydration. I would take shakes, isopure and g2. I think you will find that just keeping fluids at goal level and keeping protein high and carbs high enough for clear thinking and energy will still be a challenge. Take the time to really rest, heal and learn to manage your intake needs before the wedding and keep the food part for wedding day simple. Keep some bottle of fluid in your hand all that day. Thats my best advise on how i currently feel. You will do fine if you prepare. Have a wonderful day. Ps... I love the shakes but they do make your mouth yucky so a clear protein might work better... Designer way blitz or isopure type.

Sleeved Jan 30 - just home

Cory and rox.... It took me a couple of days but have a good routine down. To get as close to goals of 60+ fluid, about 90 prot and above 30 carb, i have to do milk mixed shakes for the fat and carbs. I then do g2 the rest of the time. I do not burp unless my sip is too big or too often so i cut back to using my shot glass 1oz measuring glass and pour into it. I keep to one ounce every 15 min and only 4 oz per hour. If i eat broth, i wake up with heartburn so no more for now. I do my shake at the 3 usual meal times and g2 the rest of the awake hours so that i go to sleep with only g2 in there. I slept really well on my right side with a pillow tucked under tummy for support every night but the two i had broth. Saw doc today and was not dehydrated so will continue with this plan for now. My one prilosec seems to be working fine unless i eat that broth. Good luck...hope the burping stops and sleep improves. Stay in touch.
  4. As i recall, it is carb based and lots of goopiness added which turns it into a slider.

It really helps to inspire those of us just beginning. I think i do remember mention of a new haircut early on but never saw the significant body morph! I am so proud of your accomplishments and know it cant be nearly what you must feel with such improved health. Congratulations! You were among a few on here who were my secret mentors. I've missed your frequent posts but so glad you posted this update.

    sleeved 1/31/13

I was sleeved this past wed afternoon so today is my 4th day. The first afternoon home, i focused on just sipping any fluid that tasted good..tea, water, broth and g2. I also walked 2 loops around my house each hour. Went to bed and only slept until 2am then dozed and sipped in the recliner till morning. Mid morning i revved up and started on my goals for fluid, protein, fat, carbs and walking. I met all goals but fat yesterday. ...plus walking the same loops. I took a 2 hour nap in the pm. I went to bed at 930 last night and slept until 6 this morning! Magnificent! Wedged pillows and slept on my side which was really wonderful..back feels better. I am headed to normal at a fast clip and think it is because i followed the preop diet so surgery was uneventful, i worked in the hospital to constantly keep fluid moving, i walked the hall several times a day, i came home with a plan and supplies ready (alone by the way) and now at home i log everything and set goals. I do not feel that success just happens. You have to plan for it, revise the plan as needed and decide to do what is necessary to reach the goal. Advanced planning is key with this process. By the time i made a decision to go the surgery route, i had researched and read websites for months and knew this is not an easy route to go. It is tons of work to coordinate all the appointments and manage all the nutrition requirements. I tried to not get caught up in recipes and souping up my shakes. I started changing my relationship with food months before surgery. I want to yes..enjoy food, but treat it as nourishment for the body that will allow me to enjoy friends, family, activities and the joys of living life as a normal sized, normal eating person does rather than everything centering around food and wheni get my next bite. I will follow the plan until i reach goal and hope to not venture out into carb land until i am maintenance. I was firm in my decision with surgery so did not become afraid even when finally on the surgery table. I of course hoped everything went according to plan but i did not dwell on thoughts of complications...immediately refocus on success and "see" youself in that new body doing those activities you plan to experience very soon! I sincerely wish you complete and total success!

Sleeved Jan 30 - just home

Well rox...how was your night? I began by trying to sleep on my right side like the vets post here that sometimes works with a pillow wedged a little under my stomach.... Absolutely no go. Switched to back with knees elevated a bit. Slapt about two hours then needed to put a pile of pillows under shoulders to mimic the hospital bed upward tilt so made it another two hours. Finally got up at 2am and dozwed off and on in a recliner until now. Probably not a bad idea since i sipped a little g2 and made a loop or two around my house inbetween naps. Hope yours went much better than mine. Hoping for a nice nap today and a better night tonight. I think it is a big adjustment going from those great IV meds to the home routine so trying to be patient and remember it is only day 3 major surgery post op!

    January 2013 Sleevers?

Sleeved on Jan 30th. Home today and doing well. Thanks to all those who posted the past few months who taught me what to do to be prepared for pre op, surgery and now coming home and learning my new way of life. Yes i had a great surgeon and yes his team was awesome but reading nearly every new post here on vst for about 4 months gave me such a wealth of knowledge from which to pull that i felt ready to meet each challenge. I still waaaay over-packed for the hospital though! :]

    Hair loss

I have been on levothyroxine 150 mcg since 2003. ... Never lost hair. I do expect thinning in a few months from wls though and am taking biotin and zinc and doing scalp massages with a good stimulating shampoo..itnis all about the follicle..not the shaft although poor conditioned hair can break as well.
  15. Yesterday was my birthday so my gift to me is surgery TODAY! I'm on for 11:30 EST. Can't wait to be a loser! Good luck to my Jan 30th sleeve buddies!
