Thanks, Lauren for the spreadsheet. I didn't send any update since I was the same basically. I will IM you for 6/30 information. Good luck with your surgery on Tuesday. Kathybad, I know where are talking about. I have been to Toronto numerous times to visit a friend. She lives in Calgary now and I have not been there. I want to lose some weight before going. Isn't it sad that I have not done something I want because of my weight. Boy, I really need this surgery. Sleep well, Lynette. Now I have to go find the most recent calendar and update it so I know who is having surgery and when. Lauren, maybe you can add a date of surg column so we can see the changes after surgery. Just a suggestion.

welcome : Steph7s, Tinkerbell177, Ribearty, Daulour & Sunshinesonya! Dini, it is so great to have you back and know you are feeling better. I was getting a little worried. How's your head? no lasting headaches? Just think, when I have my surgery on July 26 your will be a full month with yours. I am a little jealous here... Breadlady, glad you are doing so well. I am a side sleeper so I am especially glad to hear you're sleeping ok on your side. Laurend, I can't believe it is so soon. Good luck with the surgery. We will be awaiting news on how you are doing. Lynette, you are on the countdown, too. Are you ready? I will be thinking of you and Laurend. Please hurry back so we will know how well you do.:clap2: My thoughts are with all of you that have to do a pre-op diet. My surgeon does not require one. :heh: Not that I am rubbing it in:heh: I will try to do some kind of modified low carb, high protein that last week before surgery cause it sure can't hurt. I don't know who mentioned weighing what you licence says but that is a GREAT goal. Mine says 199--onederland. I know I have missed some people. I usually have a pencil and paper to jot notes so I can reply but didn't have on today. Hugs to everyone as we all start our journey this month.

It took me forever to read all the posts and I know I have missed answering or responding to many messages. I will have to start from now. Again, Dini, my thoughts are with you.... Sunny

How is weight loss for people over 50?
sunshine6855 replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi everyone. I am new to this group but recognize several of you from the Lucky # seven group. I, too, and 52 and look forward to being healthy, looking better, and living better. My insurance is reviewing my information and hopefully I will be approved in the next week or so. I am excited to see weight loss is steady, even if sometimes slow, over 50. I did worry about that. I look forward to getting to know all of you. -
How long does it take to get the paperwork submitted to Ins?
sunshine6855 replied to LMJLMJ's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have BCBS Federal and my paperwork was submitted June 12. I called the insurance yesterday and they said it was being reviewed. I asked when I would know something and they told be it could be up to 15 days (working) from receipt so that puts it around July 3. I don't know why mine is taking so long. I am 43 BMI and have multiple co-morbidities. Seems like they would want me to lose weight and some of these co-morbidities. My cousin was approved by them in 2 days. Go figure. -
Good Morning everyone! Its a beautiful day here in Georgia. IndioGirl, thanks for updating the calendar. There are so many of us. I should have a date shortly. Dini, you are ours and we're not giving you back to June. Their loss, our gain:D I can't believe you only have 4 more days. I am getting excited for you. Lynette, hope you can pop in for a minute sometime during the weekend. Good luck with the relay walk for life. BreadLady, good to know you are up and walking. Can you start Protein shakes to help with that wicked hunger? Hope the gas pains get better. Nelli, you and I are playing the same waiting game...sigh Cherrybomb, 700cal??!! That is probably the total calories in that tsp of peanut butter:D Hang in there. You can do it. of course, that is easy for me to say...:heh: Hello and have a great day, Marcy, Quinn, Chimboree, and patti C.
-
Dini, you baby is adorable. And you other half ain't bad either! You really don't look much overweight, you hot italian irish girl. Hope you baby wins. Quinn, how exciting! I can't wait until I get a date. Marcy, I read all the time, also. What do you like to read? I imagine out in the wilds reading is common. I love mysteries, romance, espionage. My fav authors are Janet Evanovich, J D Robb, Rachel Gibson, Patricial Cornwall, Robert Parker to name a few. I read anything. Lynette, hope you are feeling much better BreadLady, welcome back. Please share all. I am glad you weren't hungry. I spoke with the insurance company today. They said they received the paperwork June 12 and it can take up to 15 working days. So I should have some answer to approval or not by July 3. Thats ok since I will be taking my HORSE PILLS (antibiotics) til July 9 and cannot have surgery until after that. Hopefully I will hear soon. Talking about heat, here it gets in the upper 90s and low 100s but the humidity is like in the 90s. Some days you get damp just walking outside. Thank the Lord for air conditioning... later...

E G D (esophagogastroduodenoscopy)
sunshine6855 replied to suebaby's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Had one two weeks ago. I would tell you all about it but I don't remember anything. They knock you out...it's great. -
Thanks for sharing. Great points. You gave me lots to think about as I await my band.
-
See, Dini, thats why I forgot you. It's Lynette's fault... How could I forget my friend from Ireland when I am a good bit Irish myself...tell me, do you really spend as much time in pubs as is rumored...:biggrin1: My Irish side of the family has always liked its liquor. That was one of the first questions I asked my doc...can I drink after this surgery.. Sure thing, he said. btw, I like how you bolded everyones name. I think I am going to steal the idea... What a long list. Thanks for doing this Laurend. Add my stats - 5'8 and 280. I sure wish more of these folks on the list would join and and post. BreadLady..how are you doing? Are the drugs good? Can't wait to hear from you. Lynette, he said most docs undertreat sinus infections and that it usually takes about 3 wks to really get rid of it. Especially with someone like me who get recurrent infections. The bummer is that I cannot have the surgery until I finish the HORSE PILLS. I would think your doc would want to treat now so you would be healthy for surgery. I'm sorry you had trouble. I know how bad you feel. I have been there in the past. But that z pak will start working quickly.
-
Dini, I can't believe I left you out. The count down is on for you are you getting excited? the calendar looks great. BreadLady, I hope you are doing well and we hear from you this evening. I have been thinking about you all day....{{hugs}} to make you feel better.
-
Wow! This is a growing group. Welcome Abbey, IndioGirl, lwesson and Dancing to the Lucky's. This is a great group. Lynette, I am sorry to hear you are sick. I hope you feel better soon. That Z-pak works great. And I agree on the generic Mucinex. It is much cheaper and works great....{{hug}} Marcy, I got tickled thinking of you trying to explain things to a 7 year old. I thought of the vibrator the first time I saw the name..:biggrin1: Jackie, you are playing the waiting game with me. All of my papers have been submitted and the insurance is "reviewing it". good luck Phyl, :clap2: congrats on the date! cazulay, you are definitely moving fast through the process. Just goes to show how much insurance dictates healthcare...but I won't get on my soapbox now:confused: Chimboree, glad everything went well. those arterial blood gases hurt like devil Laurend, hang in there on the pre-op diet. it's only 2 weeks...of course, I can say that since my doc doesn't require one:) Don't ya just hate me:biggrin1: I went to the pulmonologist yesterday and my pulmonary function test was good. However, I do have a sinus infection, which I suspected, and he put me on Amoxicillin 875 mg 2 x day for 20 days. Did you get that? 20 days. They are horse pills and I cannot have the surgery until I finish the 20 days...bummer. The earliest I would be able to have it will be July 10. I was hoping for the week of the 4th. Oh well.....still waiting for insurance approval. did you notice I am a little upset about the 20 days of the HORSE PILL.

WOOOO!!! WOOOOO!!!! Way to go BreadLady. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. I know you will do great. I bought a Magic Bullet last Thursday and it is just sitting there. I haven't opened it either. Like you, I am still trying to decide if I want it. I guess it would be great for shakes and chopping meat, making egg salad, chicken salad, tuna salad, etc. I'm still not sure. Let me know if you use yours and I will open mine... Welcome Karen. Dini, who could overlook you???:biggrin1: Phyl, hope you get that day in July. Please let us know. BreadLady, I would love to chat.

Hi y'all. I am back from vacation and family reunion with an additional 4 lbs of me. The band sure would have helped me this past week... Seems like the group has been very busy. I had to look around and find the thread. It is under Monthly Support Groups. Lynette, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! a day late. Mine was June 8. Wanabthin and jfk, welcome. Can't wait to get to know you. Boy, JFK, that was fast scheduling of your date. Lucky thing. Cherrybomb, I sympathize with you on that liquid diet. I can't believe you have to do it for 4 weeks....yuk!. My dr. doesn't require a pre-op diet. BreadLady, I am sorry to hear you are not feeling better. You can still start on the Mucinex. It will help your cough up all of that junk. I hope you can still have your surgery tomorrow, but if not, it is for your saftey. Keeping you in my prayers here. Dini, if they don't do the lapband there, what exactly are they doing. Obviously it is something similar. Being a nurse, I am interested in all that stuff. I hope I am not being to personal here. If so, just tell me NOMDB. Chimboree, good luck on your dr. appt today. I called the insurance for another reason and asked if they had received anything from my dr office for approval. They have and they are "reviewing it". the psychologist here is starting a group for individuals who may has food addiction issues. I was calling to see if it was covered and it is minus a $15 co-pay. I think I will try it out for a while in hopes that it will make working with the band easier. We will see. Talk with y'all later.

Welcome purplegirl. We will all want to mother you... Lynette, the consensus on the 25 gm protein was that research did NOT support that statement. There was not a limit. Just that, as with all food, if you take in more that you use (calories in, calories out) you will store it as fat. The other negative to too much protein is that it can have an effect on your kidneys longterm (I am talking about really overdoing it). So don't worry about the high protein supplements. BreadLady, it is so just like me to get sick before surgery. I hope you are getting better. The good thing about a cold is that it does run its course. Those zinc cold supplements actually do help some. The time is getting closer. I am so excited for you. Dini, do you have Carnation Instant Breakfast or its equivalent in Ireland. That is what my md recommends post op. You can even order it off the Carnation websit. Just a thought. If you a a serving of powdered milk to the cup of skim milk you mix it with, it tastes richer and has 21 gm protein. I should have a date in the next week or 2. They were sending my information in to the insurance this week. My cousin had this surgery May 4, 2007 and she has lost 26lbs. I can't wait!!!!
-
Another thing, the vegetarian site that stated 25 gms max or it turns into fat did not list any research this was based on. They just made the statement. The other material I read was research articles in peer reviewed journals.
-
Wrangler, you are moving along quickly. Sometimes I felt like they should just do a full body MRI and check out everything. I feel better though. I haven't ever been checked out this thoroughly and as I am getting older, issues can arise. I think the only thing not done is a mammography. Since my Primary care doc wants me to have one yearly, I will try to get it in before the surgery. Having just have a colonoscopy within the last 6 months, I will feel like I have been checked from head to toe...wait a minute, I HAVE been checked from head to toe...:biggrin1: Dini, you are going to have to give a report on the protein supplements. I did a great deal of internet research last night on the issue of maximum of 25 gm protein. I did find on vegetarian site that stated that. I read numerous research studies and the gist was you need to replace what you lose. Protein is like any other nutrient (carbs, fat) in that if you take in more than you use it will convert to fat. Protein absorption varies based on the type of protein it is (animal, plant) and even the type within each group. Several studies used supplements containing 50+ gm. per serving. Protein is broken down starting in the stomach with most absorption in the duodenum and upper small intestine. This is why protein deficiency is such a potential problem in gastric bypass patients. If you are not real active your protein needs are lower. The more physical activity, the more protein you need. Recommendations ranged from 0.3 gm/kg body weight(RDA), the average was 0.8 gm/kg, with athelete and exercise anywhere from 1-2 gm/kg. So the overall consensus was there is no set amount to take in or not take in at one time and you should work with your nutritionalist, based on your activity level, come up with a daily amount. It was stated it is better to space it out through the day as you use protein throughout the day. I sure hope this was not too much and too detailed information. I am really into research...
-
Lynette, I think I was in the forum talking about shakes and such since I want to make sure I get in enough protein. I don't want to lose a lot of hair, just weight...:biggrin1: Someone posted their nutritionalist said if you take in more than 25 grams in one sitting the body can't process it or use it all(something like that) and the rest is stored as fat. Obviously it made an impression on me. I had been contemplating those 42 gm shooters and decided against it. I will see if I can find more information. I mean, 25 gm is just over 6 oz steak or chicken.
