  1. I posted about this last week and just talked to my surgeon (who does both) yesterday. His recommendation to me was....If I had diabetes or a family history of diabetes, or a higher BMI, go with the sleeve. If I didn't have any diabetes or as much weight to lose, or thought I could be more strict with myself and put more effort in on my own (meaning relying less on my tool and more on myself) then go with the plication. He said in his experience the weight loss has been comparable, but again..it really is up to the individual and how much work you put in after surgery. I know no one wants to hear that, including myself.
  2. That's what I got too, proudgrammy
  3. I've been going back and forth with my patient coordinator for the last half an hour trying to get connected with Dr. Ortiz for questions. Sounds like he is buzzing around like a mad man! LOL...everytime the phone rings my heart starts pounding!! I don't usually feel like this unless I'm about to stand up and speak in public! Hope I don't lose my voice like I usually do when that happens....all he will hear is squeaks!!
  4. Just saw the commercial last nite..looked interesting
  5. Thanks for replying Bos123...I'm glad to hear you are doing well. It's just dang hard to do the research to make an informed choice when there isnt much to be found, or at least I haven't found it yet! LOL
  6. I know! It's like a ghost town over there!
  7. I agree...it sounds so great in theory..but in practice, maybe a little too new.
  8. Thanks for the info..bookmarking the site. Used to love to run as a middle schooler...one day, I hope to re-visit those feelings of power and even joy!
  9. Maybe we can turn those blankets into some new fashion craze? I for one, refuse to own a "snuggie" ! LOL
  10. Hi KK...I've read some studies about ghrelin playing a part in body temp regulation. Granted these have all been done with mice/rats...but there is a link. Other folks have attributed being newly cold to their weightloss and losing "insulation". Not sure I agree with that one, as I have plenty of fluff and freeze all the time in the winter! My "insulation" only seems to work in the summer, and I sweat like a burly man (hope I havent offended any burly men reading)! LOL
  11. Good luck on your surgery..hope your pre-op diet has been going smoothly. I'm starting mine early on Monday. Please post and let us know how things went!
  12. On a side note...I'm amused that the verb "s n a t ch" in my original post seems to be censored.
  13. Thanks for your response, and humor! I tend to overthink a lot of things, and more often than not it leads to inaction on my part. I bog myself down...don't want to do it in this case with my surgery! I just need to STOP! LOL
  14. Yes, Brit...I've been doing a lot of "hmmmmm" lately! LOL...I'm back on board with the sleeve. I emailed my patient coordinatior and the fact that even she suggested I stick with it over plication says a lot to me. Thanks for commenting, everyone!
  15. Okay...I'm being a wussy. I'm scheduled to be sleeved in a little over five weeks and wondering if I'm choosing the right surgery. I've been comfortable with the thought of being sleeved for months, but now I'm coming up with all these doubts about the long term effects of ghrelin deficiency. I've read about sleevers being cold, having trouble with memory/concentration, changes in sleep patterns and a few days ago read a study that linked ghrelin to our ability to handle stress better. I want to be healthier and feel better, not FREEZING, MORE ADDLE-BRAINED, SLEEP DEPRIVED, and ANXIOUS and setting myself up for even more negative effects that aren't even known yet!! So...plication. Basically a sleeve without removing any stomach, thus preserving ghrelin, awesome, right? Well I'm not so sure...I can barely find anything about it, but what I have isn't very promising. Unsatisfactory weight loss, horrible hunger and cravings, and the unfortunate complication of your stomach rotting away inside you due to blood flow restriction. Yikes! Back and forth I go, over and over....someone ****** me up and shake some sense in to me, PLEASE!!
  16. I've tried diff brands of stevia...I like "Truvia" brand the best, but I don't think it's just stevia, I think it has xylitol in it too. I also use splenda quite a bit, even the one with added fiber, and like both. Not sure of carb count...honestly I've never checked!
  17. Hi Jesser..I'm Feb. 18th...already have my passport card, supplements, and some liquids and proteins stocked up. Waiting on my flight tickets as I have to wait for my tax refund to pay part of my fee as well. Don't want to get tickets now then worry about getting dates changed. I hope this doesn't bite me in the a#$ and my tickets end up being outrageous. First time dealing with it so I just don't know
  18. See Amanda! Now there be three! LOL Hello Beth...I'm down in SE Ohio...close to Athens.
  19. What a transformation...love your pose! Congrats!
  20. What an awesome job you have done! You look wonderful and so happy
  21. Hi Michigan..Ohio here! I hate winter too!! Of course the summers are icky as well, good for corn and soybeans, bad for this chunky chick...soon as you step out the door it's like a sauna, blech!
  22. Suction and creaking sounds??? Ahhhh! Oh well, maybe I could think of it as "dinner music". LOL
  23. I have been dealing with this a bit too..and I've not had surgery yet. My husband (been together 29 years) started with the "when you get skinny you'll leave me" crap right from the get-go. I've yo-yo'd in weight for most of the 29 years we've been together, he only recently has gained extra weight (within the last 5-7 years). Sometimes I get frustrated with constantly having to reassure him that I'm not going anywhere. I'm hopeful that any success I have will inspire him to join me in getting healthier. When I look ahead to life after surgery, I see him right by my side, not some other man. I see us being more active together, maybe some fun competition once in a while, instead of him setting on the couch while I'm suggesting how nice a walk would be and wouldn't he like to accompany me? He has stuck it out for all my crazy diet changes (low carb, low calorie, south beach, vegetarian, vegan) in the past, I know he can weather this upcoming change. It is MY choice to do this though, he is completely against it, worries about my safety and outcome (sometimes expressed harshly) but even so I am always offering little bits of information at a time, because I want to include him...I still WANT his support, his encouragement, even though I'm prepared to do this without it. I want my successes to be his successes too! All in time I guess, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink!
