    I Know I Shouldn't Complain But...

Had my post-op appt this morning and I graduated to soft solids. Thank you Jesus! I am eating 1/2 cup of hot and sour soup now and just happy I can chew the chicken and tofu rather than blend it. Who knew I would miss the act of chewing...??? Anyways, hope everyone is doing well. I have lost 12lbs since my surgery last Tuesday so moving right along.
  2. I'm going to attempt to become addicted to exercise and shopping. That sounds much better to me than alcohol. But, all playing aside, this is unfortunately a big problem with any addiction.

Foods You Definitely Can't Eat Early On?

I have made and eaten the following while on my puréed diet this week: *Homemade broccoli and cheese Soup *Homemade White chicken Chili *Tuna salad (tuna, mayo, and bread/butter pickles) *Homemade Chicken Salad (chicken, mayo, red grapes, apples, and green onions) *Chicken Enchilada with cheese sauce and enchilada sauce *Low or nonfat Cottage Cheese *Low or nonfat yogurt *Weight Control Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal You can add unflavored Protein to a few of these things and probably not be able to tell the difference. The chicken chili, chicken salad, and enchilada were my favorites although I am very much looking forward to eating soft foods in a couple of days.
  6. Thank you! I am also 5'1 so this has been something I've been considerably concerned with. My arms are big also, unfortunately, so I suspect that will be a problem area. At our height, the weight doesn't really have anywhere to go so it just kind of attacks everything. haha. Congrats again!
  7. I have been pretty adamant that I was not going to throw up. For one, my tummy is still so sore that it hurts to laugh or cough or anything so I knew throwing up would be painful. Secondly, I have all of you wonderful people to learn from. I told my husband that I have read over and over again how people eat to much or drink to much and get sick and that I would avoid that at all costs because I knew from your mistakes what not to do. Yep...that is true, but clearly not enough for me. I woke up early this morning (my first day home alone bc my hubby went back to work today) and I went downstairs to make me some coffee with Protein. As I was making it I had this really empty nagging feeling in the pit of my stomach and I had a sudden urge for something to drink. I felt like if I didn't drink something right then I would be sick. So, I grabbed a bottle of Water and proceeded, stupidly I might add, drink the water as if I were a normal person. Ha. I took probably two regular size drinks instead of "sips" and I paid for it. Within a minute I was standing over the sink regurgitating. I realize this isn't the most glamorous post, but I felt like it was a good lesson learned for a Monday morning. If there was any question in my mind as to whethe or not my surgeon actually cut me, I got my answer this morning. Happy Monday!
  8. Congrats on your weight loss! And, now if I may be a little nosy...??? You are very close to my starting weight so curiosity has a hold of me. How is your skin doing? It is something I've wondered a lot about and haven't found anyone who has been my starting weight until now. Sorry for the prying.

    Any September People

Hope everyone is doing well. I was able to walk some yesterday for the first time since my surgery (real walking not just to the bathroom). My tummy is still super swollen and very sore, but I feel a little better with each day. I am really struggling with getting my liquids in. I start as soon as I wake up and am only getting in about 20oz a day right now. It is driving me nuts. I have also had this rumbling in my stomach that I was mistaking for hunger and think now that it is gas. So, that is probably contributing to some of the tightness and swelling in my belly that is making me feel so bad. I had to skip dinner all together bc I just couldn't get anything else in there. Going to call my doctor's office tomorrow to see what they recommend to help with possibly going to the bathroom. Hoping that will solve all of my problems. Just giving an update bc some of you asked us to keep you updated postop so you'd know what to expect. Hope everyone has a great week! For those scheduled this week, good luck!
  10. Hang in there. A few more days for changing the rest of your life will be worth it. I felt like my insurance company was sitting on their thumbs forever and then one day it finally came back approved. At the time I was about to go insane, but now that I'm sleeved it doesn't seem like it was probably as bad as I thought it was. This too will pass! I know it's frustrating so just use this time to prepare your mind for the pre and post op diets to kill some time. I'd suggest going on the food boards and getting ideas for what to buy and make during your liquid and puréed stage. I wish I had done that and maybe that will help you feel like you are planning and moving forward. Good luck and keep us posted!
  11. If I had to guess I'd say that's probably part of r reason you feel weak and kinda sickly. I was able to start puréed foods 1 day after surgery and I feel like that has helped me to keep my energy and not be disgusted by having to eat the same thing over and over. I bet after you start eating something with more substance you'll feel better. That won't change the pain, it hasn't mine either, but hopefully will make you feel human again.
  12. Feeling a little embarassed to ask, but I didn't think to ask my doctor before I left the hospital and I have not gone since Tuesday so I am just curious. I realize I've barely eaten anything so this could just be part of the process, but it seems very strange to me also. I can't call my doctor until tomorrow so just curious what everyone elses experiences have been.
  13. Thanks, I am working on it. Yeah, the IV meds made me really sick. I am sure it'll all pass soon. I feel a little better with each day. Just wish it were a little more speedy. Enjoy your day!
  14. I'm sorry you are questioning things. That is not something I'm dealing with. I'm still very happy I had the surgery and just figure I'll take a few extra days to recover than everyonre else. I hope you start feeling better soon. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers!
  15. I am still on pain meds and there is no way I can stop them yet. My pain is still around 9/10. I am not in a fog or anything anymore though. The I my time I was like that was the first night in the hospital when I was still getting pain meds via IV. The oral meds are not the same bc they are meant to last longer and don't snow me under like IV pain meds do. I don't feel any different bc of the meds other than being able to tolerate the pain better. I think it's awesome that you are not having to take them, but if I were to stop those now I would be in much worse shape and wouldn't be able to get around the little bit that I am. It is amazing how much one person can differ from the next.
  16. So sorry to hear this! I had my surgery the same day and I feel awful too! I keep seeing all of these posts from people who had their surgery the same day or even after who are doing all of these "normal" things(like walking and going to the store) and I can't help but be super jealous as I sit here in all of this pain. I have not been anywhere since my surgery bc I am in way too much pain to barely move. I have been trying to walk, but I don't get very far bc my body starts to shake from the pain and I can't stand any longer. Walking to the bathroom takes everything I've got. So, I hate it for you, but at least you aren't the only one. I think we are all just so different and I had a reaction to the anesthesia so I wasn't able to get out of bed for the first couple of days which I think definitely slowed my progress. I am trying to walk as much as possible and just hoping the pain goes away. My tummy is so swollen and the muscle under my largest incision hurts so bad that I can hardly stand it most of the time. I am still having to sleep in a recliner because there is no way I can lay down in a bed. Definitely wishing for things to get even somewhere near normal because being locked inside for this many days is making me a little crazy. As for the bathroom, I haven't gone since before my surgery either. :/ Although, I am able to eat and have been since the surgery. It takes me forever, but I am able to eat about 4oz of pretty much anything pureed. Hope you feel better soon!
  17. Glad to know I'm not the only one! It isn't my normal topic of conversation, but it is funny how every thought seems to revolve around this surgery at first. I have done so much reading and research since Tuesday it's unbelievable. I have never gone this long before so it just feels unnatural. I may try to see if I can't get some fiber in today. I am having a terrible time getting in my liquids so I know that isn't helping. Really worrying about getting dehyrdated at this point. I've only been able to get in about 32oz of Fluid since surgery so I'm going to work extra hard on reaching goal today. Maybe that will help. I do not want a bad 1st experience when I do go.
  18. Oh, they sent me home Thursday night. I thought I'd said, sorry. I am living in our bonus room in a recliner since I can't yet lay down in a bed. It is getting old fast. What a predicament you're in! I hope you can find someone you trust to help you out. I can't imagine having to navigate all of this with children. Bless you! My hubby goes back to work tomorrow and it's making me nervous bc I'm nowhere near 100% so I can't imagine how scary that is for you knowing that you are in worse shape than me. Hoping we both get better soon!

    4 Days Postop--10 Lbs Down!

I am still very swollen so I was hesitant to get on the scale, but I couldn't resist the temptation and I have lost 10lbs since Tuesday. I couldn't stop smiling. That is just so amazing to me. I can't wait until I'm able to start working out and building muscle and working on toning as I go. This is just such a blessing!
