  1. Hi ladies' date=' a little of track from current conversations but I need to tap into your wisdom and awesome advice! My beloved team- Hawthorn have just made it to the grand final next week and my original plan was to fly down to watch the game but unfortunately I can't :-( I am however organising a get together to watch the game either at my place or a venue. I was more leading to my place as I don't really want to pay ridiculous amounts of money for a lunch I cannot eat. So if I was to cater, what could I add for myself that won't be too far from what everyone else is eating? I will be 2 weeks and 4 days post op. thinking a range of finger foods. Only 2 people there will know I've been sleeved. Appreciate your advice!!!![/quote']

    Hi Kayargh,

Being a mad Demons supporter, it has been some (longggg) years since my team was in the grandy. But!! I watch it regardless because I adore the sport. My observations from the many functions I've attended/thrown are that if it is a good, tight contest then people aren't interested in eating as they're too busy watching. Finger food platters definitely because everyone will just assume you've been picking at it like they have all afternoon. Don't have the food on the coffee table in front of the TV, maybe put it on a table behind where everyone is sitting. If you go somewhere else for a function, just say you we're bloody hungry so had a Bunnings sausage sizzle before you came.

I truly don't think anyone will notice. If they do, you're "too nervous to eat". Or you're eating your fingernails with anticipation. Or the butterflies are taking up all the room. Drop some "it's my fingernails or the wall like Alastair Clarkson" type comments.

I'll be cheering for your boys!!

  2. Hi all,

Just thought I'd introduce myself. I am Amy, from Perth. I was sleeved by Dr Cohen at Mercy Hospital on 6th September. Best. Thing. I've. Ever. Done.

I feel like I know you all as I've been stalking this thread since the day after my surgery (entertaining myself in hospital).

Just jumped on the scales; am 9kg down, 2weeks postop. Woohoo!!

  3. 1. Was the pain really bad' date=' I mean moaning groaning on the verge of tears pain?

    2. Was there nausea, how long? (This scares me the most I HATE nausea!!!)

    3. How long till you were back at work? Do you really need only 2 weeks?

    4. Did you all have feeling of anxiety to the point you though about backing out?

    5. At what point do you start feeling normal again (food & Energy wise)

    6. Did anyone go to Dr. Craig Taylor?

    [/quote']

    Hi Mimz!

I'm 12 days post-op so all these answers are coming fresh!

    1. Pain was relatively minor. Some discomfort stemming more from the drips and inability to sleep on my tummy (which I'm back to doing now no problem). My wounds have healed beautifully and cause me no pain (just itchiness from the healing!)

    2. No nausea. I did experience it a bit about 5 days post op but have now realised that was more lightheadedness, due to not having enough Protein. I've rectified that in my diet and am nausea free (I am notoriously weak stomached; I get nauseous sleeping on air mattresses)

    3. My surgery was Thursday 6th and I went back Thursday 13th. However, I was totally fine by Monday and was contemplating going back earlier (partly because I was bored out of my brain. Usually when I'm bored, I eat, so that was a new experience!)

    4. I was never anxious. Odd considering I suffer with anxiety and depression. But I was so focused on how my life was going to change for the better that I didn't have time to get anxious. Best thing I did was have the surgery because even though I've only lost 8kgs so far my self-confidence is on the rise and my daily anxiety receding!

    5. I feel SO much more energy now. Pre-op, I was a massive napper. I always felt lethargic and planned my weekends around being able to have a nap mid-afternoon. I even used to go into the spare office at work and sleep the whole of my hour lunch break. I haven't had a nap since surgery. As food regular food, not there yet but I'm cool with that, especially watching the number on the scales go down!

    6. I'm in Perth so no.. My surgeon was fantastic though and the aftercare is beyond belief!

  4. I couldn't stand the Optifast shakes so I went to a health food store and just bought 100% whey Protein isolate. I make my own smoothies and add this (because it's flavourless) and I'm noticing a massive difference in my weight loss already.

If you don't mind the shakes, there is a brand called "body" who do a slew of flavours and they've got by far the highest Protein content of any of shakes I've looked at (and I've looked at a LOT!)

  5. Haha she is a complete clown!! Best way to describe her.

I'm doing better with the fluids. Still hard but I'm definitely not hungry. 6kg down!

My main source (really, only source) of pain is my left wrist with two failed canulla's. So much so, that I was on the phone for half an hour with the 24 hour GP. Bruising is spreading and the ache is constant. Going to the docs tomorrow.

  6. I think you're right; dehydration is my main problem. I rang the dietician and from what I told her, she says I'm not getting enough fluids in. So I've got my bottle of diet cordial (with the minimum amount I need to drink throughout the day) and my daily goal is to finish that. Any fluids above are just a bonus!!

I love your name Doxieville; I've got two dachshunds myself!

  7. I was sleeved on the 5th. What did you eat that made you dump? If you don't mind.

I have absolutely no idea. Actually...that's kind of a lie. I shook a bottle of diet lemonade until there were no more bubbles and had some of that (I was cravingggggg it).

I think it was too syrupy even though it was diet. If it wasn't that, then it was just because I ate too much.

  8. Hi all,

My first post here (woo virgin!). I was sleeved on Thursday 6th Sept so only 4 days post op. I'm concerned about my hunger and need some advice please!

My surgeon says if I can pick it up with a fork, I can't eat it (read: mushy, puréed food and nourishing liquids only) So, I went to town buying jelly, Soup, baby custard, yoghurt etc. plus stocking up on Optifast shakes. Determined to do this right.

Will someone PLEASE tell me why I'm still so hungry? I am eating the recommended amount of the recommended things and I'm so hungry. If I DO eat more than I am told I should, I don't vomit, get dumping or reflux. I am so worried I'm going to stretch already. Everyone else says they don't even feel like food and have to force themselves to eat. I could eat anything (even the chicken pie family had for tea...!)

    *sigh*.

  9. P.s. not having my back hurt ALL the time!!! It hurts right now just from sitting on the edge of the bed typing that post!!!

Yes!! My back always hurts. Always.

I will not miss claiming that tops don't fit me because of my "long body". HELLO: it's your wide body that it doesn't fit over.

I will not miss sweating. So much sweating. And finding that no matter how slowly I go, I sweat. Once I start, it doesn't stop. hair sticks to the back of my neck, top has sweat Patches within seconds

I will not miss counting new stretch marks every morning.

I will not miss shoe stores being the only regular stores I can shop in

I will not miss feeling 3x my age when I'm only 25.
