  1. The way my doctor put it was that it was safer for me to be pregnant with the sleeve then it was for me to be pregnant and morbidly obese. I would check into a new dr maybe, if you had a nutritionist that you have met with prior to your surgery I would reach out to them.... They told me when I plan to have a second baby then they would work with me to help set up a nutrition plan catering to the babies needs. It is totally safe, there is a thread on here about woman that have gotten pregnant even 2 months out.... Try to search for it I know they will be very helpful!!! Congrats!
  2. I had to find a primary care since I didn't have one near me. Luckily she worked with me and wrote a letter stating my need for surgery in order to get approval..... I also had to do a three mo supervised diet with PCP and the surgeons nutritionist. In my opinion if my doctor was not supportive of my WLS decision then I would find another doctor. After all, if we hadnt tried diet and exercise numerous times before then we wouldn't have come to the drastic decission to have the surgery in the first place. Majority of people that opt to have WLS have been obese the majority of their lives much like myself. And this is a long journey and if you don't have your doctor on board with your decision then it's in your best interest to find one that is, this is a stressful process and you don't need the added stress of someone you will have to work so closely with not being supportive. Good luck with the doctor and know you can always turn to this page to find people just like yourself to help you along the way!

    Where To Begin?!

Congrats on making this decision! I know it's a tough one.... So I'm going thru the process right now for the sleeve, no surgery date yet. I'm 30yr, female at same 257 as well. Originally I was also going with the band but for the amount of weight I needed to use the surgeon recommended the sleeve. I found a surgeon in my area and went to a seminar at the hospital. Most surgeons office have patient advocates that will look into your insurance company for you to find out exactly what they will cover, what clearances they will require, and what your out of pocket expenses will be. Them from there they will have you go to your primary care to get cleared for surgery..... I used to have BCBS and they may require a referral but the surgeons office will let you know. I had to do a 3mo monitored diet with Aetna ins. I just completed that and am now waiting for insurance to give the go ahead to set the date! It can be a lengthy process depending on what ins company requires but worth it. If for some reason ins does not cover it, which most do now a days, I have met with many of people that have gone out of the country to have it done at a reasonable price. That option just wasn't for me because I have a family at home to take care of.... Good luck!
  4. Oh I would love a date in September! But I don't want to get my hopes up, if I have in my head set on October then i can be even more excited if its earlier!!!! Currently I'm working on the new eating habits.... I'm a fast eater and need to drink more water!!!! Lol How exciting the 21st!!!! Right around the corner! I will keep you posted on what I here about mine!!!!
  5. I've already met with dr Kim and have done all my clearances.... Bloodwork, EKG, psych evaluation, and lastly pulmonary last week. My ins required a three mo monitored diet before surgery, and I meet with Ann, the nutritionist one last time next week and my patient advocate has to send all the paperwork to insurance for the OK!.... So that's where my waiting comes in, everything thru my PCP and dr Kim was approved! ..... I went for pulmonary clearance at celebration health, the office they recommend! Great place! Loved everyone there! I'm nervous because some people say that sometime the office takes awhile to get back to you to schedule even after the letter comes in the mail from the insurance co..... Biting my nails ..... Luckily I have an 18mo old at home to keep me busy while I wait! Hoping for sometime in October. Would love to be recovered before the holidays get into full swing.
  6. I am also working with dr. Kim! So anxious to get a date for surgery! I have one more appointment with the nutrionist and then everything gets submitted to insurance for approval..... Now the waiting game!!!! It seems like waiting to hear back for scheduling is the hardest part!
