November Sleevers?
Other than being a Nervous Nelly. I'm just researching vitamins, etc. Trying not to go over board right now with it. I good friend of mine had the surgery about 2-3 years ago in Mexico, so she gave me a list of vitamins and protein that she really liked. Beneprotein (tasteless protein powder), 1 st energy (i think) multi Vitamin. I'm going to get my Protein Shakes from familybariatric.com I have tried them and they are very tasty. My surgeon doesn't require a pre op diet, but I am going to do one anyway. I'm going to start a modified one the 15th. That will help me not eat myself into a coma while i wait for the big day.

Glad you are feeling better. Is there a way to prevent dehydration. yes I know the obvious...drink your fluids, however I understand after surgery you have issues getting things down, aren't hungry/thirsty, etc. Is a matter of forcing yourself to drink or is the pain from drinking so uneasy that you just opt to not drink at all?

Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!
With almost 30 days to go before surgery...what are you guys/gals doing in preparation for surgery. Me: Trying not to let my nerves get the best of me, which then drives me to eat bad, praying, reading all the encouraging words and brave stories of other sleevers, clearing out my closet of "no more fat girl clothes", drafting a list of things I can't wait to do post op. Oh and...researching best vitamins, etc to purchase prior to surgery.

Goodbye Food Funeral...sick Of Food?!
Ok. Now that I am approved. I am in the final stages leading up to my November 9th surgery date. I have my PAT to do within 30 days of my surgery and that's it. My surgeon does not require a pre-op liquid diet. I called myself having somewhat of a food funeral over the last couple of week. I've gone from meticulously watching my food intake and working out 4-5 days a week, to working out 1-2 days a week and eating like im in a food contest. I think the "waiting game" until my surgery date is getting to me and I've now kind of gotten disgusted with food. I'm just eating to be eating and its not a good feeling. Although I'm not required to go on liquids before surgery, I think for my emotional and mental sake, I should give solid food a rest and start a modified liquid diet. Has anyone else experienced this? I know its part my nerves, but I also don't want to take the next 30 days to pig out as if I'm in my last days. I honestly think its a celebration of the new me come November 9th.

- African American Sleevers
Congratulations to you on your surgery Goldenlexe! Wishing you all the best in a successful recovery. I was born and raised in Milwaukee as well! I'm in NJ now. Been on the east coast since 98'. Going for surgery November 9th.- Approved! :-)
Congratulations!!!! The journey continues....- Need A Buddy From Nj
We are all here to support you. Lord knows I need as many buddies as possible. My nerves are shot. I'm in Hackensack. My surgery date is not until November 9th. If I could just do it right now I would, just to get it over with and be in recovery stage Who is your surgeon?- Holy Cow...i'm Approved!
I know nothing about that. I verified that I am covered 100%, with the exception of any diagnostic testing or lab work. My blood work and other testing is not covered since I have exceeded my limits.- November Sleevers?
The moment you find out you are approved.... I just found out I got approved by my insurance. Curiosity kiilled the cat. I had to call my insurance about a different issue. I figured while I had them on the phone, I would just inquire about my approval process. Had they recvd the documents? Where is it in the approval process? Well the rep came back on, verified that they had docs and then verified that a letter was mailed out to my surgeon and to myself providing authorization/approval for WLS. I think I almost passed out. Initial reaction: Tears of joy 2nd reaction: WTF is getting ready to happen?!?!? My surgery date is scheduled for November 9th! If I didn't have a few work related projects going on in October, I swear I would move that date up to, but November 9th is the divine date that I am going to stick with. Any other November 9th surgery dates out there?- Holy Cow...i'm Approved!
I wasn't quite sure where to post this, but I wanted to let you all know that I called my insurance provider today...just out of curiosity (lol) and I was told I was approved and that a letter had been mailed out to my home. I could literally pass out right now. It's like the reality of me getting the surgery has now actually hit me. My docs were submitted September 17th or 18th and Horizon BCBS made a decision on September 20th, mailed out my authorization letter on the 21st. That was quicker than I had anticipated. My surgery date is scheduled for November 9th. I am nervous as H*ll!!!!!!- Documents Submitted To Insurance Company...biting Nails While I Wait!
Today I submitted all of my documents were submitted to my insurance. The funny moment of it all was the pre cert coordinator must have showed my letter documenting my weight loss attempts in the past 12 months...all i heard was "OMG! Why do these people write books!" I looked at her dead in her face as she said it and then she walked away as if she had been caught robbing a bank. It was kind of hilarious, but unbeknownst to the mortified nurse I would have been negligent had I not given them a sneak peak in the 20+ years of weight loss attempts. 12 months to me just barely hit the surface. Needless to say my paperwork has been submitted to Horizon BCBS. Right now I have a tentative surgery date of November 9th. Send prayers and positivity out on my behalf for an approval.- Has Anyone Prepped For Sleeve By Exercising Months Pre-Op?
Nope you are not alone. I am currently working out well before I considered wls. Post my decision to do wls I am actually using that as motivation to work out even harder. I take dance classes, spin classes, jump rope, etc. (and with all of that you would think I should be skinny!). IMO I think it helps with getting in a routine now, starting healthier habits now, finding what types of exercise you like now to help us become more successful post op. I'm already cringing at not being able to do a normal work out for at least 6 weeks post op.- Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!
Hello November Sleevers! I'm fairly new to the board yet I have found myself plugged into the vst forums daily. You guys and gals are amazing! The information and support on the board is incredible. I'm located in Northern NJ. Tentative surgery date with Dr. Ewing is November 9th. I've completed all my requirements and I will be submitting all my paperwork to horizon Bcbs for approval. Some have said my decision to do wls is drastic yet being 316lbs is not cool no matter how well you dress it up! I've made being "big" to cute and comfortable for myself and others that no one not even myself could ever think being smaller and healthier is possible. I've done just about every diet and appetite suppressant. Lost a few pounds and gained it back. Over the years I have changed my eating habits drastically and I enjoy working out on a regular basis however I can't seem to lose 3lbs w/o gaining 5. I've lost 75 lbs back in 2010-2011 and quickly gained at least 50 of it back. I'm extremely nervous about this surgery yet I'm ready for consistent long term success. I'm ready to experience more living! I experience my share of doubts but I firmly believe I'm making the best choice for myself.- Looking For A Buddy In Nj
I attended the seminar on 8/15 , consult with Dr. Ewing on 8/27 , pre op seminar on 8/29(?) Psych on 9/1, and NUT on 9/4 . What insurance do you have? How are things going for you leading up to surgery?- Looking For A Buddy In Nj
Congratulations Jessie on your surgery! How are you feeling? What insurance did you have? I have Horizon BCBS and I'm currently waiting for my write ups from the pysch assessment and trying to figure out what to put in this letter to the insurance company explaining my attempts to lose weight in the last 12 months. Once that is done off to the insurance company for approval. This waiting game is driving me nuts..I just want to get it over and done with- What Do I Write To Insurance Co Re: Attempts To Lose Weight
Hi Sleevers: I have Horizon BCBS. I have to submit a letter to the insurance company regarding my attempts to lose weight over the past 12 months. I'm curious how detailed this letter should be. I don't want to say too much or not enough that might get me denied. As anyone had to do this? If so, can you provide some insight on what I should write?- African American Sleevers
Honey Bee...I am very sorry that you are experiencing this. I will pray for your healing, a speedy recovery and full restoration. You will get through this. Please keep us informed on your progress.- Pulmonary Embolism?
I actually have a history of PE...non surgical related and I live a very active life. I am currently on coumadmin for life. This was one of my main questions and concerns to my surgeon and pcp. Because of many history I am already at a higher risk of dot or PE. My doc will take me off of Coumadin prior to surgery and put me on lovanox before during and after surgery. It definitely frightens me yet I want to be informed as possible and take all necessary precautions to lower my risks given my situation- African American Sleevers
