  1. Hi, all, so I finished my first 3 weeks of Camp Gladiator and I have signed up for another 6 months! I love this workout!! Its hard core! I am almost 4 years out so I needed to up my exercise more. I am down 90 lb from the sleeve sx but want to loose another 40-50. Have any of you done CG? Do you still stick to a high Protein, low carb diet or have you had to increase your calorie intake due to these hard workouts? I go to 6 CG camps a week and the next 4 weeks are starting tomorrow. I would love to know what your diet has become with CG.

  2. Acid Reflux, Heartburn and Indigestion are all signs of a hiatal hernia.

I tried googling but I can't get a good description of how to tell if you have a heital hernia... Anyone know? I'm had a c-section and 2 back surgeries so who knows what's happening in my midsection!

  3. Awesome!! Shes a really nice doctor. She took out my gallbladder. So your appt is this upcoming Friday with her the 21st or you already had it last Friday?

shrinkmepls, Dr Kim did my surgery 3 years ago. How did your visit with him go?

So happy I found this thread. I am going to my first appointment with dr. Holden of kim bariatrics this friday ! Good luck to everyone else !

  4. Ronimom, did you ever hear back from Dr Kim's office on pricing for you? Dr Kim did my surgery a little over 3 years ago and he is wonderful in my opinion. The staff is GREAT too! The after surgery support is amazing. Lots of opportunities to get together with fellow Dr Kim patients at support groups, fitness events, monthly Breakfast and dinner get togethers, 5k/10ks, fun events like going dancing, painting, roller skating, etc.

@@ronimom Dr. Clayton Frenzel has a cash price of $10,500 and hiatal hernia price of $3500.00. Both of these options are listed on his website.

True Results has similar prices as Dr Frenzel for both options.

Dr. David Kim is a little more, around $15,000 cash price and $5,000 hiatal hernia price.

@@BrownEyedTxGirl - Thank you for the information. I could not find the pricing information on Dr. Frenzel's page, but I sent them a message via their website.

I contacted True Results (in St. Louis) earlier today but they said I only qualified (insurance-wise) for the lap band. They referred me to another doctor in the area, but I have yet to contact him.

I also spoke with someone from Dr. Kim's office. They did not mention the hiatal hernia option and quoted me a price around $14,000. She said the special on their website ($4900) is generally for local people because it requires 4-5 office visits. I am 5-6 hours away from them. She is going to look into my insurance and get back with me later this week.

I will continue to look around. I was set to go to Mexico until I read about the hiatal hernai option. Since my PCP has told me I have a hiatal hernia, I was hoping this might be my solution to stay in the US. We shall see!

  5. Dr Holden took out my gallbladder a little over a year ago. Shes really nice and knows what she is doing. She does her surgeries just like Dr Kim as Dr Kim has trained her over 3 years. Dr Kim did my sleeve 3 years ago. In my opinion Dr Holden is just as good as Dr Kim since he taught her his ways.

I would also like to tell you about Kim Bariatrics amazing after surgery support. KBI has monthly fitness events and monthly support groups. The private patient only Facebook support group has helped me a ton through my journey. Its very helpful to have a page where its all Dr Kim and Dr Holden patients only going down the same journey. We do monthly 5ks/10ls, monthly Breakfast and dinner get togethers, fun events like going dancing, skating, painting, etc. There are even accountability daily exercise post and weigh in post once a week to whoever likes to be accountable. I lost 90 lbs and am keeping it off!

Good luck to your journey whomever you choose.

  6. Not sure what you are paying for your program, but I used Dr Kim and he has a Hiatal Program too for $4900. I have a ton of friends who have done this program and are extremely happy. Your very first visit with them involves meeting Dr Kim and meeting with your one and only bariatric coordinator. You only have one person to call for your questions. She will then go over the cash agreement and set up the EGD, Cardiac testing, sleep study and nutrition class. Its a true class with other patients, not a phone call. Cardiac testing is in depth. Dr Kim is very thorough with his patients lives. He truly cares. The staff is very friendly and care about you too. They offer amazing life long after surgery support to help you be successful. Good luck to your journey! :)

  7. Dr Holden took out my gallbladder a year ago. Shes such a nice doctor and great at what she does! Dr Kim did my sleeve a ittle over 3 years ago. :)

That's what I was thinking the cooridinator would do for me,but she just told me that they could not give me a date without the apprival in office. They advertise that they have these top insurance negotiators but I'm doing all the leg work. Blue cross told me that they would resend the approval to them and mail one to me. I'm going to scan and email mine to them when I get it. I really like Dr. Holden and I want her to do my surgery. If it wasn't for that fact I would see if I could take my approval somewhere else.

  8. Hi! Dr Kim did my inverted sleeve a little over 3 years ago. 90 lbs down and keeping it off! Living life again thanks to Dr Kim! I highly recommend him due to his 0% leakage inverted sleeve. His office staff is amazing as well.

Hunger does come back. Being 3 years out I don't remember when that happened. I still get full quickly though. The sleeve is a tool to help you loose weight. You will loose the most your first year if you stick with the eating plan. Don't start adding bad high carb foods and drinks back in or you will stall yourself out and cause weight loss to slow down significantly.

I'm very happy with my weight loss. I'm still working towards loosing another 30-40. Being this far out its a little harder. I can still eat small proportions but more than I could my first year out. I keep a eye on the scale daily. I know some people don't agree with that but I do not want to go back, so its accountability for me.

Kim Bariatric Institute offers the whole package. From the moment you walk through the door to the rest of your life they are there for you during your journey. To get to surgery there is a process and its a good one. The after surgery support is amazing! They offer monthly support groups and free fitness events. The private patient only Facebook support group is very informative, supportive and encouraging. We have monthly 5k/10ks, Breakfast and dinner get togethers, and fun events as well. KBI is not about the money and getting you through the process and see ya at your next appointment, its about helping you and being supportive of you for the rest of your life to be successful!

    Good luck to your journey!

  9. Hi, Dr Kim did my inverted sleeve a little over 3 years ago. 90 lbs down and living life again!

He is an excellent doctor with an excellent friendly staff that will walk you through your process. Make sure you fill out your packet before you go in. You will weigh in and get your height, then meet with a PA to ask you a bunch of health and history questions. Then you will meet with Dr Kim or Dr Holden whoever your doctor will be with your program. Then you will meet with a Bariatric Coordinator to go over your program and get you all set up with your classes. You may have a 90 day program but not sure and everyone's deductibles are different so that depends on your insurance plan. I can't answer that one.

All I know is I loved my experience with KBI. From the moment I walked through the door to the rest of my life they will be there. They have monthly support groups and free fitness events. The private patient only Facebook support group is amazing!!! You can not join it until you have had surgery. But it will help you through your journey. The group is very encouraging and supportive! We do monthly 5ks/10ks, Breakfast and dinner get togethers, and fun events too. We are about to go on our very first KBI cruise in September! So lots to offer to help you be successful through your journey!

  10. Just curious, how do you have a surgery date already and not know what you will be paying? I used Dr Kim and all the pricing and testing was done before setting a date.

Thanks BrownEyedTxGirl I did put a call in to Dr Nicholson's office and am waiting on a call back. I'm so nervous that this procedure will be out of my price range. I'm truly hoping not though. I'm going through week one of my pre-op diet and have done all the testing needed so my fingers are crossed that all will go well. Good luck on your surgery as well!!

  11. jacks89, how exciting Dr Kim will be doing your surgery!! He did my inverted sleeve 3 years ago and I have no regrets in choosing him. I got my life back thanks to him! You have made a great choice and the staff are all so wonderful! I have met sooo many friends through his practice from the private patient only Facebook support group. I think as a traveler you will get dissolvable sutures on the outside. I know quite a few patients that have paid cash for their surgeries and his cash pay patients go to Frisco for surgery. You may ask the person you are speaking with if she can give you details on hotels near Frisco for your surgery, then hotels in Colleyville for your appointments? Did she say how many visits you will have to do or just 1?

My biggest advice to you is bring your pillow. You will need a pillow between you and a seatbelt.

  12. I used Dr David Kim, hes in Colleyville or Frisco. He does the Making Bariatrics Affordable Hiatal Hernia program too. It all depends on your insurance benefit and if you have an exclusion from bariatrics. When you do the Upper Endoscopy and they see a hiatal hernia, your cash price for the sleeve is $4900 and they bill your insurance for the EGD and hiatal hernia repair.

I've called and scheduled a consult with Dr. Nicholson in Plano, Tx. While I was on the phone the lady scheduling it said you are going the hiatal hernia route. When I asked her what that meant she said the lady with insurance would go over that with me. Anyone know what this means? I know when I spoke with Melissa on the insurance info she said that first my part would be 10,000 but then she said she wAs looking into something and would call me back. She called back saying that going gastric sleeve she could get it where it was just under $3,000 with $2,000 of that being my deductible.

  13. pretty in pink, Dr Kim did my inverted sleeve 3 years ago. He's awesome! Do you have any insurance at all with an exclusion of bariatrics? I know he has and affordable program of $4900 if you have a hiatal hernia. What I love about Dr Kim's office is the amazing life long after surgery support. We do monthly runs, get togethers, fitness events, and more! You have a great opportunity to get to know a lot of his patients through the private patient only Facebook support group. Its helped me be successful in keeping my 90 lbs off! good luck to your journey!

I'll be using my care credit. I have some appointments in the Dallas area next month. Drs. Kim, Nicholson (Carlton), and one other. My friend Deb is there and we want to try to do it together. I hope one of them can do the "making surgery affordable" plan since I'm self pay. Crossing my fingers, eyes, and toes!

  14. Hi, I used Dr David Kim in Colleyville, TX. He also has a office in Frisco. Not sure where you are located. He did my inverted sleeve 3 years ago and he is a great doctor. His staff has been extremely helpful to me as well. I haven't had any complications at all other than having to have my gallbladder out. The after surgery support has been incredible. Kim Bariatrics has monthly support groups, fitness events, yearly patient Christmas party, 5k/10ks, along with many other get togethers. If it wasn't for the after surgery support I would have not been successful. If you have insurance with a bariatric exclusion there is a Making Bariatrics Affordable discount program for $4900 if you have a hiatal hernia. Do you have insurance? He also works with travelers as well. You may give them a call to get more details.

  15. My inverted sleeve surgery was with Dr Kim was 3 years ago and have not had any issues at all. I know a lot of the support group patients, and none of them have had issues with the inverted sleeve as well.

My concern about Dr. Kim is the actual inverted gastric sleeve ... and the fact that his price is half of other clinics. I'm wondering what the long term affects are from rolling stomach muscle over the surgical staples? This procedure is already a last straw ... trying to minimize having to go back in

  16. Its very unfortunate what happened to him and sad that it goes against Dr Kim's name. The media always leaves out information to make others look bad. Dr Kim is a good doc and I have no regrets in choosing him. Just because patients reply to others asking about certain doctors doesn't make them marketers, it makes them excited to share about how that doctor has effected their lives.

Dr Kim has some issues, lawsuits etc. One patient lost his legs due to a mistake during surgery by another surgeon from Kim's office (substituted without patient's knowledge).

I happen to believe that he has some marketing people on these boards occasionally posing as patients but I cannot prove that.

I used Nicholson, my procedure and recovery was textbook no issues whatsoever. 9 months out currently.

I also met with Roshack, he did my most recent follow up appointment and he seems great and very knowledgeable as well.

Nicholson is an extremely skilled surgeon and also happens to be a very nice and friendly person.

  17. Hi, Dr Kim did my inverted sleeve 3 years ago. He's done over 7500 surgeries and I highly recommend him and his office staff is very helpful and nice. I am down 90 lbs and am living life again thanks to him! I think its really cool that you are thinking of after surgery support. Well I tell ya, Kim Bariatric has the most amazing after surgery support I have heard of!! They offer monthly fitness events with Nate Newton, they are just starting monthly bike rides, Dr Kim throws his patients a really nice Christmas party every year, the private patient only Facebook support group has helped me a ton!!! We do monthly 5k/10ks, monthly Breakfast and dinner get togethers, we do fun event get togethers like painting, dancing, bowling, and we are working on doing more fun event get togethers. The FB group is like a little weight loss surgery family. I have met sooo many friends through that group. Its been so helpful for my journey to be successful! I wish the best for you on whomever you chose. :)
