Measuring And Weighing Liquids And Food
My first week out I was very careful to measure my 2oz of clear liquids but when it comes to drinking at 16 days out I don't really measure by the oz anymore and I sip through out the day on my water or Crystal Light. I now how many oz are in the bottle or my cup but I'm not as careful with the 4oz rule I am at now. Same goes for my protein shakes. I just sip on them for like an hour until they are gone which is 11oz. Or if I just want a little I will only drink half and save the rest for later. My point is, is it bad that I am freely drinking through out the day? When it comes to meats I am more cautious. Small can of Tuna is 3oz and last night when I had chicken breast I did weigh the piece and it came in just under 8oz so I ate half of it. I'm not going crazy weighing and measuring I'm just letting my body take the lead especially when it comes to liquids. I am sure not to drink before, during and after meals tho! What is every one else doing?

Gaining Weight Unbelievable!
I was the same way only a couple days ago. 2 weeks in I gained 2lbs. There were a few things I was doing wrong. # I was weighing my self whenever I wanted even daily. I need to stick to one time a week in the morning. #2 I was taking in too many carbs, so I cut all that out. #3 I wasn't hitting my protein or water goals for the day. And finally I am a woman. I retain water and I have cycles. My weight is gonna go up and down. You will make out just fine!

I'm Gaining Weight 2 Weeks In?!?!
Today I did much better, I weighed myself in the morning and I have only gained one pound. I had greek yogurt for breakfast, half a protein shake for a snack then for lunch I had tuna mashed with lite mayo. For a snack I had another half of my protein shake and for dinner I ate half a baked chicken breast. I do need to up my water intake. I am only at about 30 oz. I already have tomorrow's meals planned out so I think I have myself started back on the right track and hopefully will be able to jump start my weight loss again! Thank you everyone for your words of encouragment! I will keep you all updated as to how I make out in the coming days!

When did you have your surgery?

My Final Diet Plan
I'm happy that you are finally going thru with the surgery! I had mine done on 9/26. It was a hard decsion to make but I made it pretty quickly. I too have very high blood pressure and I am much younger than you! I was headed down a scary road at a rapid speed. My surgery went well and all the worrying was for nothing. I healed up great, minimal pain. I have hit a rough spot in this second week with wanting and indulging in food I should not eat, but I started over today actually! It is easier to stay on track after surgery then it was before so that is a great help! Before if I was craving something I would eat something else that was healthy hoping the urge would go away. It rarely did. Now I drink a protein shake or some water and I am full!! I have learned that this is only a tool and I can screw it all up easily. It does take a lot of hard work! Good luck to you!

What Are Sleevers Eating 5-6 Weeks Out
ProudGrammy, I did get ahead of myself. I experimented and it didn't go badly so I kept going with it. Shocker my weight lost stopped and I gained a pound. I have gone back to basics and I started over today I am more closely following the diet I am suppose to be on except for pureed meat. I cannot do that. I will mash it up but I can't blenderize it. At this point I am suppose to be getting most of my protein from food but I can still use shakes if need be. I'm still scared tho that I have been able to eat relatively normally. I wonder if the doc didn't tighten me up enough inside or something. I see my doctor Monday the 15th and I have to make an appt. with my Nutritionist. I wanted to wait for my solid food diet tho cause I can only go her so many times under insurance and then I have to start paying for it!

What Are Sleevers Eating 5-6 Weeks Out
I see so many people comcerned that they cannot eat certain foods at 4,5 and 6 weeks out, but I am beyond concerned that I can eat almost anything at 2 weeks out with out any problems!!! I want to have issues because it will help keep me in line, but I can eat almost anything just not a lot of it. That can't be good either. I wish I had sensitivities to food, but I don't. I haven't had any issues since the first week. Some things would hurt going down, but now nothing does. I can take rather decent sized bites with out a problem too and I don't have to chew everything to the point of nothing.

I'm Gaining Weight 2 Weeks In?!?!
Wow, mushy food for 5 weeks. No, I'm able to move onto semi-solids next week, but they want me to eat blenderized meat this week and I can't. That to me is just disgusting. I don't mind mushing up my veggies or eating chicken salad or tuna salad tho or even mashing up a small piece of fish. I re-read my manual last night and they want me to cut down on my shakes and start trying to get my protein from food. I'm starting over today and totally regrouping. I am cutting out all unnecessary carbs. I don't know what you can and cannot do and I don't want to be the one to say go for it, but what I have learned is every doctor is different and every post op diet is different. Some move way faster than others and it seems like your's moves way slower than others.

I'm Gaining Weight 2 Weeks In?!?!
Sleeve Guru, I don't see how you can say I'm not listening. I just posted what I'm doing, I am aware of what I am eating. Sorry I do not know off hand how much protein is in a slice of turkey, but I know it's meat and therefore a protein. I understand many people have to avoid breads for months, mine just says soft white breads and no pasta. Like I said this week I am allowed mashed potatoes and oatmeal. That is carbs, but I am allowed that from my manual given to me by my doctor after my surgery. I am listening and like I just posted I will try harder, but I don't need to feel put down by you or have an imaginary argument made up by you either.

I'm Gaining Weight 2 Weeks In?!?!
My husband also thinks that I am not very smart for weighing myself in the evening too. He also thinks water retention and also my cycle will affect my weight. He is right, I know he is. I still wasnt expecting that. Tomorrow I will scratch everything and start over and be better. I should have had the turkey with out bread and the same for the chicken salad. I just thought I was okay with eating the thin bread and taking the top piece off, but I guess even a little bit is too much. When it comes to the carb thing tho the manual my doctor gave me says that I can eat mashed potatoes and oatmeal this week. Thats all carbs. I'm so confused. I just hope it gets better.

I'm Gaining Weight 2 Weeks In?!?!
I probably am not hitting the 60 gram mark, but I have to be close. I do try to eat protein food. The cereal has 10 grams for a cup, but I can't eat an entire cup of cereal yet. Plus the 1% milk it's in has protein. The greek yogurt has 8 grams and the turkey and cheese on the sandwich has protein and of course the chicken salad has protein too. I will drink a protein shake tonight for my evening snack which has 15grams of protein. It has to be pretty high up there. I do try to watch the carb intake that's why I buy thin bread and or only eat the bottom slice on a sandwich. I'm just down on myself tonight I will try harder tomorrow, but if I am gaining because I'm eating these foods I don't know if I will ever be able to eat anything then. I certainly don't think I am eating badly.

I'm Gaining Weight 2 Weeks In?!?!
I was sleeved on 9/26/12. I lost 29lbs between the pre-surgery diet and after surgery, but today after work I noticed my pants were like seriously falling off me so I decided to hop on the scale to see where I was at and I actually gained 2lbs!! I am beside myself. I have been eating very healthy. Today for instance I ate soggy Special K Protein cereal for breakfast (low sugar), for a snack I had greek yogurt for lunch I ate half a turkey sandwich with only one piece of rye bread (one slice rye bread with turkey and swiss cheese on top sliced in half with lite mayo). For dinner I had chicken salad made with lite mayo on thin 100% whole wheat bread(thin bread, not normal bread), Am I eating too much?? What am I doing wrong? I have moved foward on my diet faster then I should of but these foods are not bothering me at all. So long as I take small bites and chew thoroughly I am fine. I could go back to eating mush which I think I am starting tomorrow, but what happens next week when I can start eating these foods?? Everything I ate today is "safe food" in my manual just for next week not this week. It's not like I am eating cookies and ice cream and junk food. The reason I had this surgery was because even when I ate right it did nothing, and now after surgery even though I can only eat a few ounces of healthy food I'm gaining weight. Did I just go thru all this for nothing?? I wanted to be down to 250 by the end of this week and now I am back up to pushing 260...

How Are You Doing September 2012 Sleevers?
I had surgery 9/26. The absolute hardest part right now is the full liquid diet I'm on. I can have low fat cream soups, protein shakes, water, sugar free pudding, jello and popsicles. I AM DYING! It has been a struggle and I have snuck bites of healthy food like chicken and soft veggies. I just have had a really hard time with this stage of the diet. In a couple days I start the pureed food stage. I'm hoping that it gets easier. I have had some issues with gas pain during and directly after eating. Once I burp it usually goes away. Not sure if I'm over eating, but I am careful to measure out what I'm eating. I'm just looking foward to being able to start cooking healthy meals and being able to enjoy a healthy lifestyle!

Pre-Surgery Jitters
I am now one day post-op!! I am waiting to do a test to make sure I can drink fluids and there aren't any leaks. The pain is moderate. It kinda feels like a bad case if the flu. They give me morphine shots thru my IV and although is makes me feel like I may vomit it helps alot! I will continue to keep everyone posted!

Pre-Surgery Jitters
One more day to go!! I go in tomorrow! I can honestly say the post op diet was hard but doable. Like I said I did have a bite here and there, but I still lost over 14lbs in two weeks and I am already in a pair of jeans I haven't been able to comfortably wear since before I got pregnant in 2010. That definately helped the motivation! I will keep everyone updated!! Thank you so very much for all your kind words!

12 Lb Loss After 4 Days On Pre Op Diet
Congrats! I started my pre-surgery diet on 9/12 and have only lost 10lbs. I have 5 more days til surgery! Good luck!

Pre-Surgery Jitters
Thank you!! I know the liquid diet is important and I have done really well on it. I think. I am allowed more on it than other people that I have read are allowed. I have caved and taken a bite of meat here and there, but I have not gone past that and it's only been chicken. No carbs, no sweets, no meals. The hardest part is drinking all the water. I have not completed that everyday! I pee constantly! I feel like I'm in my last month of pregnancy. I'm up 3-4 times a night to use the bathroom! I just hope this is the right decision.

Pre-Surgery Jitters
I've visited this wensite a few times over the past few months. Mostly looking for info and thoughts and support and everything inbetween. I never signed up, but I did today. My surgery is scheduled for the 26th of this month. As in next week. As in 6 days. I have been so sure of everything I was doing. So confident, and right now I am scared out of my mind. I am so worreid about complications and dying on the table. Not waking up. I'm worried that the surgery is going to go wrong and I am gonna be using a feeding tube for the rest of my life. I'm wondering if I should back out and get my $2000 co-pay back and really work hard on regular excerise and eating right (which never worked before for any decent length of time). I have a baby at home, well a toddler. I'm doing this surgery for her. So I can be a healthy fit mom. So I can run around with her and not be easily winded. So I can show her what being healthy is all about and what to eat and do to live a long healthy life. I want to be a good example. I want to be a better wife. I want to be more comfortable in sexual situations. My God I have been with my husband for 12 years. Married for 5 on 10/5/12. Why do I shudder when he touches my stomach!?!?! I'm one week into my liquid diet, which is so confusing. I always feel like I'm doing it wrong. Which I would be lying if I said I did it by the book, but over all I am proud of myself. I quit smoking on 9/3 started a liquid diet on 9/12 and today I just drastically cut down on my coffee intake. My liquid diet consists of full liquids. So I'm allowed to have cream soups and cottage cheese and farina. I'm allowed yogurt also. I've lost 10lbs this week. I spoke to my bariatic coordinator about an employee party that was suppose to take place tomorrow but was postponed to next week. I wanted to know if it would be okay to eat a piece of chicken. Not that I wanted to cheat but I wanted to know. She said yes, but to chew it til it was paste and then swallow it. She said the issue is I should not be producing stool. Well, I am. Not alot of course and nothing like before but I still am and I told her that and she said everything is fine. So it brings me to the question of whether or not this diet is 100% neccessary. You can shrink your liver by cutting out carbs and sugars, you don't have to go to straight liquids. So why am I not suppose to be pooping, or why do I need to avoid producing it???? Does anyone know? And cottage cheese isn't a liquid so wouldn't that come out a solid??? Very confusing to me. Any advice anyone has and words of encouragement and info on the pre-surgery diet would be so nice and helpful!
