    September Was Your Progress?

If it makes some feel better, I, too, am in quite the stall. I was 210.5 on Jan 8 and am 208.5 here on March 8. A whopping 2 pounds in two months! So, join the club, lol. No, not uncommon.. You should know, that my NUT and doc remind me to share with my groups that weight loss numbers are irrelevant to compare. They said that we should, if anything, compare the percentage of excess weight lost and not actual lbs. For example, My IDEAL for a male 5 '11 is 160 lbs (absurd, of course). I weighed 260 at surgery. Thus my excess weight was 100 lbs. They put me at a target goal of 200 lbs, which would be 60% weight loss. I am at 52% now..... Not bad at all, they remind me!! In fact, early on, losing weight was just darned fun for all of us and relatively easy. I recall on my 2nd or 3rd month checkup telling them how I would stop around 190 or 195, as I don't want to get too thin. They all chuckled and told me "if only your body worked that way".. In other words, what is easy now will become hard. Your body fights tooth and nail to get you to a normal weight. It does not like rapid weight loss and will always way slow it down... Think of it this way.. why do they estimate 50-80% weight loss after 6 months to a year My target was 60%, which they would be happy with and which I will hit! If it was that easy, the stats would show 80-100%. IT's not for most people being lazy that they don't hit their numbers! So, I wish it came off like before.. I also eat plenty of calories (those of you starving yourselves, read about the 1200 minimum calories pages all over the web to see why you have stopped losing weight); I work out like an FN machine now, lol. Sure, some of my weight is muscle. I feel and look great. Like a million bucks, so feel good that I'm not the only one... But at getting close to 60% of my excess weight gone, i'm way happy!
  2. I was sleeved September 2012. I have kept pretty close to my Nut suggestions for daily calories. However, since I do drink occasionally and also have had some "off" days, I have had a few days where I have eaten 2,000 calories. I was curious who else has strayed into the 2,000 area or even beyond. I can't be the only one! :-) For what it's worth, my NUT put me on 1,600 a day as of Jan 2013, up from 1200-1300. I also workout 5 days a week. Anyone else feel guilty at 2,000? Funny in that this would have been a good day in my old days lol

    September Was Your Progress?

I only did 2,000 3 times in the past month or two. I am averaging (and track it on myfitnesspal) 1600/day gross and net around 1200. I don't focus on net.. I just want to keep the gross around 1600. Yes, the stall is annoying.. I do work out and feel great and am off all meds but for the ursodiol (for possible weight loss induced gall stones).. so, curious as to any guys out there who have had the same, etc..

    September Was Your Progress?

I asked this in another forum, but really mostly curious about my September co sleevers here. I def need to lower my calories. I am averaging around 1600 per day and in a 2 month stall. My nut isn't concerned, as i am only 8 lbs from my goal weight and she would rather i go slower. I started at 265. 260 at surgery and 208 today with goal of 200.. I did have three 2,000 calorie days in the past month. I am a man, lol. To point out, I read about most folk on here under 1,000 calories. Anyone else on here similar to me? I am torn, as I don't want to get stretchy skin.. I also burn 400 calories a day working out and don't want my body to get used to really low calories nor lower my metabolism I am only torn, as I wished I was at my 200 lg goal already (my personal goal was 185++, but that aint happening).. So, I'm curious. Do tell!?

    September Was Your Progress?

Yeah. Tiny tiny part of me is frustrated that the addictive days of losing a pound a day are gone :-(. THEN I remember that I/we am/are down FIFTY FRIGGIN POUNDS in less than 4 months LOL. I wake up sometimes that it was all a dream. So I put it into perspective :-). Similarly, if I recall the past few January/new years, I do believe I wouldn't go NEAR a scale for fear of the obvious bad news. Soooo WE ROCK!!!

    September Was Your Progress?

I will add the same advise!!!! I was done on dep 18.. Down 50 lbs as of today. I have hit a few stalls and way too frequent.. I have only dropped eight lbs in 8 weeks!!! I watch calories and have worked out a TON in past 2 months. My doc said i am crazy and that most people don't lose 50% of excess wight until 6 months.. Also, we hit our set point and , to be honest, i feel great at 210 lbs today, even though I was hoping for 190

    September Was Your Progress?

I had a taste of some sweets. I think I did really well. Sure, I blew my cal count out of the water for the day. Came in around 1800.. That said, that is what I'll have when I am maintaining at goal weight and normally (as my family did), xmas would have had me ingesting prob 4,000 calories.. We aren't machines, so I am thrilled with it :-)

    How many calories?

Everyone is diff and also depends upon your goal. The shakes/liquid diet tend to give you 800/day and also all your protein. Follow your doc and nut plan and you'll be fine.
  10. NJSleeveboy

    How many calories?

That's up to your Dr and NUT, however, over time most on here tend to be in 800-1100/day range.. If still on liquids, likely 600-900
  11. NJSleeveboy

    Am I eating too much!?

Funny. I wish I felt those restrictions. I can eat a huge salad from anywhere, no problem. The good news is that they are now always healthy choices (lean protein and low calorie dressings in small amts).. However, I can't complain, as it does tend to fill me up and would never have come close in my old life... Still. no worries.

    New Here Need Advice

I was sleeved Sep 18th. was 260 starting liquid diet.. Down 40 pounds now.. Similar to you, but i'm a guy and heavier to start! Guys are easier to lose in general. YOU have lost a ton. I, too, go through this when I get stalls and upset I only lost a few pounds.. This Thanksgiving I stayed the same. Didn't lose an ounce and I was upset! LMAO.. In past years, I would have been thrilled to only have gained 5 pounds. >It's all relative
  15. Listen.. Admitting defeat would be sitting in your chair in your living room and continuing to put on weight and not live your life! MOST people won't take this step! You have accepted that you have an issue and are going to make it happen! This isn't defeat!!! You will see, people will be proud that you took action to fix your health and life and you should be also! :-)
  16. I don't need the site anymore, as I have had zero problems since surgery.. HOWEVER, I did promise an update or two to some folk! I was one of those who had no issues.. Was on liquid diet for only one week pre-op.. Then went to soft foods the day after surgery and normal diet, really, the week after that! I was 265 at peak.. got to 260 start of liquid diet and am 218 today.. so, 42 pounds since surgery/pre-op.. My diabetes is all gone already! Was a 224 fasting glucose and now 77. My Vitamin D deficiency- GONE.. My blood pressure at lowest level (and normal) EVER.. cholesterol all great. .WOW.... I use myfitnesspal app to track my calories. Bear in mind, I started much lighter than most and really never had true mental issues with food.. Just bad habits. So, I allow myself to eat only healthy foods.. I do eat and try some cake or other items, but it just makes me ravenous later, so I avoid them. I can eat my veggies and meats and carbs in any order...... I often wake up hoping this has not been a dream. It's incredible. I just post this , NOT TO BRAG, but simply to give hope to those who are about to undergo the surgery or who are struggling in the early days. Time flies and I could not be happier with all of this! Carpe Diem!
  17. @amazon, I stopped posting a while back because of angry people . Not sure how you see gloating or meanness, but to each their own. I agree with iggychick. I thought it important to note that I didnt have as much to lose, so that people wouldn't slap me for not noting that.. Anyway, if it encourages one person, which it seems that it has, I am glad I posted
  18. Ok. I know this a no no and i'm a bit more than 4 weeks post op. I have had an incredible run.. I also started drinking on dates (ok'd by my doc as long as they say I know they are empty calories) and obviously, i'll sip on wine or the cocktail while eating.. I also have drank at the same time as eating once in a while when the food was too dry.. I have also been approved for coffee and since I have that first thing (and sometimes MUST eat when I get up due to work), I often drink coffee and breakfast at same time. I know the only reason to do this (ie separate them by 30 minutes min) if you have no gastro issues (which I don't) is to not liquify your food and thus keep you full longer. I really don't personally see a difference from when I drink or not. I am full the same (nicely full, btw), so wanted to hear from others, especially veterans, to see if I am just being hopeful or wonder if I can eat and drink together like a normal human (less than a glass of liquid though) for the rest of my life? Do tell?!

Anyone Eating & Drinking At The Same Time?

Well, a not great update for me, but ok.. I had my bro's big bday bash at a fancy rest. 8pm reservations and we finished at midnight. So, I had 1.5 glasses of wine BEFORE any food. Not good on an empty and then, well, i ate well there and only cheated with one piece of whole grain bread. BUT, it became VERY bad right as main was done.. Got horrible gas and cramps and then headed to the bathroom for a half hour. felt great 30 min later or so, but def dumping sydrome and I will be careful. Still curious to hear from vets.
  20. So, I have seen many discussions about some stalls, but no where that all can share their stories.. Can you quickly share for me when you first had your stall (how many weeks or months post op) and how many week(s) did it last?
  21. NJSleeveboy

Anyone Eating & Drinking At The Same Time?

oh and @pookey, yes, I want to learn from the vets and if those who drink/eat together put more weight back on, then I'm all against doing that. Not a real hassle and i know taking one sip for a dry mouth wont hurt me.. THat's why I'm here! I share what I now know pre-op and one month and look to learn from others ahead of me -)

Anyone Eating & Drinking At The Same Time?

@pookey. Great post! I'm not drinking much at all when I eat. I only sip on a cocktain for a date once or twice a week. ONe glass of wine over 90 minutes, etc... I often don't finish the wine.. I try to keep space between them, so was asking, since I did try once with the coffee and had no issue. My breakfasts are so small, that i can't see any stretching, etc, so I am indeed be careful, for sure.. Was curious about long run. The stretching, though, I still think is an old wives tale. I know it is VERY possible and those who fail often do stretch it. But I have seen sites that say it's much harder than you think and have to disregard your good eating habits. but my doc said no way will that affect me. since no issues with how I feel, he and the nut made it clear that they don't condone it for the habits and for my need to eat more when I do that..

Anyone Eating & Drinking At The Same Time?

@tamara. This was from BariatricChoice I have seen it also on a lot of medical sites (not forums). We are both right, it seems. HOWEVER, I disagreed and still do with the stomach stretch. My doc bro, my surgeon and my nut all say that's nonsense and the reason for me was the fullness.. GOod point on dumping syndrome (again, not an issue for me) Avoid drinking fluids with meals. Drinking fluids with meals may may force foods through your small stomach pouch too quickly, causing you to become hungry again quickly. It can also cause abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and a situation called dumping syndrome in gastric bypass patients. Then, this from the Mayo Clini Drink liquids between meals. Drinking liquids with your meals can cause pain, nausea and vomiting as well as dumping syndrome. Also, drinking too much liquid at or around mealtime can leave you feeling overly full and prevent you from eating enough nutrient-rich foods. Expect to drink at least 6 to 8 cups (48 to 64 ounces or 1.4 to 1.9 liters) of fluids a day to prevent dehydration.

Anyone Eating & Drinking At The Same Time?

@Tamara. As noted, I agree with the dumping syndrome. However, as I mentioned, I don't have any when I do both. no nausea or implications. They still don't want me or any patient from doing it as it turns to sludge and leaves you full for a lesser amount of time. I am referring to advise on the latter, for those who don't have dumping syndrome.. Make sense?

Anyone Eating & Drinking At The Same Time?

@tamara, I don't think you are right. Everything I have read has to do with liquification.. Liquid leaves your stomach very quickly (hence why you want to avoid slider foods_.. Drinking right before you eat, fills ur stomach with liquid and then when you eat, it liquifies and passed out of your stomach faster. Eating while does the same and drinking right after also liquifies it. the only reason i have ever read (and told my both my doc and nut) is to help you be satiated longer and thus eat less. The stretching the stomach stuff that some post on here is not true. Although it can be done with a lot of overeating (and a lot), no way liquid will do that... I do agree some have dumping like syndrome and correct there
