  1. I'm still pre op and in the planning stagees' date=' so I'm unsure how much and what one eats after surgery. I'd love to see images of what you guys are eating, please with a cherry on top?

I plan on taking a lot ofpics of my meals afterwards for others as well..

    thanks,

    Amy[/quote']

Hi Amy , so I'm 4 and a bit weeks out and here is what I had for dinner tonight . However I think I ate too fast cause I threw it back up :(

  2. For the past few days I've been drinking fluids in the evening and I feel burning almost all the way to my throat. I take a daily zantac but it seems that after it wears off I feel this burning when drinking water! Anyone experience this before??

    hugs' date='<br />alma[/quote']

I'm going through this right now . The Water feels almost dry and not refreshing . I find I'm craving milk , I never drank straight milk before . I drunk the skinny kind and it settles that burning straight away .

  3. I confess that I think about food too much and spend hours in bed at night when I'm supposed to be asleep, looking at recipes online .

I confess that I hate being near my husband and son now when they eat , because they shovel so much food in their mouths and eat like pigs .

I confess that I feel more sexier now and more adventurous but yet it cuts deep when my husband says things to me like " you feel like a shell of a person " . When asked what he meant he said my body was firm before but now I feel squishy .

  4. Managed to get a prescription today and already I feel so much better. The heartburn was really starting to get me down. Thanks so much for your advice.

That's where I'm at now ( also an Aussie ) I have a tablet to take in the morning but the evening is starting to get too me takes forever for it too feel better .

  5. Hello everyone i have posted on here before. I had the sleeve march 22 2012' date=' so its been roughly 8 months. My starting weight was 350 im right around 230 ish now. I went from a 46 inch waist to 34 inch. I eat what i want now and do not crave many bad foods as i did before. And if i do it is much easier to say no. Anyway it has been awsum, and am super happy with it.[/quote']

Well I think you look awesome ! I imagine you would be beating off dates with a stick now .

  6. Just wondering what to expect far as weight loss. This question is for all of you Post Op followers. How much weight did you drop in the first few months?

I'm three weeks out , starting weight was 363 now I'm at 304 . It feels like its coming off slowly but that's the psychological part of it . I have a fear of not loosing anymore or my scales being wrong . Lol

  7. Just bought my first pair of boots in 20 years....never needed them when I was in Hawaii....and besides; I couldn't ever get any zipped up over my calves anyway!!! I tried lots of knee high ones on and they fit fine...even OVER my pants! Most fun I've ever had shoe shopping. Opted for these ankle high boots for now; but I may go get another pair now that I'm in Amsterdam.....SO MUCH FUN SHOPPING NOW.....I remember when shoe shopping was awful because I couldn't bend over to get the damn shoes on!!!

That's awesome ! I love boots I can't wait to get some next winter . Ps your legs look fantastic :)

  8. Hi Guys' date='

I'm a newbie on here. Had a sleeve done 4 weeks ago and was due my period a week after surgery. I know sudden weightloss can effect your hormones and cycle changes but as anyone else had the same problem and, if so, when do they come back?? Not on pill and periods are always regular. Any advice gratefully received.

    Regards,

    A UK sleever x[/quote']

    Well I'm

Due tomorrow and I am pretty regular so I will let you know , I think the shock / starvation thing out body is going through prevents ovulation . Not that I mind :)

  9. So' date=' I'm 1 week post op and I'm mourning food and the prospect of ever being able to eat more then dainty portions again... I'm surrounded by people who are of normal builds who can eat a whole plate of food or a cheeseburger and fries and still maintain their normal size. It frightens me to think that I will never be able to finish a cheeseburger or indulge and eat a whole plate of Thanksgiving food. I understand that my size and lifestyle prior to the sleeve wasn't normal either, but I have serious anxiety about never being able to guzzle a bottle of Water or finish a sandwich again. Is this just the price I have to pay?

Will I ever be able to do these things again? Ultimately I would like to be at goal weight and maintain with about 2000 to 2500 calories a day like a normal human being and be able to actually gulp down some Water after a good work out. Will this never happen? Please refrain from flaming me, only supportive, informative and non-judgmental responses please.[/quote']

What your going through is completely normal . Just because our stomach is altered doesn't mean our mind is. Our brains take a long time to catch up . I'm now 14 days out and able to eat purée which isn't so bad . You will get to the stage where you don't actually want the cheese burger and fries . It's so much work actually getting your Protein in that your full and don't have room for anything else . You have to retrain your brain and think yeah I could have ( whatever junk food ) but I choose not too . Does that make sense ? Right now it's all about control your feeling you don't have control over your food choices , but you do .

  10. That stuck feeling is the worst. I have a bowl with markings on the side of it so I know how much I'm taking in . For Breakfast I have 1/2 cup of soggy Cereal usually can't finish it all , never drunk the left over milk. Cup of coffee at mid morning or a baby yoghurt 40g

lunch 125 ml which is 1/2 cup of left over mashed potato from previous nights dinner and then another drink in the mid afternoon

Dinner 1/2 cup of home made rice , a drink before be dans I'm done ! Too me this feels like a lot :( I'm worried I will put weight on but I know in reality it's under 600 calories .

  11. Week 2 - Week 4 or 5 were not easy at all. I had bouts of depression' date=' mourning food, guilt, self blame, fear, panic .... on and on. It was much more emotional than I would ever have imagined. I had some butt kicking talks with myself and some pep talks, too. Taking a walk at the park always helped. I did do some tiny cheats along the way. A few Goldfish crackers, a taste of some pie, but nothing crazy. Keeping up with my food in myfitnesspal.com helped me a lot.

It DOES get a lot better. A whole lot. And make sure you are taking your PPI and drinking enough liquid. I can't stand drinking Water so I drink a lot of hot tea and sugar free drink mixes.[/quote']

Thanks I will be ok I need to kick my own a&$ and think about the bigger picture .

  12. Also' date=' some of the things you enjoyed before may not be so great from now on.

I have read about a LOT of people not being able to tolerate bread anymore.[/quote']

I actually never really liked bread before , I never used to eat it much .

I am just so disappointed in myself all those negative thoughts are creeping in about not being able to stick to anything and this is another " weight loss " thing I will fail at :( .

It's so hard cooking for a family of six night after night when you can't eat any of it or even taste it while your cooking it to make sure you got the flavor right . Feel like a big fat failure and I'm having a sook .

  13. Sounds like you are experiencing a case of the slimes. Only time will help. Are you taking an anti-acid such as Prilosec or Prevacid? They might help but other than that take it slow when adding solid foods! pizza was probably not the best choice you could have made!

I know ,I'm a complete idiot . It's cause i feel so well I forgot what I've just had done to my body:( I've learnt from it . But what are the slimes ? And no I wasn't prescribed anything.

  14. That's a real difficult choice for a 1st solid food. Most seem to have trouble with any bread products early on including pizza dough. I'm about 3 weeks out and have been sticking to regular Protein like fish' date=' chicken and even light sodium ham. All those have been okay. I'm going to wait for a long time before I try pizza given the bread issues I keep reading about on this board.[/quote']

Yeah I know your right , it's my stuff up

  15. So tonight I had my first couple of bites of solid food , pizza .i thought instead of pureeing it I would just chew it really well and then swallow ( I'm 14 days out of surgery ) I had four bites then I was full . But it feels like its sliding up and down and I don't know wether or not to make myself sick or ride it out . It honestly feels like concrete in my chest . Has this happened to u ? What fixed it?

  16. Ketosis for weight loss - as explained above, if the body can switch from being a carb-burning machine to a fat-burning one, the person loses weight. We store our fat, sometimes in undesirable places, such as our hips, buttocks, tops of thighs and our tummy. Carbohydrates cannot be stored like fat can. If our body is in carb-burning mode, we eat when carb (carbohydrate) levels go down, in order to get our energy. To achieve ketosis, the body must be on a high fat/protein and low carbohydrate diet. According to some organizations and experts, such as Dr. Atkins, with proper monitoring (urine dip stick, for example), levels of ketosis can be kept within safe limits and the dieter can reach his/her ideal bodyweight without suffering unbearable hunger.

There are certain risks on sustaining a prolonged high Protein, low carbohydrate diet. If keytone levels are not monitored properly, there may be a strain on the kidneys, there is a higher risk of developing kidney stones because more Calcium is excreted through urine, and there is a higher risk of osteoporosis. Some experts say there is also a higher risk of having unhealthily high cholesterol levels. However, several studies, such as this one have revealed that not only does a low-fat/high Protein diet reduce cholesterol levels, but it also brings down blood pressure in individuals with hypertension.

Experts cannot agree on whether ketosis caused by a low carb/high protein diet is good or bad for humans. Some say it is dangerous. While others point to human evolution: during most of the time that humans have existed; we have been a hunter-gatherer species and have lived primarily in a ketogenic state for extended periods. There are many documented cases of human societies today that exist in a long-term ketogenic state. After a 2 to 4 week period of adaptation, human physical endurance is not affected by ketosis, according to studies - meaning that we do not necessarily need a high carbohydrate intake in order to replace depleted glycogen stores for exercise. This makes the argument more compelling that, in fact, we are designed to thrive at certain levels of ketosis.
