  1. Wish I was starting on mushy foods today but I have to wait till day 14 to do mushy foods :-(

I didn't weigh myself for about 5 or 6 days after surgery because I was in the hospital for 4 days and was pumped with fluids the whole time so I figured it would be quite a gain. But I had lost all those fluids by the time I weighed.

Did your doc have you take Prevacid?

  2. Kind of an amusing question' date=' but I really want to know where weight goes when you lose it? I learned in high school science class that matter can't be created or destroyed. If I go to bed, then wake up 4 lbs lighter, where did those 4 lbs go? I didn't pee them out. Do they get converted to energy? Sometimes I feel like they're being passed out of my mouth in the form of bad breath.[/quote']

BigDaddyJoe, we were sleeved the same day...how many pounds of bad breathe have you lost?

  3. So I'm 6 days post op. ice Water seems to be my best friend. Warm things don't go down so well. I need to find a way to get more Protein in. My shakes all seem nasty now. I've lost a total of 17 lbs since I started my pre-op diet. 11 of those has been since surgery. I had some issues with surgery and spent like 9 or 10 hours in recovery. My heart rate was double what it normally is. I pretty much slept all of Friday and Saturday and stayed in hospital till Monday afternoon after some terrible bouts with dry heaves. I really had no pain other than in my chest when I swallowed. I hardly ever used my pain pump. My surgeon used 1 hole through my belly button which was very cool because I was expecting 4 or 5. Overall not a bad experience.

  4. I had mine a day before you ladies. March 7th. Day 5 for me is today and it has been the turning point. I feel really good. Gas pains in my back and shoulders have subsided to a minimum. I think I want to try so some creamy Soup a little later. I was feeling like a knot in my chest everytime I swallowed - between my breast bone and that has gone too. So I am getting in way more liquids.< /div>

I was sleeved on the 8th. I pray the pain when I swallow will go away soon. I'm def not getting enough liquids in. I went in for surgery on Friday the 8th and didn't come home till Monday afternoon. Had some terrible nauseousness. Starting to feel pretty week, haven't had anything bit Powerade zero and sugar free Popsicles.

  5. I'm starting to worry' date=' now that I'm doing the pre-op diet. I worry because the whole thing seems like just that, a diet. And I've failed at them so many times. It seems like a cross between the Atkins diet with all the Protein and low carbs, and the weight watchers diet with all the measuring and weighing of the food. I wanted the surgery because I want to feel full and be able to eat less, and not be a slave to food. But it seems like I will be even more of a slave to food, making sure to eat the right things, and the right amounts. I hope that it eventually will become easy, and second nature. Am I alone in these fears?[/quote']

I believe after a while it will just become second nature. I know someone who was sleeved a year ago and he eats whatever he wants and a Protein Shake everyday...thing is his wants changed and he always goes for protein first plus he's hardly ever hungry. Also if he does make a bad choice it's in such small portion that it doesn't affect his weight loss very much.

I don't think you're alone in feeling that way though.

I've lost 5.3 lbs this first week on my preop. I've never lost that much ever in a week. I wonder if I should be doing this...but then I realize, of course I should... If I don't I'll just get bigger.

  6. I'm in MD too. The way for approval wasn't that bad for me' date=' but the wait for the surgery is. My mom was just diagnosed with cancer and has to get a surgery ASAP so I will be postponing mine to take care of her. I am scheduled for march 8 but I think I'm going to postpone further :-/[/quote']

My mom has done very well and insists that I do not postpone. :-) so I'm still set for next Friday march 8th.

  7. Just wanted to throw this out there. Don't wait too long to start your pre-op testing once your approved and you doc gives you the list of tests to do. My list was broken down in items to do within 120 days and some for within 30 days from surgery date. I waited until 2 1/2 weeks before surgery to start the 30 day list. I didn't realize how long it can take for some stuff. For example a gallbladder ultrasound. I go for that Monday...and it's my last thing to do. My surgery is next Friday! I may get my date pushed out if those results don't make it to my surgeon before my pre surgery appt on Wednesday. I've been running around like crazy the last week to different appointments and i ran into a few snags with some of my tests so I needed additional appointments. Thank goodness I have an understanding boss and lots of leave.

  8. We have the same surgery day! I am so excited but also very nervous. Some of my family does not understand why I would do the sleeve and not the band. They think the sleeve is to invasive and I should opt for the band instead. From the first seminar I knew I wanted to have the sleeve. I am diabetic and take 4 insulin shots a day' date=' I check my blood sugar 4 times a day as well. I also have COPD and Rheumatoid Arthritis and like others I am tired of being sick! I feel the sleeve is the best fit for me and my lifestyle. I am nervous, but I am so excited to have this done.[/quote']

Rinamatie- are you type 1 or 2? I'm type 1 and very nervous about my sugars during the surgery and healing time.

  9. I'm very worried that my surgery date will be pushed back some. I'm scheduled for march 8 and my hubs comes home march 7. He travels three weeks out of every month and i really need him here for this, especially to care for our son and pets. I've done my EDG, sleep study, pregnancy test and blood test. I still need my medical clearance, gallbladder ultrasound and chest X-ray. I'm going Tuesday to my PCP for my medical clearance and they should have my test results, order my X-ray and ultrasound. I know i dont need an appt for the xray so i plan to get that immediately following my appt. My surgeons office told me that I was cutting it very close that I might not make it in time with the cardiac clearance and the gallbladder ultrasound. my PCP said they do the EKG at my appt and as long as its normal they will clear me on the cardiac part but surgeons office says that I need to see a cardiologist for clearance. So confused :-/ I really thought the surgeons office would have helped me more with properly scheduling all the pre op stuff. I've had to contact them for most everything instead of them contacting me. They did give me a great binder full of info but the list of tests and clearances is just a list...it would have been helpful if it said "cardiac clearance - schedule at least X days before surgery date" or something like that. It just says it has to be with in 30 days of surgery, I hope my PCP can take care of that and they can get a rush on my ultrasound.. Uggg. I hope my plans don't fall through.

  10. Just starting day 3 of my pre op diet. So far so good. For those of you that are allowed a Lean and Green meal' date=' I need some ideas. What is everybody eating? My doctors office didn't give me any rules for these meals!!!!! So far I have been eating chicken breasts and salads....[/quote']

How about a homemade sorta taco salad? I take chicken breast cut it in cubes and sauté it. Then add taco seasoning and instead of adding Water, I add a half can of black Beans with all the juice from the whole can and cook it per the taco seasoning directions. Put the chicken snd beans on salad greens. No need for dressing, the taco seasoned black beans and juice is super yummy as the dressing. Not sure if that's ok for your particular diet but I like it.
