  1. I'm thrilled to say that I can join those who officially can say the stalls are normal and will resolve. lol. After a painful mentally week and a half, the scale just dipped 4 pounds in 2 days. So fun when it does that.. I was not worried, as you all on this site make the journey very insightful.. However, that said, it is indeed MUCH more fun to see the scale move! Today is my 4 week post up visit and down 29 pounds , starting with a low bmi of 35 (well, low for us fatty McButterpants lol, not for the general populous. lol)
  2. All of you tri-state area ex Fatty McButterpants please check in!!!
  3. Oh. I should say, I am Rockland County NY

Only 25 Lbs In 4 Weeks!

I'm one month since I started liquid diet... I am 3 weeks and 3 days post surgery. I lost 10 pre op and then 15 more in the next week and half. Have been on a stall for 11 LONG days lol... No movement.. I even went to vegas, walked MILES everyday and ate GREAT (ie healthy and in calorie range) and came home and NADA.. That said.. 25 pounds in a month does rock.. The initial 20+ pounds is just an incredible life change for all of us and so fast that it's addictive lol.. So, I can't wait for it to go. I'll give myself 3 weeks and then get pissed.. I started with only a 35 BMI so guess I should be glad that I am in the company of weight loss of those who have much more to lose.. Interesting journey but still incredible

    Fellow Sept 17Thish Sleevers

I was done on 18th.. 10 pounds pre op and then 15 post op. But nothing in 11 days.. If i don't drop a pound by Monday, I will have weighted the same for my 2 week post op visit and my one month.. So, yep. stall, but doing it all right. Healthy food. Tracking it all. MUCH fewer calls than my 235 pound body requires. I'm fine, although it does suck, since so many talk about that happening.
  6. Ok. I know there is no such thing as too good, nor am I trying to brag.. Believe it or not, I am a bit worried that something is wrong because nothing seems wrong.. if that makes sense, lol! today is exactly one week post op! As soon as I got out of surgery, I had almost no pain and was able to walk within 2 hours. Yes, I felt some pain on day 2 after I was released from the hospital, but it was really no worse than a hard day at the gym.. My doc also put me only on one week pre surgery liquid optimist and then put me on Clear liquids ONLY during the one day hospital stay. He put me on pureed foods literally the day I got back and for two weeks. So, I started reading these forums and, well, I don't seem to hear from anyone who has it like this? My food goes down great. I got a bit of gas/reflux on the first few days, but almost nothing now.. I have no problem ingesting my 64 oz of liquid. I try to sip and not gulp, just in case, but have no issues even gulping if i want to. I get my 60 g of Protein in via one shake in the am and 3 meals throughout the day (pureed tuna/chicken/salmon or greek yogurt).. I can easily eat the full 4 oz in 5 minutes, but take at least 15 or 20 min. I am not hungry and feel great with that, but i see so many complaining about difficulty eating and drinking... So, why am I worried? I don't know.. Did they really do the surgery right? No, I'm not hungry, but probably wouldn't after any surgery. Am I stretching my stomach by eating the 4 oz in 15 minutes? I did this in the hosptial also and asked my surgeon when he visited me if I can speed up my liquid intake, as the 200ml cups were killing me and it was a chore to take an hour to eat a few ounces of puree (meaning, i can eat it much faster).. I asked the surgeon if i can just eat and drink much faster than the diet calls for, although MUCH slower than I ever have ih my life. He laughed and said sure.. I need to hydrate and if there is no pain, drink the Water as it feels comfortable (ie a half glass at a time(. he said the same about the food! Can i stretch my stomach with this food? Many of you in here write YES, but the doctors i research say that stretching takes a long time of abuse and won't happen this easily. Many of you say if you eat soft foods this quickly, I am at risk of leakage? The doctor sites and such don't agree with that.. It's the healing and need to go slow, like a baby, but that pureed food on day 2 won't cause any issues. Anyone else agree? I do LOVE this site and this is my first post, but I also know that people like to talk about things that they aren't experts on (like "no... stop eating pureed food or you will cause a leak). So, love to hear your thoughts and anyone else that has had an easy go. By definition, I think people with troubles tend to post more than people with smooth sailing...... Also, love to hear from anyone who also went on soft foods as quickly as my doc told me to. Thanks!!!
  7. Don't panic. I"m not.. I was sleeved Sep 18th. Lost 10 pounds on pre liquid then 10 the first week then 5-7 and now nothing for a week!!!! Yes, plenty of threads on here about the stalls. I researched from medical sites and the deal is that your body losing glycogen quickly, just like it did on low carb diet days.. THat as a large ratio of water to glycogen, so we lose the water weight quickly and also fat.. Pants also fit better, etc and we feel great.. once glycogen is gone, even if you were losing fat, your pants would still fit better, but the weight would be like 1/4 of the decrease as before because it's only fat and no water. Make sense? THEN, the stalls are required for your body and is very cool how it works (although I do hate mine lol), because it has to restore glycogen and it , in essence, shifts around the fat from your cells and converts it to glycogen. As someone puts it, so your body can react to running in the old days, from say, a sabertooth tiger.. So, even though you won't lose weight, as the body changes it's "insides" to glycogen, you will be way more fit and trim, just not less weight. Then it repeats.. The less dramatic the weight loss, the less this is noticeable, etc. But it's also why many people go through several stalls. I hope to be one to tell you that I got out of mine soon. I used to eat 3500 cal a day and now 1200 on a bad day. So s/b losing two or three lbs a week, but nada for like 9 days. Again, I am certain it's normal and it always used to happen to me on my diet days. hope that helps

Does Anyone Else Eat As Much As Me?

@butter, your numbers rock!!! It was encouraging. I am not discouraged as this site helped knowing people get stalls. I am stalled but eating so healthily. As stated in our other threads, I can eat anything (spicy, ground turkey, chili, etc)... I don't see a stall per your numbers. I also noticed that I was reading a lot of ladies threads, and I must assume that guys can and still will be able to eat more due to our differences in bodies, etc... I just assume if I ate 3000-4000 calories before, even if i do 1500 from time to time, i just HAVE to lose weight lol
  9. I have become addicted when I need a fast food fix (ie when I take the kids there or with a group) to wendy's chili large. Surprisingly healthy for us within reason...

Does Anyone Else Eat As Much As Me?

Because I have been tolerating food so well (I'm starting week 4 post op today), my NUT, last week, put me on a 1000-1200 diet. She warned me not to compare to others and that I will now start losing much slower and also most get stalls.. She said in the long run, it's better for my skin and gall bladder if the rate slows down, but to make sure I can handle that emotionally.. I get in 1000 min a day and up to 1200 and believe me, i COULD eat a lot more! I eat too fast (because I can, but wish I sort of had issues lol)... I also am never full when I am done, but stop and then feel quite full 30 min later and can last easily until next meal. I still feel like i am dieting, although it's easier than it's ever been thanks ot the sleeve... So, with 1200 being my number and three times at least was the number I ate before, I am confident/hopeful that it will work for me. .Too soon to tell, hence why I am reading this thread lol
  11. @butter I so agree. Many who have a lifetime of eating disorders will eat around their sleeves. These same folk will also do that whether they "lick the cheese off a dorito", "take a bit of a pretzel and spit it out" or actually take 2 bites of each and listen to what I wrote in the post. It's moot.. They need to have therapy and deal with it and it is a serious matter. NO reason to starve and torture yourself.. Black and white diets, as my point stated, are proven to not work, wheras, learning to be and eat healthy does... Don't forget, the dorito was just an example of stupid ideas people suggest, but I had suggested a bowl of soup pre op or a can of tuna post op...(if they can handle it)- None of which will take them off the health wagon.
  12. @PDX.. Ok. I do feel the same about you in terms of not listening, but let me try to answer quickly.. Yes, I so agree that telling people not to follow their docs orders is dangerous! Yes, I so agree that I am not normal in terms of how well SO FAR I have adjusted ... Tried to tell you that I am not telling people to disregard and only talking about preop and the first 2 weeks. So, yes, if a doc tells them they need two weeks of liquids, I am simply sharing that mine, as well as many others only require one week, so they can do the math or decide if they want to have a healthy snack during that 2 weeks of pre diet liquid hell. Even for me, on one week pre-op, my nurse there told me WHEN I CALLED that I could have chicken noodle soup and not to sweat it...... Re the next 2 weeks, I am not talking about how well I tolerated purees. That is NOT why he put me on them. I pointed out that he puts ALL of his patients to purees on day 2 post surgery.. NOthing to do with how well I handled my food. NOt saying they will and not saying they should do anything differently if they don't want to OR if their doc specifically told them not to do anything because of their specific issues.. People should know that many docs allow it and that the majority of posts I have read about what it will do to you if you do, as to be BS as a)then no doc would allow purees on day 2 and things like your staples getting caught in a pretzel is comical.. That was my point. People can read the whole thing I wrote (hence what it was a long post) and make their decisions if they need to obsess or just have try for ONE meal on ONE day, some tuna etc (like I or many did)..... I feel they are guidelines and tried to find out which were musts (ie need a majority liquid pre-op for liver to be nice and limber and shiny is a MUST) and which are opinions that many Docs vary on...... Re my back up, sure. But u didn't say I may or may not be a troll. You disagreed with some of my points on my replies and called me on it and also said "I have to call BS on that. No doc would tell you to have meatball".. .. So, your last post was very professional, and hence my reply to yours now is. But that was not the case.. That said.. NO doctor would put "eat meatballs" in their post bariatric diet plan.. He told me that at my two week follow up when I told him where I cheated and how well I tolerated that.. How I can't believe how many obsess and is it ok for me to try some of these things.. He and the NUT explained the risks of not being strict and eating a full bag of chips or a 4 meatballs, but told me that I should live it up and have a half if that makes it easier..". FOR ME, not for the populous. Things like the alcohol or caffein, etc should not be taken by me at all as what they should do.. HOWEVER< they should , if they wish, ask their docs and get their advice! I asked about the coffee FOR ME and about the Alcohol FOR ME". We had a discussion about the reasons and possible mental risks, but they concurred. I was just sharing. I hope this both answers your questions and explains my position so that you also finally get what I am saying.. I suggest a truce on the topic, unless we find new material to debate professionally over :-)
  13. @Kalimomo You are so right.. Yes, they don't agree, which is fine, but are ticked off. So, instead of just giving nice, professional and friendly different points of you, they try to get ant agonistical and negative.. People never cease to amaze me. I often feel both pity and sadness for people like that.. Could be a chemical imbalance; A sense of entitlement from being spoiled by family; or perhaps anger over how they were treated when they were heavier.. Who knows..
  14. I have to say.. 48 LIKES and only 4 naysayers.. ALL of us are entitled to their own opinions, of course. Keep it nice!! It is fun, though, being on the winning side of the debate per the populous :-) OOPS 18 to 4.. Same point, though
  15. U guys are hysterical. I added one quote from someone in this thread and added a two sentence preface/disclaimer for those like u who don't get it. Backtracked? Lol. No words? That's funny
  16. Yes, Debates are great and we are on here for different views.. If someone wants to do what I said, but unsure if anyone has done it, then perhaps they'll enjoy this thread. I never sling mud when people are nice and smart and have things in common. We all have the latter. The only "heated" part is when someone who was insulted that not everyone agrees with their ways, had to call me full of SH)##@ and say I am a troll, on here to just say crazy stuff to make people irate.. That's insane and not appreciated, hence my sarcasm.. But, yes, all good stuff here!
  17. Geeze, @lessofme, I don't think you have been reading clearly. I agree with you!! Same goes for any food. If YOUR OWN stomach can't handle anything don't do it.. My point was for those who know they won't stay off coffee and don't want to and whose bellies can handle it.... Then my post remains valid.. U guys who don't agree with things crack me up, but I enjoy give and take and glad there is such passion on this. Funny how the vast majority like this post and so agree and about a quarter think I'm the antichrist. I'm Jewish, but not that lol
  18. Umm @lessofme, I have not yet spoken about anything OTHER THAN the one week preop and the two weeks post op, of which I have completed just like anyone with 2 years of sleeve history.. So, not quite. That's why I don't comment on the future. I did call my DOC and said I was dying and they said to live it up pre surgery with some soup. So, feel free for anyone to call ur doc and ask.. My bro also okd it.. So, not blind on what my doc and many have told me and what I did for my first 3 weeks. Just sayin'
  19. @butter I stick to my original post. I am not lumping. I am speaking of a)the pre diet liquid obsession.. If it is killing you then have a bowl of veggie or chicken soup.. Live it up. It is PROVEN to not affect your liver for the surgery if you do it only once or twice, etc.. the post 1 to 6 week diet folk who are on liquids.. Well, since many docs allow puree on day 2, I still stick to my post and tell those who are having a hard go on week 2 or 3 or 4, etc post op liquid to live it up and take a 4 oz can of tuna, for ex, add two TB of light mayo. add some salt, dash of sugar and some onion powder and pepper and have an INCREDIBLY healthy meal (sub canned chicken if you don't like fish) that will indeed be on their lifetime diet.. It won;t hurt them was my point and I was really dealing with those obsessing on here.. I get it and was trying to help.. People fantasizing about food, what they'll have in 7 weeks, etc.. GO for it.. It's ok if your stomach can handle it.. eat slowly and wait for reaction. I'm NO doc and No shrink, of course, but was never my intention. BTW, YAY on the comment on laid back sleevers. I'm too new to know if I'll be one, but suspect I will but also am incorporating (or plan 2) the second group, that also watches healthy eating and working out etc..
  20. LOL. Love the bad relationship analogy.. So true and how I hope to end up being with food.. I wonder, though, if like this, it's different for us guys.. Sometimes, as men, we go back to bad relationships for one night, just to please ourselves.. lol
  21. @pdxman, are you still on your post op pain meds? Really? someone will troll a site and waste their time ? u r too funny. re-read what I wrote. Man. FIRST OF ALL, my doc and NUT met with me. As yours does. We talked about what I have been eating and how well it's gone and what I cheated on.. His plan for anyone on week 3 is full diet.. Protein first and good choices. So, yes, I went shopping after and bought steaks and chicken and pork chops and hard cheeses and you name it. YES< I ATE THEM TODAY . So, my friend, it does work and if you read the replies, many on here also had the same luck. I'm not suggesting that people who can't tolerate the stuff do it and any doc who would tell a patient that is having trouble to progress faster would be a quack.. I'd post my post op diet from them, but not sure if you are a troll on here, who just casually reads posts and makes pompous comments.. :-) PS. Umm, having ONE friggin Dorito instead of obsessing about licking the powder is not exactly throwing caution to the wind now, my exaggerating friend. PPS I'm grilling steaks tomorrow. If you don't see me online after, then I guess i'm the person who you can say died from it.. OY.... I also heard when his guests work up, it said "welcome to the world of aids" on his bathroom mirror and then his brother was found in the tub, filled with ice with his liver taken out... THen when going outside he heard a scratching on his car roof and went outside and found it was his friend, dead, hanging from a tree, with his feet going over the car... Then he went for gas and the attendant told him that there was an axe murderer hiding in his back seat.. OY

Are My Eyes Playing Tricks On Me?

I have already and i'm only 3 weeks in total... I experienced it a a lot during my life. Research it. You need to really weigh yourself once a week and ideally in the morning and nude. Your body changes weight each day based upon many factors that affect fluid retention, etc.. So, that is normal. I do go on it a few times a day and can vary 1.5 pounds in same day.. During my past stalls, I still found clothes fit much better, and that is also your body's way of adjusting from what I have researched..

    Popcorn

I took my kids on day 13 to a Pro soccer game. My daughter got a big bucket. I ate a handful.... Would have eaten half the bucket before, lol. It was delish and I personally, had no issue with it. We all react differently to different foods, but I plan on eating it here and there down the road.. However, do note, I am one of those who have had no pain and ease with liquids and foods..
