  1. I am 12 weeks out from surgery and have always had an intolerance for the Protein shakes' date=' pre-op and post-op. Needless to say, I am weak quite often, but make sure I eat Protein first. Are there any other sleevers who have an intolerance to protein shakes and bars? If so, are you able to get the necessary amounts of protein in your diet? And fluids, as well. Still having a tough time getting all the fluids in each day.[/quote']

I kept drinking and running to the bathroom - even with the ones that are suppose to be lactose free mixed with Lactaid skim milk. I now have to take the Lactaid pills before I have yogurt, pudding, cottage cheese and the shakes - and it's working no more problems. I took 2 Lactaid pills and drank a premiere Protein shake the other day and it sent me running, but the nectar Protein powders don't. Good luck!

  2. Grits are dried ground hominy. It's kind like malt-o-meal but definitely a southern thing. Depending on what part of the US your in you would either put sugar or salt in them. Never understood the salt thing lol :)

What oh girl some salt and some American cheese slices!

  3. yea just that...ground beef isn't considered puree right? so I shouldn't add it. I wanted to go to the supermarket and get cheddar cheese and cut them up and eat them....is that a bad idea? I need Calcium

I second the Wendy's Chili it is the first thing I ate when I got to puréed food. I didn't really care for their chili before surgery, but when I ate it after if was mmm mmm good.

  4. Thanks a lot for the message. It's getting really tiring sleeping on my back but I also feel that I'm being paranoid about lots of things. For example' date=' I've been coughing a lot and im trying to get myself to stop coz I'm too scared it would do something to my sleeve. I think if I keep calling my doc about every single issue I'm worried about he'll hate me very soon.[/quote']

And coughing isn't a bad thing it just helps to clear your lungs along with the thing they should have given you from respiratory therapy to inhale into.

Don't be afraid to call your doctor that's why they get paid the big bucks! My doctor told me to call him if I feel that something just isn't right.

  6. I'm up at 2:30 am...not happy right now!! I've been sleeping in the recliner part of my couch since I came home' date=' but not sleeping really well, so I tried to sleep in bed for the first time tonight. I made it from around 10:30 until just about 2:00 and then woke up and couldn't get comfortable again. It feels like my chest (ribs) hurt. So I sat up and got super dizzy - that has gotten better, but still hasn't gone away yet. Obviously some nausea usually comes with the dizziness... I had called my doctor's office yesterday to fax my paperwork so I could go back to work on Monday. Now I'm nervous that I'm jumping the gun and trying to go back too soon. I was approved to be out until 4/24, but I know I don't need that long (surgery was 3/26). I have my 3 week follow-up on 4/12 so I have to be out then anyway...but there are important things going on that I should really be a part of, including a really big meeting on 4/11. What would you do??[/quote']

I would take the full time off so that when I went back I would be stronger. I only had 3 weeks off because 3 weeks before my surgery I started a new job, but I feel that I am ready to go back- I just hope it doesn't bite me in the butt!

  7. I'm three days post op and it's been very very difficult for me to drink anything at all. For the last 2 days I was only able to drink a 250ml cup of Water in total. This morning I was able to finish an entire juice box in about an hour. Is this too much? Could my stomach start leaking?

No you won't get a leak by drinking, your body will tell you when you are able to drink more. Right now it may be difficult to drink because your stomach is swollen, but as it heals you will be able to drink more and faster- but don't be fooled like I was I drank a shake in like 15 minutes and just didn't feel well after.

  8. I do skim milk with my shakes usually either in the afternoon or around midnight (sort of like a midnight snack) because it fills me up at night' date=' cures night hunger and puts me to sleep.

Also - just a suggestion not sure if you are using a certain kind but you can inquire about a Protein powder called Body Fortress they have several different flavors and with two scoops and 16oz of skim milk I get in 78g of Protein just from shakes alone. But what made me think of mentioning this was the 'Cookies and milk' - Body Fortress makes a powder called Cookies and Creme. You might be interested in it. Right after surgery I had issues with protein because the powder I bought was Vanilla Creme (vanilla became repulsive to me after surgery - even so much as the smell of vanilla perfume) so I switched to Body Fortress chocolate Peanut Butter and most days I look forward to drinking it. Sold at Walmart for approx. 15-20 for a huge tub.[/quote']

You are using that 2 scoops for 2 shakes right because your body can only absorb like 35 grams of protein at a time?
