    Pureed Stage...frustrated

Also...are you using a straw when you drink? If you are then you should stop that. Straws cause you to draw too much air into your stomach...thus the burping or hiccupping.

    Surgery 2morr

These feelings are normal. I was scared too..I knew that once I got to the hospital I would be ok. I spent 3 months getting prepared for it...seeing the cardiologists, the nutritionist, and the shrink....I kept telling myself...I was going to feel better getting this surgery. That was my mantra the night before...I still got scared...but 7 months out...I feel great. No regrets at all. I have sooo much more energy now that I am 52 #s down. Shake your fears off and go for it.
  4. Yes the pain goes away....do you have a heating pad? I used mine religiously whenever I rested watching television or whatever. I will say that I deal with head hunger from time to time...I just keep reminding myself how things were before I got the sleeve...that thought seems to help me get back on track. You should take pictures weekly to keep track of your progress and when you have this head hunger...pull out them and even old photos so you can see where you've been and how far you have come....it really helps!!! Good Luck...this has been a blessing for me. I have NO regrets at all!

    Frustrated! Need help

Spatter3 is right. Take a closer look at what you are putting in your body....I have had the same situation and discovered I was taking in too many carbs. I cut them back and now am losing again.
  6. Get some crushed ice...it helps with getting in your water and also with healing...I buy bags of crushed ice from my local Sonic Drive-In. Worked for me....I am 7 months post op. Hang in there guys...this too shall pass.

    Hair loss

Ok, guys I am worried about the hair loss I am experienceing. I was sleeved September 10, 2012, a little over 4 months out. I am on levothyroxine due to a thryroidectomy 2 years ago and have been on levothyroxine for about 8 years prior to that surgery. I also understand that hair loss is a side effect of levothyroxine. I never noticed much hair loss until recently and I would like to know if there is any sleever out there who has thyroid issues and has been thru this experience? My blood work done 3 months out showed I was low on iron and vitamin b12 so I am making sure to take all vitamins recommended by my surgeon. I take Biotin as well. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.!

    Cramping...

Yes I experienced pain in my left side near the incision site as well.. You may experience this pain from time to time as ;you heal....I had days when there was no pain there but then some days it would remind me it was still healing. Just take it easy doing stretches of any kind until your doctor oks it. It took about 6 weeks or so before I stopped having that pain in my left side.
  12. It is all about the insurance companies and what they require for you to do to have this surgery. I called my insurance company up and checked it out before I even talked to my surgeon. I had a physical with my primary care physician and spoke with her about this surgery and if I was even a candidate. Since I had high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and my bmi was high. My doctor had to write a letter for my insurance company explaining that I would benefit from the surgery. Then I had to see a nutritionist totaling 6 visits,,,and see a cardiologist, and speak with a psychiatrist for about 2 hours. They make you go thru many hoops...but in the end you do benefit from it. Be your own advocate and get the things done you need to do to have the surgery as soon as you want it. Take charge and good luck. It is sooo worth the trouble!

    Hair loss

Thanks to you all for your comments! I am making sure I am taking my required vitamins. I am also looking into the silica idea as well. I recently bought a hair product called Q-10 at Target that has Keratin in it. It is a leave in conditioner. I noticed a difference right away in texture and shine.

    Hair loss

Yes I was aware of the hair loss. I want to hear what other thyroid patients had experienced and if they had advice I could benefit from.
  15. The GNC Lean shakes were all I could tolerate right after my surgery as well. I still get them from time to time as a change. I am really hooked on Bariatric Advantages chocolate powder...27 grams of protein per shake. Bariatric Advantage powder is a little expensive to me but its the only protein drink/shake that I truly like. This was the protein product that my surgeon recommended.
  16. Hi and good luck on your journey. I found having a cup of crushed ice around helped me get my water requirement in. Even now 4 months out and 51 #s down...I still use crushed ice. I like the ice to be really thin so I buy it from the local Sonic Drive in. Just a thought..you might remember this after your surgery.
  17. When I get bored and think I need a snack..I mix up a protein shake...that seems to help.
  18. I am about 5 months out and No I don't get hungry but I do have a sense of an empty feeling stomach....and when that happens its usually about the time I need to eat. In the beginning I dealt with "head" hunger but as time has past I am dealing with that better. Its not an issue really. Its part of the journey.
  19. I think you must remember why you had the surgery...was it to feel better...get healthier. Don't give up on yourself...you went thru a major surgery...don't blow it! Stay on track...get your head back on straight! Use this surgery as a tool to get back on track. Hang in there! It is a journey!

    Bowel changes

Yeah, your protein shake could be causing you to be this way and you might even be lactose intolerant too. You might try a protein supp that is milk free.

    Having doubts!

I am about 5 months out from my surgery...I too experienced the fear the night before my surgery...I almost didn't do it...but I am so glad I did! I felt better immediately....my feet did not hurt anymore and my knee pain went away! I have so much energy its crazy. Conquer your fear and follow thru with your decision especially if you want to feel better...because this surgery will make a big difference!!
  22. I am about 5 months out. I have lost 45 pounds total. I feel great and I have not regretted having the surgery one bit. I cook for my husband all the time with no issues. I watch my protein intake and still occasionally have one shake a day. I continue to follow my doctors orders regarding food intake and exercise. I do not want to go back to old habits. One reason for my having the surgery was to get control of my eating habits which it definitely has. I want to lose about 25 more pounds..I can see that happening within the next few months.

On My 5Th Day Of Lq Pre-Op Diet

Hang in there! It is sooo worth it! I too faced the challenge of having to smell my hubbys meals but I got thru it and never cheated once! I lost 18 pounds on my pre-op diet! You are doing wonderful! Just keep telling yourself you are worth the sacrifice!! I am 9 weeks out from surgery and have lost about 38 pounds total. I feel great and have so much energy! No regrets here at all. Good Luck to you! Keep up the good fight!
  24. I did the first time I tried it. It was too sweet for me. I have since tried Tridents Cinnamon flavored gum and I am tolerating that better. You might try sugar free peppermints....I used them alot the first week post op.

Not Losing Weight On Pre-Op Diet?

Also note that surgeons have different requirements and those that had significant weight loss could have been on a more restricted pre-op diet. For instance, my surgeon required my pre-op diet to be liquids only to accomplish a liver cleanse. That could be the reason others have a higher weight loss during pre-op dieting.
