  1. Why does my pre-op diet s_ _k and everyone elses seems to be more manageable?! 5 HMR shakes a day and water - that's it...i'm not doing well with this and I'm only on day 3 of 14 - I need help and words of encouragement - I'm a hot miserable mess

    November Sleevesters?

Excellent post! thanks so much for sharing your story - it makes me feel better knowing what to expect - my date is November 12th - I just have to "survive" this liquid pre op stuff. Best of luck to you!

    Hardest Part...

Having the surgery and eating afterwards will be the easy part - because this pre-op liquid crap is nuts to handle! I would kill to be able to eat a small sensible meal per day! I'm expected to have nothing but 5 shakes per day and water! No popsiciles, SF jello or fat free broth! nothing - really? I have been bitching about this since I started on Monday - I have to get my head around this whole process and soon - focus focus focus
  5. Thanks for the votes of confidence! On day three and I can only manage three shakes today. I also had a tablespoon of hummus and two ounces of chicken! I know they only want those damn shakes and water, but I am STRUGGLING with this aspect of it. I'll try harder tomorrow. Why is it some people can eat a small healthy meal per day and shakes the rest of the day, and others can't drink anything but the darn shakes. I can't believe I'm whining about this so much. I have been nothing but a miserable person to live with LOL. i will try to draw strength from all of you Thanks so much!

    November Sleevesters?

it's so weird. my dr is not putting me on a liquid diet. I've met my pre-op weight. I'm wondering if that's why ....I lost my pre-op weight too, but I still have to do the TWO WEEK liquid diet (shakes - five of them a day! I would rather starve than drink 5 of these a day and nothing else but water. Seriously? I just had two ounces of chicken, because I simply can't drink these shakes all the time. So be happy that you are not required to do this! BTW - my date is Nov. 12th in Mass.
  7. I started my liquid pre-op diet today - and it sucks! the shakes are making me gag. 13 more days will be hell. I'd rather not eat a thing. How do people do nothing but shakes and water for 14 days.

    Pre-Opt Diet Question

Just started liquid 2 week pre-op myself. Today! If today is any indication of what it's going to be like, I would rather starve! I have to drink 5 HMR shakes a day - and water - that's it. They are making me gag - they are too thick and foamy. I just had fat free can of chicken broth, because I can't drink the shakes anymore. I don't know how I'm going to get through thirteen more days - seriously! I have already lost about 10lbs on my own and I would much rather continue with what I have been doing and then do clear liquids for a couple of days before surgery (11/12) but nope, not in their plan. Oh well, just bitching about it I guess. I'll have to get over it and keep my eye on the "prize" Good luck everyone
  9. Is it HMR800 shakes? 5 per day? That is what I am going to be starting this Monday, the 29th - hope it won't be hell to do...I've lost 9lbs so far on my own - hoping for some more on the liquid 2 week phase - good luck
  10. I'm trying to wrap my head around ALL the info I got during my pre-op visit the other day. My question is, can I take reg. tylenol after surgery? Instead of liquid Lortab - how many days postop will it take for me to be able to swallow tablets, etc...
  11. You look so good - that is crazy how much you lost! Congrats...Diane
  12. Rachel: I am not looking forward to drinking five shakes a day and nothing else but water for 14 days! But....I heard the shakes taste good, and some people drink this stuff for a year! They all lose a ton of weight, but gain it right back. However, for all of us, we will have the necessary tools to not regain - good luck! Our November dates will be hear before we know it..keep in touch everyone - Diane

    Fmla (Medical Leave)

I have to use FMLA and plan to use sick days (I will be out for two weeks) - that is what the dr. suggested -
  14. Well what a crazy week I had - working ALOT and I had a five hour Pre-Op Day yesterday. It went something like this: Arrived at 1:00 - pre admission paperwork; then up to meet with a Nurse Practioner who gave me a packet explaining the pre-op liquid diet I have to be on (more on that later); back down to have 9 vials of blood drawn - did I mention I hadn't eaten yet! Felt a little faint - but I got my act together. Off to meet with an intake nurse and have an EKG done (my heart is beautiful apparently) LOL. Spoke with the anthesiologist (he was sorta weird - but I may not even have him on that day). Back upstairs to a very long meeting with my original nurse practioner who explained the day of surgery and what to expect. Finally, five hours later I had a class with a nutrionist to explain what to eat after surgery and beyond - another huge packet - I'm now confused. So much to remember! The good news is that I've lost 9lbs on my own so far. I start pre-op diet on the 29th of October (2 weeks before surgery). I had to purchase HMR800 shakes. I have to drink five shakes a day and NOTHING ELSE! No jello; popsicles or broth. Only a lot of Water - this may be tough for me... I have also been to two mandatory pre-op group classes. I have two to go. I have to admit they are useless for me. Some of the people in there, really do not have their heads wrapped around this process and should not be doing this. IMO. there are a lot of lap band folks there. They are worried about Thanksgiving! I could go on and on, but I won't. I just hope they are doing this for all the right reasons. Truth be told, I am anxious about the surgery - excited, but anxious. So how have you guys been doing? - Diane

    Surgery Tomorrow.....

Hi There! I'm not scheduled until Nov. 12th, but I tell you I have the same thoughts and feelings. I am female and worry too about the nakedness on the OR table, But truthfully, they have SEEN IT ALL BEFORE I'm sure! and besides there are many drapes over you - so don't worry - and you'll be asleep. Before you know it it will be over and you will start to heal - just focus on the main reason why you are doing this. Do exactly as they tell you and youwill be fine. Good luck!
  16. Hi: BTW my name is Diane - I live in New Hampshire and my starting weight was 237..I see yours is pretty close to mine...nice job losing 13 lbs so far! My scale seems to be stuck at 229 at the moment. I bought Biotin but didn't start taking it - guess I will start tomorrow. I thought about buying Isopur Protein drinks, not sure where to get em though. I tried mixing some Protein Powder drinks already. I got myself a single serve blender at Walmart. It works great. Heres what I did: One scoop of whey protein (vanilla) from walmart - sugar free. One tablespoon of sugar free vanilla international instant coffee - a handful of frozen mixed berries; some water; ice and a little bit of s.f. almond milk. It is really really good. I hope we don't get dehydrated, as others have. i hope it is a breeze. LOL I have a big pre-op series of appts. this Thursday - I'll let you know what they say and what I will learn. Do you have to do a full two pre-op liquid diet?
  17. I am November 12th. 5'4" current weight 229. Starting pre-op liquid two weeks out. I feel I am mentally ready. I have been looking at food so much differently now. I find it hard to watch other people shovel food into their mouths at work. I hope everything goes well for everyone - let's all post as soon as we can right after surgery...good luck!
  18. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! You are over the worst of it and on your way - so celebrate! I won't be sleeved until Nov. 12th...

    The Gas Pain Is Rough

I haven't been sleeved yet (11/12 is my date). so are you saying that you wish someone brought in gas x strips? Does the hospital not want to give you any? After today, it will probably start to get better each and every day. I'll send good wishes your way! Just think, the worst is over and it can only get better from here!

    Slow Weight Loss

I haven't been sleeved yet, but maybe you should think of it as for every ounce/pound lost is an ounce/pound you WILL NEVER GAIN BACK AGAIN Isn't that nice. Bet you couldn't say that before. By the end of the month, add up all those ounces/pounds you have lost so far and I'll bet you will be happy. I only hope I can follow my same words for myself, as I know I am a slow loser - I mean really slow. Good luck
  22. I have my surgery date, November 12th. I have met my surgeon - he is really nice and positive but also tells you like it is - exercise is a must in order to get where you want to be and to stay there! I hate exercising - did I mention that? So I got a new dog - now I have to walk him - LOL...I have my big pre op appt. on 10/18 - it is like 5 hours long. That is when they go over the pre op diet and post op (what to expect). I am also starting my required 1 of 4 pre op mandatory classes. To date I have lost about 6 lbs on my own, but need to lose more before surgery. I'm think between what I am doing and that hideous pre op liquid diet for 14 straight days, I may get down 15lbs before surgery. Now that would be nice. It truly is a about having the right frame of mind. I now am super aware of what other people around me are eating. Before I could ahve cared less, but now I'm amazed at what my co-workers put in their mouths. It kinda makes me feel sick watching it - to be honest. Also, I am reading all labels at the grocery store - this is sorta weird for me too! I have read that some people have had a real hard time right after surgery with even being able to drink sips of Water. God I hope that doesn't happen to me. I LOVE h20. So that's about it for now. Thanks for reading and responding if you want to.. Journey started Mid August Consultation 8/30 Surgeon meet and greet 9/14 Lost 6lbs since 8/30 PreOp Long appt. 10/18 Surgery Date 11/12

Second Day Of Pre-Op Diet And Yucky

Well you probably should focus on the fact that this diet will make your surgery safer. That is what I try to focus on. My date isn't until 11/12 and I have to lose about 10 lbs on my own before I start my....now get this...two week liquid pre-op diet! I am dreading it. Anyway I have lost about 7 lbs on my own since the end of august. I am super focused - well I'm trying to be...I started at 237.8lbs and today I am at 230.8. big whoop - cuz I have 75+ lbs to go...so think of me when I'm drinking MediFast for two solid weeks you can do it! hang in there

    Its Done! Yey!

congratulations! I'm jealous My surgery date isn't until November 12th. I'm sure what you're feeling is normal and that the worst will be behind you in just a few more days. I mean think about what they did, I'm sure your stomach is say "what the hell just happened". Well good luck to you. I do have a question for you though, I hear some people say they have a "drain" left in them, hanging out of them, etc... Is that true? If so, for how long and does it hurt. I meet with my surgeon on Thursd of this week and I'm sure he will answer my questions, but I am just curious. Diane
  25. Now you are the reason why we are doing this! Good for you keep it up:)
