  1. If you have break through heartburn with the PPI, Gas X strips are the best. Also it may take a few days for the PPI's to start working.

    Can I Run?

Isn't it great to be able to move again? I'm 51 years old and just walked/ran my first 5K. A year ago I tried to run across our road and my body parts wouldn't move in unison, felt totally discombobulated and about feel on my face. Congratulations on your weight loss and getting fit...here's to a new you!

    Getting worried

It sounds like a urinary tract infection. The emergency room probably isn't necessary but it may not hurt to go to go to an urgent care type clinic. This probably isn't a complication from surgery but the previous poster is right, it won't go away on it's own if thats what this is it will only get worse.
  4. Gas X strips!! Several if needed.

    dry mouth

You might try some G2 Gatorade, if it tastes to sweet, mix it with water. Or the different flavors of Crystal Light, possibly watered down as everything tastes super sweet at first. Also sugar free hard candies helped me. My favorite were like lemon drops. This will pass, it just takes time.

    Stent. Leaks

So sad to hear that your having severe complications. I'm sorry I have no words of wisdom for you. They are giving you liquid anti-nausea meds aren't they? If not you maybe should ask for some? Sending healing and positive thoughts your way. Take care.

    Pain! Pain! Pain

One thing besides walking you might try is a heating pad or hot water bottle on your upper back. It worked wonders for me. Hope you feel better soon.
  8. For starters you won't need to bring any food, because your not allowed to have any, Dr. Lopez did my surgery last October, at that time he had his patients do a 3 day clear liquid diet before surgery. I ended up not taking a laxative because .....how shall I say liquid in = liquid out. Not sure if the liquid diet diet is still the protocol or not. I'm over 50 and like my little creature comforts, I stayed an additional 2 days at the Marriot because of long travel times and was glad that I did. These are the things I'm glad I took with me: extra panties, laundry soap, super comfy elastic waist shorts to wear under hospital gown when walking the halls, easy slid in shoes or slippers, panty liners, laptop, electric heating pad for gas pain, extension cord for all your electrical things, cellphone/charger. GasX strips. As far as food goes I took unjury chicken broth protien powder, and some chicken bullion to make broth with. You can use either the coffee pot or microwave in your room to heat things up. Sometimes the broth at the Marriot wasn't so great so I'm glad I had another option. Maybe some Crystal Light to flavor your Water. If you do some research on the Self Pay and Mexico forum you'll find lots of info. Wishing you the best, and congratulations on your upcoming surgery.

    Recovery

For me, the 2nd day out was the worst. I felt like I had done a thousand sit ups, and then somebody came along and knifed me. Walk when your awake, it really will help with the pain. And take as many naps as you can. You just had major surgery, anesthesia will be in your system for a few days so of course you will be tired. This will pass. Rest & Walk.

    Frequent Fliers?

I flew with unjury chicken broth powder, and other Protein powder for shakes, and they were not bothered. Maybe put a copy of your prescription in your checked bag with your protein? Scallops and shrimp were the first meats that actually felt good on my tummy the first couple of months. You'll just have to experiment to see what sits good with you, but stay away from anything breaded for a while. That can lead to an embarrassing restaurant experience.

    blood type question...

I too had my surgery done in Mexico, I had some previous health conditions, (diabetes, heat attack, hypothyroid etc), So for me a hospital with a blood bank and an ICU was a must . Most of the Dr.s in Mexico do the surgeries in such hospitals but if I were you I would make certain. Just in case.

    Ouchy Sex! Help!

The ladies are right on, you really should see a gynecologist. Sex isn't supposed to be painful...uncomfortable, maybe due to drynes. Painful no.

Poop talk - sorry if it's TMI

I had the same problem for the first 6 weeks post op, I had to go back to work after 2 weeks, so yes it was pads and panty liners. I also started taking a childs dose of Pepto Bismol, that seemed to be somewhat of a help, also Metamucil helped shall we say get my poop in a group. Now nine months later have the opposite problem. ohhh such is life, never a dull moment.

    Sweet taste

I also experienced everything tasting really sweet. one thing that helped me was to mix plain Greek yogurt with my reduced carb yogurt. I wasn't able to drink the protein shakes that you mix because of the amount of air (bubbles) in them, Premier brand shakes are not so sweet. The only place I can find them is Sam's Club.
  15. You just change your focus. Now it's not all about the food, and how much I can stuff into my face...but more about the company you keep and if something "tastes" good. And yes the leftovers taste just as good.
  16. My experience in Mexico, was that the doctor would come to the hotel in the evening or at at night after he was done doing surgery to remove peoples drains. i don't think think that they are being unreasonable when asking you to go to the Dr. But if your in that much pain, maybe you should be in the hospital anyway. Hope you fell better soon.

    BACK PROBLEMS, anyone?

I see a chiropractor and get a message once a month to help with the back problems. Part of my issue is age. You may try swimming or some other low impact type of exercise with alot of stretching. I've also tried physical therapy to no avail. Wishing you the best.

    Clothes, clothes, and more clothes

DH stands for Dear Husband. I went through the basement, there were about 12 of those big Rubbermaid bins, I resurrected some of my favorites. Some had been in storage so long that the elastic in the waist bands were rotted. There were a lot of nice work clothes that still had tags on and never had been worn. That way when I do buy a few new things I just tell DH that they were in the basement. Hehe... what he doesn't know won't hurt him.

29 years old and sleeved 7/19/13

I also urge you to quit, you have the physical withdrawal beat. Now its the mental part you have to deal with. I was a 2 pack a day smoker for 30 years, I know how very hard it is to stop, it took having a heart attack at age 46 to wake me up. Your healing will also go alot faster if you refrain, Good luck, and enjoy the start of your new life.

    51 and Getting Sleeved 8/8 !

Hi Jeanie, I had surgery the day after my 51st birthday, I too had a host of medial issues including diabetes and a previous heart attack. I was desperate to change my ever shortening length of life. This surgery was my answer. I was prepared to look older and have more wrinkles on my face, but in fact people tell me that I look 15 years younger, that I have a sparkle in my eye that wasn't there before, and that I look like I really healthy. I'm not at goal yet , but I will get there. For the first time in 20 years I do feel healthy, I actually ran/walked my first 5K this weekend. Life will be sooo much better than before. Even if you do have a few more wrinkles. Best wishes.

    getting my drain removed!

If you can rotate your tires with the drain in, you'll have no problem with the 30 seconds of discomfort when the drain comes out. You will feel sooo much better when it's gone.

    help!

Everyone is exactly right, check with your PCP. I think you are probably right about reducing your long acting insulin. Pre surgery I was diabetic also, I was on 30 units of Levimir, and Janumet. Now I take nothing!!! I know it's rough right now, work with your doctor, and I would bet that post surgery you'll be one of the lucky ones taking nothing also.
  23. I don't know how but somehow I did it. I had several medications that were not an option. As a former poster said, try mixing it with soft food (maybe SF jello)? I had to spread my medications throughout the day. Couldn't take but maybe 2 pills at one time. Sometimes I would try dissolving it in a tiny bit of water, then drink with a protein drink chaser. Hope this helps. It will get easier I promise.
  24. SleeveGirl-TX Your a true inspiration to never give up. Thanks for posting your story.
  25. Call and talk to the office manager, usually they are the the liaison between staff and the Dr., once told how you are being treated I'm sure your coordinator will get a chewing on and you should see results.
