    Slow Weight Loss

Well I thought it was just me! I was sleeved on 11/12 and to date have only lost 10lbs! I am very frustrated by this. I thought it was due to constipation (which was horrible) - but I fixed that problem to the best of my ability and then I thought I was dehydrated - which I kinda was - so I hit water like it was nobody's business and still NOTHING. REALLY?! I feel like **** and am eating hardly anything: Here is what a typical day looks like for me - water - little coffee - scrambled egg made with water - almost a whole stonyfield yogurt smoothy - dinner is either soup; or a little mashed potatoes. tonight I made two scallops and was able to barely eat them. Then more water. I know it is not enough protein but I would rather stick a needle in my eye than drink another protein shake! LOL. Why do some people lose 20lbs in one week? I'm hoping this all changes and soon. I can't exercise much other than walking my dog, because I feel so weak. Please keep me posted how you're doing as it makes me feel better to know I'm not alone...
  2. Thanks for you responses. When I attempt to eat "approved foods" they get stuck. My throat feels closed also. I also became dehydrated last week and felt like ****. Now I am focusing on water water water and not protein or food at this point in time. And I feel better. I know that protein is king, but right now it is taking a back seat for a few more days for me. I have only lost 10lbs in 3 weeks! wtf is up with that? It pisses me off. (sorry for the language, I don't mean to offend anyone - but I'm not happy about it). Exercising is not happening for me at this point in time, as taking a shower is an effort. All in all, I do feel much better than the first night I was sleeved and felt like I wanted to die LOL. So that is improvement - right?
  3. wow I'm glad I'm not the only one that is wiped out by showering and drying my hair. I went back to work at the end of week two and regretted it every since. So I am taking a few more days off this week to try to get my "act together". I am making a real effort to drink at least 48oz of water. The thing is whenever I try to eat anyting I feel queasy. Anyone else feel that way, does it every end. BTW I have absolutely NO DESIRE TO eat - it really is gone. HOpefully my scale will start to show results. Thisi s most definitely hard - now isn't it?
  4. I'm glad I found this small group of November VSG'rs (NVSG for short) My surgery date is set for 11/12. It's funny, but I'm not scared or anxious about it really at this point in time. I mean when I first started this whole process, physically starting and mentally starting - I had some bad dreams about it. Woke up throughout the night a little panic stricken. But now, I say BRING IT ON. Also, has anyone felt that for every pound they are losing now (pre op), they realize they will never gain it back again? Before when I dieted, I would say to myself, I wonder how long I'll 'BE ABLE" TO keep it off. Also, I'm apprehensive about after surgery - everyone seems to have such a hard time getting in a few ounces of Liquid Protein and staying hydrated. hair loss concerns? anyone?

    November Sleevesters?

You will be fine - just take it easy - I started feeling crummy before surgery too, probably from that stupid liquid pre-op diet LOL and malnutrician - just baby yourself, with plenty of fluids, tea and rest. Good luck
  6. When you folks say you are 3 weeks out do you mean you just finished two complete weeks since day of surgery and are now STARTING week 3? Or are you really three full weeks post op and starting week 4? It can be a bit confusing actually - well at least to me it is. I am anxious to start soft foods. I try a little and then it hurts and I'm uncomfortable for a while but it passes and then I'll try it again. Apparently I'm not supposed to start this phase for yet another week, but I need something other than broth and liquid protein. And when does the "stuck" feeling end before passing through to your stomach? thanks

    November Sleevesters?

What are you november sleevers able to eat at this point? Please post what your eating in a typical day and how far post op you are. I'm interested in hearing where everyone is at. Everything with any texture that I eat (yogurt, pudding, hummus) get's stuck and feels uncomfortable and my stomach is really "talking" to me. I think I heard it tell me off a couple of time..LOL
  8. Hello All: I thought I'd share some things at 11 days post-op: Since day of surgery - lost 9lbs Very hard for me to get enough protein in at this point still. I had a really hard time with liquid pre-op shakes and now shakes in general make me gag. I'm able to eat creamed soups and some yogurt and pudding at this point. Although I started this phase too early and it hurt to eat, but I started it anyway because I felt so weak at times I return to work tomorrow (this will be good and bad) First visit with NUT on Wed - can't wait to hear what she has to say Trying to understand the difference between head hunger and real hunger. Most of the time it is head hunger. It doesn't help that I had my surgery at this time of year! I am able to take two of the four vitamins I'm supposed to every day. Two is better than none. Steri strips are still covering my healing incisions (I'm supposed to let them fall off naturally) but I want to remove them and scratch that area so bad. I bought two new pairs of work pants yesterday. The size 18 pants I was wearing pre-op are really big (Yea). I actually shopped in the "normal" section of TJMaxx Still not feeling myself and I wonder if I ever will again. I wonder a lot of things actually - like how will all of this work out. I have three holiday parties coming up in two weeks and I'm a little bit stressed about them as most people do not know I had this done. Hoping I will get back to "loving" my am coffee again - this is a real bummer for me as my coffee making was an art form in and of itself and I miss not wanting it anymore. Blood pressure is already down! Thanks for reading
  9. I'm mostly worried about being around all that food and everyone asking me to try this or that.

    11 Days Post-Op. 25 Pounds Lost.

I hear ya with the protein shakes! I can't drink them anymore. I am able to get in 1/2 bottle of Isopure over the course of one hour though. I need more protein. I started having creamed soups and yogurt before I supposed to also - but my stomach revolted. So I waited a few days and tried it again - a little less pain this time. This a.m. I made plain cream of wheat really thinned out and was able to have about 6-8 teaspoons before feeling really full. I have only lost 9lbs since day of surgery (11 days ago). I thought it would be more - but I'll take that loss. I also am able to eat a whole square of laughing cow cheese. I think I'm going to try cottage cheese today and see what happens.

    12 Days Post Op

What are you able to eat at 12 days post op?

    November Sleevesters?

My surgeon told me that the staple line (new stomach) is about 80-90% healed over at this point (11days post op) I still have steri strips on my incisions and he said to let them fall off naturally. They are so itchy though - I can't stand it

    Thanksgiving

Since I was sleeved on 11/12 I am staying home this year - watching movies and eating soup and some squash - there's always next year! It's too much to handle being around all my mother's food and deserts - I sent my kids there instead without me this year. My mom can't seem to wrap her head around why I can't go. Too much pressure and I'm still tired to boot.

    Suggestions On Puree Foods

When did you start this phase - how many days post op were you?
  15. So funny you should mention this - I thought I was losing my mind. I'm freezing all the time. Which is so weird because I keep my house really cool - I watch over the thermostat (Living in NH you have to or else you will have to sell your sole or lung in order to buy heating fuel)! So yes, I am cold all the time. I wonder why?

    November Sleevesters?

Anyone care to chime in on their Dr. recommend diet? I thought I could start yogart an creamed soup phase this week. So I started on Monday - but appaently I misread the mountain of paperwork they gave me, because I was supposed to wait ANOTHER week to start this phase. (I had my followup appt. today and found that out). Here's the thing, as of today, I'm able to eat these two things just fine and I feel so much better have them - other than clear liquids and protein shakes (blah). So I'm gonna continue with them. I'm wonder where everyone else is that have been sleeved this month? Please chime in - each Dr. seems different in their approach to things now don't they.
  17. As you all know I was sleeved last Monday 11/12 and as of today I am feeling so much better. I am only down 5lbs since surgery date though. I did have a BM over the weekend and now my intestines are all messed up - not to be gross but I go a little bit all day long - loose. Anyone else like this? As far as eating goes, I can eat creamed soups, yogurt and pudding but I don't know if I'm eating too fast or too much cuz I am not comfortable eating it. i think I am finally gettingin 30oz of h20. I'm not making protein shakes because I am sick of them at the moment. I am able to take my chewable Bariatric Fusion vitamins - 4 per day and that is going well. I also see the surgeon tomorrow. Oh and my incisions are itchy as all hell - anyone else having this little problem. I want to scratch but I can't

    November Sleevesters?

For those of us who have been sleeved this month, how is your weightloss going? I am 8 days post op today and have lost 5 lbs. Truthfully, I thought it would be more, as I weighed myself 5 days post op and was the same loss of 5lbs! I'm not eating hardly anything at all - I am trying. Just wondering if anyone wants to chime in on this.
  19. I was sleeved exactly one week ago 11/12 and per my past posts last week, it was a difficult four days or so. Then it miraculously started getting better. I was on Clear Liquids for the first week - and now today I was to move onto "full liquids" smooth yogurts; puddings; cream Soups. So I get up this am with a swing in my step cuz I can have fat free cream of cheese soup! I take four spoonfuls and glee washes over my face. And that's where it stopped.........pain and discomfort when it hits the tummy. I now know where food enters the stomach - and I never even went to med school. So I wait and try again and bam it happens again. So, what's up with this? Any suggestions, hints etc...am I eating wrong? It has taken me 2 hours to eat this mug of Soup. There is NO WAY I can start timing my Water between my "meals" like they want me to. If I were to do this, I would never drink water today.
  20. I was sleeved on 11/12 - one week down and I can start full liquids today (cream soups; yogurt; pudding and continue with protein shakes). Well it was tough today I must say, everything I ate hurt, sometimes I had to hold onto the counter till it passed. I think its gonna take me a couple more days before I can try again. the problem is trying to get in enough protein right now - I can't even keep track of it, but I know it is really low. I see surgeon on Weds. as far as bm's go - it FINALLY happened on Sunday sorry TMI - I just two doses of Miralax and now i can't stop - my lower intestines are rumbling all the time. I was down five lbs today...
  21. I was definitely overambitious today. It is so hard to eat little bites that slowly but I will try try again. And I think I need to buy a baby spoon. So much learn! thanks

    3 Weeks Out....help

Do you have a fever? Call the Dr. - can't hurt to call and it will make you feel better knowing this is "normal"
  23. I agree, I can't tell if I'm hungry or my new tummy is pissed off. I think it actually gave me the finger the other day! I thought days 4 and 5 I was starving. But really I wasn't hungry - just trying to get used to the new feelings and signals. I can't wait to be able to go to soft liquid stage - yogurt, creamed Soups and pudding - that should be on Monday. but taking it slow is the key here I think. Also, no BM yet - REALLY! I was sleeved on Monday. Dr. told me to get Miralax - so I drank that and still nothing. I can take it again tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed. I never thought I would be so happy as the time I get to use the potty. TMI I definitely did too much today. I bent over to get something in a low cabinet and I really felt the "pull" in my abdomen - like I was very aware of the staples. good luck everyone

    Hugry

Nope your not nuts. I was sleeved on Monday and since Thursday I swear I was starving to death! LOL. Now today it is "different" we really aren't hungry, I think we have been so predisposed to eating at the first sign of emptiness in our tummies and to snack whenever we wanted, that we are confusing the two. I tortured myself Thurs and Friday by watching FoodNetwork all day long. I figured I would try to desensitize myself by overloading. I'm trying to wrap my head around it being "ok" for everyone else to be able to eat and for me to be able to cook for them - but I forgo it all. We did it at bad time of year, I think, but better now than later. Listen to your body not your head and then it will all make sense. Good luck!
