After surgery I had such a hard time getting in all my liquids that I started using a straw and doubled my intake. That's the only way I can drink! I am 6mos out and haven't had a problem at all with the straw, I actually found I took more air trying to drink straight out of a glass that had ice in it trying to avoid the ice.

Yesterday I hit my 6mo mark and have lost 76.8lbs! Feeling amazing. That's a 65% loss of my excess weight. I have 42 lbs to my personal goal.

Oh boo! That stinks! I could barely stomach Protein post op and to have to drink one that I hate would be torture! I say they want to know what is in your system if something comes up, then bring them the container of whatever you are using.
It is so crazy how every single doctors diets are different. I'm sure if you couldn't stomach the carnation mixture another minute m, then they wouldn't object to you drinking something else. Better to get protein from a different source then not getting enough cause you can't stomach the on they require.
Good luck!

Good luck today! See you on the losers bench!

Pork is a bad one for me, always get sick after eating it. Mainly cause its so dry already and I have to chew it a million times, shredded pork isn't so bad, and Pasta is still a no no, completely cramp up inside when I try it, but I am still only at 6 mos so I try to avoid the heavy carbs anyways.
-
I have heard that a million time but from the majority of people I have met on my journey they have done way more then 60% and plenty met their goal.
I am already past 65%weight loss and am a week shy of 6mos out of surgery. I don't really understand the statistics of that statement, but most of what I have found had proved different.

Hi friends. I had a hysterectomy yesterday and was weighed before surgery---187. Today' date=' 199. What the heck???? I am so upset.[/quote']I don't think anything to worry about. I'm sure it's Water weight from IV fluids. Similar to a lot of sleeve patient coming out of surgery heavier then when they went in. Give it a few days. Have a speedy recovery.

What is NUT?
Short for nutritionist.

I had a consult with a surgeon and he's trying to talk me into the band. Given my bmi is only 36' date=' He thinks I will loose a great amount of weight and become malnourished. I believe there are other reason for his push on the band. Like follow ups and the fills, means more . I over heard him through the wall, to the room next to mine, trying to push the band on another patient. Should I give the band a try first then have revision later if it fails?? So stressed over this![/quote']First I would look up people that had band to sleeve conversions, then look up all the people with complications from the band. I was talked out of it by my original surgeon and when I had to switch for insurance reasons the other doctor also said he would not do the band. More and more doctors are not doing the band. It really is your personal preference but I'm sure you will be strongly advised to not do the band. Some countries have even banned it from being used.
Good luck with your decision.

Is MI Doctor cold???I was there in February and it was freezing, the common areas downstairs didn't have heat and that traveled thru the common areas of the different floors, the doctors and nurses had on coats and sweatshirts.... But cold being 50's. I had control of the temp in my hospital room and had a robe for the hallways.
Now being summer time my thought would be if its too hot. Not sure about the ac situation, but again I think you will have control of your personal room.

How far out are you? Is it right after you eat something? If so, it could be what is referred to as the slimes. Happens when we tend to over eat, usually causes me to throw up after the slimes start.

Started mine 2 days before, nurse took care of me during the surgery apparently since you most likely wont have underwear on due to the waistband getting in the way.... It did last extra long due to the blood thinners but the experience wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I had originally thought I was going to go with dr Lopez but after reading the forums here and obesity help and then talking with Alma (who was also highly recommended as a great coordinator) I decided to switch to dr Garcia.
I had my surgery at Mi hospital back in February and would not change a thing about my decisions. But I do agree about going with your gut too, all of the conflicting posts can get very overwhelming.... I found I Read certain negative posts about a doctor I would look at all the posts by that source and see if they seemed legit or if it seemed like they were working just to discredit a certain doctor or company.
Good luck with your decision!

My carry on was about 5 pounds and felt like 50 on the way home. I had to stop and put it done every few feet... Definitely recommend something with wheels if you can. (I'm guessing by the name you live in Orlando? Me too!)

I know your surgery is somewhat different then the sleeve, but what does the dr or nutritionist say about the number of calories you are getting daily? I know everyone is different but for only being 10wks out 1200 seems like a lot I'm almost 6 mos and still only at about 700-800.
What's your weight loss rate like? Hopefully some tweaking in your post op diet can help. Stay hopeful! It's a tough journey

So' date=' after about 3 hours of research (just beginning), I really liked the sound of Mi Doctor and Dr. Garcia. Now I've found out he's not with that hospital anymore. I haven't found any information on why he left/where he is now. Any feedback?[/quote']Dr Garcia is a wonderful doctor and his team is exceptional. I had surgery in February at Mi hospital but I totally wish that I had florence as an option at the time, it looks like an amazing facility. Definitely a new hospital with more up to date equipment from what I hear.
Good luck!

I had no luck with any over the counter treatment. And tries 2 different prescriptions... Dexilant is the one that has been a life saver for me.... Dr says that most sleeve patients will have it till usually 6-8mos out so they will reevaluate me then. Good luck

Little late on my 4mo update.... But sleeved 2/18/13 down 62.6lbs in 4mos! Lots of stalls, but still feel good about the lbs gone, 1/2 way to goal!
Starting weight 258.4
Current 195.8

Your mom sounds a lot like my father. Some parents just feel the need to be critical, that's how they feel like they are still taking care of us when we adults. That's my opinion. My dad has pushed for me to lose weight and even paid for me to have the procedure when insurance denied me.... Has not once said you look good, more worried that I may gain it back or it will stop working. I have lost 80 lbs in 6 1/2 months and have 40 more to goal. He will ask how much I've lost but never says anything about how I look. He does in fact tell other family members about my progress so I know he is proud and cares.
You are doing great so far and know that some parents have a different way of showing they care! keep up the great work!!!
