    On my way to surgery!

Friends, Not to scare anyone but I'm day 2 post op in hospital. This has been the most painful thing I've experienced in my life. Wound pain, naseau, dry heaving, vomiting blood, excruciating pain moving. will I get better? *sniff sniff* I'm totally out of it. Fever, low heart rate, wheezing... Sent from my iPhone using VST

    So scared

Pray for me too mine is tomorrow! Very scary to internalize...If I think about it I freak out. I have been in the program since August. I can't believe tomorrow is my day too. I am not good at hospitals and needles...I have never had surgery. Heck I faint when given a flu shot! Hope my nerves toughen up! Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Ibuprofen Alternatives?

Id love to hear thoughts on this too. I used to rely on Advil for pain, headaches and knee pain. Now I'm told its off limits. What's a good alternative? Sent from my iPhone using VST
  5. Hi, Does anyone use the Nutribullet? I got it over 6 months ago and love it for smoothies in the morning. I am thinking it might be useful for after surgery. Any post sleevers using it? Thanks.

  7. Hi all, Has anyone traveled soon after surgery? My surgery is Feb11th, but there are some business travel dates for Singapore around March 4th. That's 3.5 weeks after. Is this too soon to travel? Any advice will help. Thx Sent from my iPhone using VST

    i hate my lapband

At Kaiser's bariatric program, we are advised against the LapBand and told it has ill effects and a poor success rate. We were given the info that only 2% of people opt for it and that too its not advised by doctors. I heard that they may even stop it here. Not to worry you, but it's good for you to do research and get correct information. Might be worth getting a second opinion and looking into what your options are.
  9. Yes I am going to be playing music...it's more a music tour than business. But I think I have to be very careful about foods and pre-plan. Surgeon said 4 weeks out is okay.
  10. Hi, Can anyone reccomend any good books about VSG or other inspirational books? I am less than 2 weeks away and would love to delve into some good reads. Thanks!

    Surgery is happening....

I know how you feel. I started my WLS journey in August of '12 and now my surgery is scheduled for Feb 11th. I am also sorta freaking out! It's intense...I am also 36 and can relate to what you describe of the knee crunching going up stairs. Heck! I even crib about a parking lot being slanted and dread walking. I am in my surgery zone right now, thinking about the actual surgery, hospital stay and getting through it all. But I think the harder part is going to be the mental challenges of having a life long change towards food. The other thing I fear is the attention from people. I find it intrusive and nosey when people notice fluctuations in my weight. I am going to have to deal with a lot of that. Good luck and keep us posted.
  12. Hi All, I got my date for Feb 11th in Kaiser South San Francisco. I am excited and nervous. It seems soo soon! I have a couple questions about sleeping and sitting on the floor. At home I sleep on a futon on the floor (prefer the floor for my back). Is this going to be an issue when I return from surgery? Should I plan for a bed? Also, how soon can I get back to sitting on the floor. I play an Indian instrument in a seated position and play every weekend. Would I be restricted in doing this soon after the surgery? Basically would getting up and down from the floor be painful? Thanks, I am sure I will have more questions. I appreciate this communtiy.
  13. Hi All, I know the doctors insist on a minimum of 2 weeks off from work. I was wondering what your experiences are. Do you really need that much time to recover? What's the soonest I could be functional again. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using VST
  14. Hi All, I am on day 3 of my pre-op diet. I realize when I am hungry or feel deprived I'm SOOOO cranky. I'm a little grumpy about feeling "starving". I feel it's not fair and start comparing myself to my "thin" friends who eat whatever they want. It's emotionally a roller coaster and draining. Any tips on getting over the cranky hump? Thanks. 15. Why is it that the doctors tell us that smoothies and Soups will be "no no's"? Please share your thoughts and experiences. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using VST
  16. Hi I am totally a newbie and am looking into the sleeve as an option for me. I am a vegetarian, I travel ALOT and I eat Indian food frequently...rice and spicy curries. Does anyone have any advice about this? How do Sleevers tolerate spicy food. Thanks!

    Any Vegetarian Sleevers? Spicy food?

Thanks all for sharing. Is it true that rice is a "no no"? Asking because it might be my only option at times when I travel in Asia. Sent from my iPhone using VST

  19. Hi Indian. I am also vegetarian and am looking to get sleeved in February. I follow and Indian vegetarain diet, but try not to eat Indian food so much because it's very high in carbs: rice and rotis (like wheat tortillas), curries with potatos etc. Sorry to cross post, but I asked this somewhere else: how do sleevers tolerate spicy foods? Since I travel alot, sometimes my only food choices would be rice and spicy curries and sometimes there's no choice! Feel free to chime in what your thoughts about this are. I too was wondering what other good protien sources there are for vegetarians. Thanks...
