  1. Went to my pcp today. He did some blood work, but sort of blew me off. I hope I can get him to refer me to an endo. I have suspected thyroid issues for a while and have ALL the symptoms. My mom told me a few days ago she has never seen anyone with skin as dry as mine! It's actually scaly! Is that how it's spelled? You get my drift! I've complained about crippling fatigue, heart palpitations, hair issues, etc.... Thanks for all the replies and concern. I was afraid I was over reacting. I had one lady tell me it's just my age. As we age we get these places on our arms! I'm a young 50!it just started all of the sudden too!

  2. Are you on blood thinners?

No... That's what's puzzling. My dad was on blood thinners and his hands were terrible from putting his hands in his jeans pockets, etc... This just started a few months ago... All of the sudden. I suspect I have thyroid issues and no one will listen to me, but it was before this started. I have all the symptoms, but only test my doc will run is tsh and it's in the upper 3s. Which he says is normal.

  3. It doesn't hurt... It's just blood pooled under the skin. Once it happened and tore the skin a little and bled like a stuck hog! I emailed my surgeon's office and they emailed me back within 10 mins! On a Sunday! Told me to call first thing in the morning to make an appointment. Hope it's nothing, but I am not a bruise! I've had maybe five in my entire life! I had Lipo and didn't bruise! My surgeon said he'd never seen that!

  4. This is happening with the slightest trauma to my forearms. The small one is from cleaning the litter box and the large place if from retrieving the remote from the recliner and the board scraping on my arm. It has been happening for about three months now. I'm 9 months post op. I don't take b-12 daily but get the mega shot every three months. Thanks in advance for any advice!

  5. The emphasis on drinking fluids is a necessity.

Consider very gentle stretches and things such as forward folds and side twists and back bends (only if you can guide yourself back slowly). None of this is going to be comfortable if you are constipated but will help guide things through.

If you need instructions on the stretches I can find links or explain further.

None if this is possible lol I have ankylosing Spondylitis and my spine is fused! :)

  6. Dehydration can cause Constipation for sure and can also contribute to kidney stones. You aren't getting enough fluids through your kidneys to flush the Calcium oxilate out' date=' or the other gunk that can cause the stones, so it builds up and then you get a stone (calcium oxilate are the most common type of stones). Drink, drink, drink! I got super constipated about two weeks after surgery and my NUT and NP told me not to take anything for it but just to drink more Water. I was frustrated because I WAS drinking Water, more than 70 oz a day PLUS other fluids and I was still stopped up. I got some Sennacot and Dulcolax suppositories and that got everything going again. Good luck![/quote']

Thanks! My kidney stones are a result of many many upper utis and it's been an ongoing issue for years. We just discovered the stones last week, but they tell me there's no way they were a result of my surgery... It's the type caused by repeated infections, but once they're blasted I'll need to really drink to flush them out!

  7. lol I know. ... how far out are you?

I am 3 1/2 months and I remember well what you're going through and although it doesn't help much, it passes quickly! If you have time before you go, I have a solution. Buy a chicken, carrots, onions and celery.... Cook together and once done blend a few veggies, a thigh meat until pasty and pour back into the broth. It makes it so much richer and yummy. I added a few potato flakes to a small serving while it was still runny, if felt like I was eating a gourmet meal!!

  8. I know I am supposed to be on strained food diet for 17 days' date=' but my family is going to the lake this weekend to bbq and go boating. My 17 days ends the 12th and the lake is on the 9th. Would it be bad if I ate some chicken that weekend... or shrimp? Lol this is me being a fat girl but man! Help please! Did anyone else stop liquid stage early?[/quote']

Short answer? YES! although I totally understand! Imagine your answer if i asked that?

  9. I've been struggling with a few things lately, and wonder if they're related. I've been super constipated. No mater how much, Fiber, dolax, Miralax I've taken I've not gotten relief. Just haven't had even an urge in over week. During that week I've struggled drinking Water. Actually drinking anything. I've not felt thirsty and feel super full with just a few sips even though I've been about to drink with no issues since surgery 3 1/2 months ago. To top it all off I have some large kidney stones that are going to have to be dealt with. I'm waiting on the call for the procedure now! When I went to the urologist yesterday they told me I was dehydrated and to drink more. Doubt the kidney stones are related to my not wanting to drink, but the Constipation? Could be? I know the lack of water adds to this issue, before I'm told! LMAO! ;)

  10. I had surgery on may 20 and kidney stones were a concern for me because I have had them a few times before. If you have had kidney stones before your Dr. can draw blood (or test the kidney stone if you passed one in the hospital) and see what mineral is causing you to make excess stones. That way you can know for sure what mineral to avoid. My Urologist and Nephrologist told me to make my urine really acidic. Drink Water with lemon' date=' lemonade, oj, etc. the more acidic your urine is the harder it is for the stone to form.[/quote']

I fear mine are the type produced from having so many upper utis... Will find out more when I see doc. I've just talked to her on the phone about my ct scan results... They're not passing, but still have constant kidney pain

  11. I am sorry to hear you have kidney stones as a post op! Definitely no fun. No fun at all! Are you going to blast them with lasers or try and pass them as-is. I am curious what the precursors are for creation of kidney stones. I heard a while back that they can be caused by excessive protein' date=' but do not know If this is the primary cause. We all take 80 g daily or higher as the WLS requirement. I've been taking my ideal body weight in Protein (180 g) for a while now, but have also been drinking 1-1.5 gallon of Water a day. Perhaps it is the large amount of Water that protects the kidney from stones. What do you think?[/quote']

Either blasted to surgically removed they are waaaayyy too large to blast. The are all over 1/2 diameter!

  12. I had a bout with kidney stones about a month ago. I am 5 months out and down 65 lbs. I woke up about 3am with splitting pains in what I thought was my side. Passed out twice at home' date=' by the time I got to the ER I was vomiting. 2 shots of morphine and 1 shot of tramadol (?) later and I was finally knocked out. The largest was 4mm. Doc said the passing out/vomiting was from the pain. (The contrast they tried to make me drink didn't help any!) No pain since I left the ER and doc said they probably passed without incident. Said cause was probably change in diet, and to increase my fluids intake also.[/quote']

I've been diagnosed with kidney stones, but I am 3 months out and mine are all over 13mm. I've had terrible utis for the last 3-4 years. I doubt they would have gotten that big in just 3 months!

  13. But then again' date=' if you think about it, most of us have bodies that are used to poor diets and junk food. I think it will work out either way with Protein or no Protein the first two weeks. My body has gone much longer with no nutrians, just junk.[/quote']

IKR? I once realized I'd go months without a sip of water! I lived off diet DP! it's amazing how Water is mostly the only drink I drink!

  14. My surgeon says absolutely NO Protien (only clear liquids) for 2 weeks after surgery. Patients have developed late leaks because of drinking Protien' date=' which can turn to a solid in your stomach. 2 weeks without Protien seems to have been fine for her 2500+ VSG patients, especially since the pre-op was really high Protien but everyone's plan is different. Staying hydrated is the most important thing.[/quote']

This post op diet will really result in hair loss down the road

  15. I have yet to throw up. Got close one time but haven't yet. I am now experiencing Hair loss but I'm not too worried bc I have alot of thick hair so II have some to spare. I finally got out of a stall today and hit 219. I was sleeved on 2/19 so I was thrilled to hit this weight finally. I have my 3 month follow up on Monday. I am going to have to get rid of clothes soon bc they are fitting me too big now. So happy about that. can't wait to hit onederland.

I go Monday for my 3 month follow up too! I wanted to be under 200 so badly! I weighed 204.4 this morning. Doesn't look like it's gonna happen :( I've not been under 200 in more than 30 years!!!

  16. I am 11 weeks out. My highest weight was 257. I lost 16 pounds in 8 months while awaiting approval. My surgery weight was 241. Today' date=' I am 214. That is about 2.5 pounds per week. Of course, I did not lose it like that. I lost 18 pounds in 15 days and then stalled for two weeks. Then I would lose for a couple of days and stall for a few days. That being said, I am on track and content that the scale keeps heading down. I have not been exercising as much as I should and I bet if I did, I would be losing faster, but I am thrilled to be losing.[/quote']

Wow, I thought I wrote this post lol I am 11 weeks out. My surgery weight was 239 and I am sitting @ 208. I've been there way too long! Waiting for it to start moving again! I've not exercised like I should and hope now that the weather is better I will be better! Hooked up my Wii today because I'd ordered a jillian michaels game and it came today. Hope to start it tomorrow!

  17. I am apple and having a terrible time getting rid of my upper stomach!! I've not lost a lb for weeks... I bought some new pants a d they are 14s and could wear a 12 in one pair I bought, but since pants are made now with a lower waist I can wear them! I've lost 7 inches in my upper stomach, but it's still wayyy too large and looks terrible! If it would go down I'd be Ok wearing size 12! I am 50 years old and will never be super slender because of all the extra skin. Therefore, I'd be fine at a 12 if my upper body would cooperate!! I've noticed my shoulders are narrower and I've lost in my face and my neck is more slender, but that hard, solid fat in my upper belly is stubborn and heck! I've had two bad utis and not exercised regularly. I hope that will help!

  18. went shopping today at Kohls' date=' started out in the women's section as I am used to doing but when I tried things on they were way too big. Had to hit the regular size section, amazing b/c I don't remember the last time I could do that. Its crazy how much more they have in regular sizes. Feels great![/quote']

I went to old Navy the other day because all my pants were falling g off. I put a few pairs of 16s in my basket thinking I was delusional. I tried them on and they were all too big! I had to go back and get 14s! When i got home all fit perfectly, but one pair was a little loose. I could have worn a 12! I was wearing 22-20 before surgery. I've not lost a lot of lbs, but I was thrilled to wear a 14! It's been 30 years since I was this size!

  19. I don't want to discourage, but cravings are super hard to get rid of! It's like in your stage, you want what you can't have! I was really hungry too. Here's what I did. I bought a whole chicken, an onion, carrots, celery and made some chicken broth by cooking it all together. Then I took the meat off one thigh, a small amount of the veggies and blended them really well and stirred them back into the broth. It made the broth soooo yummy! About 2 weeks post op I added a little instant potatoes until they were super runny and ate it with a fork so I only got what stayed on the tines. It saved me! PS... I added unflavored Protein Powder too!
