  1. I am SO excited! I took my vanilla Protein shake, added almost a full scoop of Nestle's unsweetened cocoa, milk and 1/4 of a banana. It's SO good! It's probably a staple in these parts and been posted again and again, so if so I apologize, but this is great!

    :)

I freeze my banana chunks and add them to 8 oz of Lactaid and a scoop of nectar chocolate Truffle and blend it in my mini blender and it comes out thick like a milk shake.< /p>

  2. Hi I live in Mi and I am at the begining stage, I just found out today that my insurance covers the entire procedure. But I have to have 6 visits all in different months with my doctor before I can have my surgury. Is this normal and did anyone have the same issue with Bluecare Network Thank you. Im just so excited and ready to get started on my journal.

Yes I have Blue Care Network and I began the whole process June 27, 2012 and I had my surgery March 28, 2013 at U of M. Once you finish your 6 months you may still have to wait to be scheduled for surgery - once I completed my 6 months I had to wait 2 more months.

  3. My visit was an hour long and meeting with my Nut was an hour long as well' date=' then there was an hour long NUT class. Then during all of my office visit I met with them.

    I love the program I picked.[/quote']

My program sounds similar to yours- 2 hr. NUT class and workshops always available free of charge.

  4. I haven't had a period for a long time so I hope by me losing the weight it can come back how much do I have to lose to see it angina do any body know

I don't know mine were always normal before the surgery.

  5. OMG' date=' OMG, OMMMMMMG !!!!

I think you just reached into my brain and pulled out several frustrations that I am havng too! I just didn't have the courage to post them, as I didn;t want to seem like 'negative nelly" when this IS something that I "asked" for!!!

BUT..... and this is a BIG BUT.....

I had NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO F*N CLUE about alllllllllll of the changes that I do NOT like. Allow me to vent:

    1. The fact that I will never be able to eat more than a 1/2 to cup of food (maybe thaaaaat's not too bad...LOL)

    2. The fact that I will have to FOR.EVER try to get "60-80 g" of Protein EVERY DAY! FOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVER. That is F&& HARD to do

    3. That I will probably be constiapted (already had a bout with it, wherein, I wasn't "paying attention" to how long it had been since I went and since I have NEEEEVER been a "go every day" person)..... it was 5 days, I had to give myself a suppository, and I felt like my @hole was being RIPPED in two (felt worse than giving birth, I swear it did!) I am not used to having to take "supplements" to ensure my bowels move......but it seems that NOW,.....NOW...... I will....foreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever. And with alllllll the stuff to keep track of (how much Protein, Vitamins, Calcium, how much liquid i'm imbibing.....) &H!T is HARDER for me on a day to day basis and I haven't even gone back to work!!!! WHat happens when I am "busy" and "forget" to eat..... forget to drink (I have NEVER been a "drink alot of liquid in a day" kinda person)

    4. The Vitamins. I was talkign to my 78 yr old mother ( who is and has alwasy been thin....her BIGGEST when I was probably 12 or 13 was a size 14, mostly due to her being "hippy") who takes a PLETHORA of pills every day for everything from estrogen, Calcium, HBP meds, multi Vitamin, Insulin pill.....blah, blah, blah), that it was frustrating to have to "keep up" wth when I can take this.... oh, don't take calcium near the time you take the Vitamin pill......etc". Well, she said " honey.... I have to do the same thing.... I have to remember to eat, watch what I eat, remember to take my pills at certain times", and as much as looooove my mother, I wanted to scream to her:

BUT YOU ARE 78!!!! I AM 42!!!!! I am not an older person! Yet, my "routiine" is that of someone OLD! I did this to make my life simpler, NOT MORE COMPLICATED........ and now I am stuck".

Top that off with the fact that she has NOTHING. TO. DO, but to keep up with vitamin regimens, figure out what to cook on a whim...... I work, have a husband and 9 year old and simply do not HAVE time for more complication! But..... that is my life now.....

I am totally venting..... I hope I feel differently at some point.....

I also feel that NO ONE TOLD ME what I could expect and I have THREE.... THREE friends (not super close friends) who have gone through this and those chicks never told me of allllllllllllllllll the WORK that this entails! (one is 2 years sleeved, one is 1 year and the other is 7 weeks)....... when I asked my 2yr sleeved friend she was kinda like "Ok..... so what do ya wanan know?"....

I hate that damn question...... I DON'T KNOW WHAT I DON'T KNOW!!!! TELL ME EVERYTHING...... and truthfully..... when people say "tell me about the surgery", they want to know the "bad stuff" to expect..... we can allllll see the "good"!!!

But no one, NOT even the one sleeved 7 weeks ago, told me of all the WORK that is now added to my life just to keep LIVIING.

So, again...... i feel like you do..... if i had known this, in THIS depth.... i am pretty sure I would not have done this......

    #learningtolivewiththisdecision :([/quote']

I actually joined VSG way before I had the surgery so that I could educate myself about what I was getting myself into. I met a friend who was to be sleeved before me and after her surgery she told me some of the things that she was experiencing but I had already read about it on here. Some of the things that you might experience may scare the **** out of you if you are not prepared for them.

  6. I got my monthly on 6/3 it usually lasts about 4-5 days. I was sleeved on 6/24 and then on Friday 6/28 I got it again. So now I'm feeling crampy it's 7/28 so I guess I can expect to get it around this time. Is it the body adjustment? Did this happen to anybody else?

Oh let me tell you I had surgery March 18th 2013 and I was due for my period and it did not come, so by May 18th I had light spotting and then nothing until July 25th. I was soaking through super plus tampons every 1-2 hours I even had to add an overnight pad. This went on for two whole days and now my flow is back to normal. I did some research and apparently when you don't shed the lining it overgrows and builds up and it has to come out some time. I have even read on here where some women have there period continuously for 3 or more weeks after surgery.

  7. Hey everyone =) Glad I found this forum. I'm having surgery on Aug 13th and my biggest worry is about my hair lol How messed up is that?

ShanRN that's not messed up at all! I have shoulder length hair and I was sleeved March 18, 2013 and I am losing hair daily and I usually get in 70 grams of Protein or more.. I try to not let it worry me but it does. Lately my hair has been very tangled after washing it and I can barely comb through it - I am going to get a touch up this Wednesday and If the touch up doesn't help with the tangles I'm thinking that I have two choices - cut it off or braids. I didn't want to cut it because I cut it really short last summer and just grew it out. When I have to detangle it after washing it I lose a handful of hair every time!

  8. I went to the lake this weekend and could not put on a "XX" Life Jacket  oops. No huge deal' date=' I am used to it and it is normal. I check the rides at universal studios to make certain I can fit in the seats then makeup an excuse not to ride it, if there is a chance it will be tight... My BMI is 41 and I am decent health, but I can feel myself getting older and my health is starting to not be as good as it was 2 years ago. I have 3 levels in my home and get tired walking up the stairs :). My last SUPER SERIOUS weight loss was 26 lbs last year, but it is all back... I am certain you understand.... My wife is starting to put pressure on me about my weight and she is right. Also, I want to be able to do things I used to do. However, I am SO SCARED of this process. I am scared of the liquid diet... How can you eat liquid for a month. No wonder you loose weight you are on a liquid diet. If I only ate liquid for a month now I would feel like I was gonna die and loose a lot of weight. I love to eat a steak dinner and have wine with my wife, will I give that up forever? I like to sit on the front porch and drink a beer and talk to my wife, will that be gone forever? My insurance will cover it, but I honestly am scared... If I ever reach my "Ideal Weight" how do you eat 2,000 cals a day to build/keep muscle when you stomach is gone... This is a difficult thought process for me and it feels like the weak way out. If I do it, I don't want to tell anyone except my wife and father (they will take care of me out of the hospital). Anyone have any thoughts?[/quote']

You won't eat 2,000 calories a day at goal you will eat 1,200 unless you are exercising like crazy

  9. that makes sense I've never had dairy issues prior to surgery but i guess post op its a new issue thank you so much for your responses im going to seek out some alternative Protein that is not milk based:)

Hey HeatherRad even when I mix the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury with the Lactaid milk I still get diarrhea that's why I started using the Lactaid pills.

  10. I find Tonic Alchemy superior to Amazing Grass and am currently on my second bottle of it. Love it! It not only helps me with energy and detox' date=' but also with inflammation issues. 71 different veg, fruit and herbs. Taste is not bad.[/quote']

Hey Fiddlerman on the Amazon website it says that the use of this product will expose you to lead. Shouldn't I bee concerned with this?

  11. I just started back taking Biotin. Its also good for skin and nails' date=' as well as metabolism. I usually don't Shampoo my hair that much, I like to co wash, but I use aphogee products and their shampoo for damaged hair is a protien based shampoo and I hope that will help me due to the lack of protien. I haven't started losing hair yet.. I'm like 2.5 months[/quote']

My NUT told me not to take Biotin because it increases your appetite. I also have Aphogee products but I don't use them on a regular basis but planned on using them at about 2 months out - I'm 1 month and 10 days out.

  12. My Doc told me that Black women who've had WLS (and in general) tend to lose weight slower than any other demographic...has anyone found this to be true from their own experiences?

    -AJ

I was sleeved 3-18-13 and I was 258 the day of surgery and 237 as of 4-20-13. So that's 21lbs in a month I don't think that's slow and so far I have exercised 3 times.

  13. SURGEY date: 3-1-13

    Down 48 lbs (18 was pre-op)

Ate 1/2 burger with bun for lunch. 45 minutes later ate the other 1/2. Why? Because I am stupid and weak. Ate it for sport. Please Lord' date=' give me the strength not to try to outsmart my sleeve.

Anyone else do this sort of stuff?

    Thanks

    [/quote']

Don't be so hard on yourself! Yeah I did try to eat some fries, a chicken nugget, and a catfish tender and it all made me very uncomfortable and I haven't tried anything like that since. I was sleeved 3-18-13 and I just try to keep reminding myself that the first 6 months are critical because this is when we will be able to drop the weight with ease. They say after 6 months losing weight will be sort of the way we experienced it pre sleeve - more difficult, so use your time wisely food will always be there.
