  1. When is your op? How are you responding to the injections?

hi, my op is on the 9th Oct, I start my pre op diet on the 25th Sept.

The injections have been great for me, my BS was up to 19, Victoza brought it right down to between 7 n 10, also, it causes food to stay longer in the stomach to help with loosing weight, but that wore off after 6months. I'm ringing the bariatric nurse on Monday to check that I will be doing the right diet, she asked if I injected for the diabetes, and I said, yes, but now think she meant insulin, and victoza is not insulin so will check, to be sure. :-) x

  3. Hello Darling' date=' we're all different.

I took it slowly, one pill at the time.

Crashed the ones I was allowed to.

While in the hospital you can take your meds, if you're nervous, in liquid form. It'll give you a small respite after surgery.

I had mine at King's College at Denmark Hill. I was visited, on my last day, by a hospital pharmacist. She came for an information about my drugs requirements. 3 hours later I was supplied with enough meds to last me for next 4 weeks.

Can you find out about system in your hospital? Some offer meds, some only prescriptions for meds. In both cases you'll be winning.[/quote']

Thanks, think I will try and talk to someone as I have a few things I need to know for my peace of mind. The funny thing is that I am not a bit concerned about the op, it is post op that is concerning me. It is really good to have sleevers support. I am on the latest injection victoza to control my BS and they haven't even heard of it when I have mentioned it to the medical peeps I have spoken too. :-) x

  4. I am 51/2 months out and I have lost 53lb, I am an older sleever (53) and I am happy (most of the time) with that progress but at times I want it to be more. In my heart of hearts I would like to lose 100lb so I am 53% there which is not too bad. When I started this journey I thought the weight loss would take 9-12 months but it looks like it could be 12-14 months, again not too bad considering I have been overweight most of my adult life.

Well done, it must be great to be so much smaller already, im a year older than u and hope that i can do as well as you. I have bought slim fast, but just realised it contains cows milk and im allergic to cows milk, duh, i went to the site you reccomemded , for Protein in the uk and saw that they do soya protein which is a great help for me, i didn't have a clue where i could get some, so, thank you, x

  5. Hello' date=' I must say: I never had taken any medication in liquid form. That's applied straight after my op.

Never had any difficulties with that part of my life. At 56, with diabetes on board for more than 20 years, I have a nice collection of pills to take every morning. Don't worry too much. See how your new stomach will react.[/quote']

Thank you, were u able to swallow all your pills straight after the op? I take such a lot, but am hoping that I can manage without some and only have to take the ones that are really needed, it would help if I could have a chat with my nurse, but I never seem to get real people, only ansaphone messages, :-) x

  6. x

hi, i have fibro, diabetes type 2, osteo arthritus, ibs, asthma, high blood pressure, neourothopy in my feet, gout, acid reflux, sleep apnea, and will be waiting to hear about anyone with chronic pain like us, who have had the sleeve. i know that the fibro wont be cured but reckon less weight to carry around will be easier for me and the people who help me, i have been concerned how we will get our meds down, and if the op will be more painful because we are more sensitive to pain.

  7. it is great the way the ? that run through your mind are answered here, i am 54 and still have periods , really hope they stop soon, lol, but am worried that i might get one, but it is because not only are they heavy put i have always had terrible pain and have to take meffenemic acid pills also known as ponstan , it is a high dose inflammatory and is the only thing that stops the very bad pain. I have thought about taking them before for a few days in case, but am worried if it will effect the op. thanks everyone, x

  8. I finally got my exact operation date yesterday, the 9th oct, in the afternoon, and am so excited, it has taken me 19 months to get to this point and it still feels unreal.

I have started to think about what to take into hosital with me, and have found some new slippers, got some new pink towels, and toothpaste, lol, i am concentrating on this because i havn't yet received my liver shrinking diet, i am allergic to cows milk, so have to follow the alternaive diet, i start it on the 25th sept, and am impatient to find out what it consists of. The dietician was suppose to send it out to me last week, but as usual, what he is supposed to do for me isn't happening, but at least the specialist nurse said she would get straight onto him and i should have it soon.

I have been doing the dukan Protein only since saturday, but went off it yesterday after the phone call with the op date, i had jacket tattie with cheese and curry for lunch, and raspberries and light elmlea, and for supper shared a lamb rogan with rice and popadoms with hubby, really enjoyed them, but back on protein only till tomorrow, can't wait to add veg to the diet.

Hope everyone is doing ok, take care, Janet. x

  9. I know this is a really strange thing to ask....but I am embarrassed to ask anyone else. I have been researching and have decided on VSG (my first appt with the surgeon is 9/20)....and I feel like since I have made this decision I am so happy and excited for a real chance to succeed this time with weight loss....BUT I also feel like since I made the decision I can't stop eating. I feel like I eat all the time and just stuff myself. Is this just my head "hoarding" food?? I feel like an idiot.

    I would appreciate any feedback.

Hi, I'm not clear on reply yet, so please bear with me, it must be good to be able to eat what you won't be able to eat after the opn, I am having to keep my weight of because if I put a 1lb on even, the op will be cancelled. I live in the UK and am having my opn on the nhs.

I have been waiting for my op for 18 month since the first appointment and had to loose 11 lb before I could attend the seminar, I have lost nearly 2 stone and am struggling to keep to this loss and to loose some more before my pre opn diet. This annoys me because the reason I am getting a sleeve is because I find it so hard to keep the weight I loose off because I get really hungry. I am expected to do this to show I am serious, I think I have done that lol, hope you manage to do the pre op diet OK, and everything goes well with your sleeving, Janet, x

  10. Hello' date='

9 weeks since surgery. 2 stones down, tops sizes from 28-30 down to 22-24, bottoms down to 20 in Next from Evans 22-24. Feeling great! Eating all types of food. My daily calories intake is 1000-1500 a day. 1500 only on weekends when I allow myself to have a little treat, 0.5 of chicken Kiev for example and few spoons of Pasta. Sometimes I'll have a small desert: tiny slice of cake, mi-am, mi-am...Energy levels going up - had a spell of 4 weeks feeling totally washed out, asked forum for an advice: more carbohydrates ( from USA sites ). It worked!

Piercing pain in my shoulders due to swallowing air when eating is almost gone. Comes back only when very tired. Started 2 weeks ago my Advanced Pilates classes, still the heaviest girl in the group, but who cares! Renewed my membership in a local gym and next week I'll put on my new set of sweats from Next and

will start pumping Iron. Don't want to loose muscles but fat only. Friends keep telling me how much I'm changing for better. Strange thing is my brain knows that my body is reshaping but emotionally I've problem in accepting this. My son lost in the last 2.5 years over 14 stone in weight, when I talked to him about it he said that when shopping today his first choice is always XXL not M. Looks to me like our emotions are the last to adapt. Weird!

Went eating out and have lots of fun! My husband tells me that I'm a very cheap date! Hm......I choose to see this as a compliment. After all I can just about to manage a starter and few bites from plates of others, for taste you understand. Life is good and is getting better!

    I LOVE MY SLEEVE.[/quote']

Well done Kermit, I am trying to find out as much as I can and am loving been able to talk to UK sleevers.

X
