    Carbs....

Gamer is right. Only intake carbs that come as part of our protein. Don't eat carbs that are JUST carbs - crackers, potatoes, rice, pasta, etc.
  3. Anytime I eat sitting up I get gurgling.

    Pain when eating or drinking

Is it right under your sternum? That's where mine is. The surgeon said that's where the top of the stomach is and it hurts because that's where the food is entering the stomach and for some reason it's sensitive. For me, I had a hiatal hernia repair done there while he was doing my stomach. I figured that what was why but maybe not. But it does often hurt when I swallow food or drink.
  5. Your stomach is still swollen and healing. Don't worry about numbers at this point. Just do your best to follow your NUT's direction's. It will come in time. Some people are six months out and still can't reach the numbers.

    Question about sleep apnea

I was told I had to use it for 2 months before surgery. Apnea was one of the comorbidities that qualified me for surgery. You can't get the machine and fake it because the machine has a computer card in it that records your use and sleep patterns and you have to take the card in to be downloaded. I actually have come to find my machine comforting. The machine has a button on it called 'ramping' that you can hit as many times as you like that makes the machine start at at a minimal amount and work it's way up in pressure as you fall asleep. I'm long asleep before mine gets where it needs to be.

    Toddler and baby

I was told no lifting for the first few weeks after surgery, and honestly, I found it a burden to take my large purse. I think you don't want to be carrying a baby or toddler too much.
  8. I had some rib meat last week at 1 mo. and it sat fine. I was going to say it was probably the sugar in your barbecue sauce. But who knows? Everybody is different and handles food differently. What's good one week could come back to bite you the next week.

    Calories

Yup. Calories are irrelevant. It's all about the liquids and staying hydrated. Try to get your 64 oz. I'm 5 weeks out and still trying to get there.
  10. Mine was on the left side, but yes, I had pain like that still happening at 3 weeks out. Good news is that by 4 weeks it was all a memory.

    Questions...

Chili is a soft food. Applesauce is not a liquid it is a mushy food. Check with your own NUT to see what is allowed. I was only allowed proteins at that stage so still no applesauce or other fruits or veg. no matter how soft or mushy. Everyone is different. I put my chili through the blender before I ate it.

    Question....

I had a one week appt made before I left the hosp., then a two week and four week, six week, 3 mos. You really have a problem with your doctors office and should insist on getting in immediately.
  13. Hi Kimmy, I'm more in your boat, so let me answer you. Sounds like these other gals were quite healthy going in to it. You will be asleep when they intubate and extubate you. You will not even know it except that someone told you. It's not in long enough to give you a sore throat. How much will your stomach hold? 3 - 4 liquid oz. at most. liquids will drain right through the pylorus. For the first week you will only be on liquids. Don't look for a 'full' feeling. It's not something you want to feel. Follow your doctors directions on how many tablespoons you can be eating and don't go beyond that just because you don't feel full. As for your pain, it is different for you because you have chronic pain. You may find as I did that they try to treat your surgical pain while ignoring the fact that you have been on chronic pain meds for the past several years. This intensifies your pain levels significantly. They HAVE to address your chronic pain before they can address your surgical pain. Once they do that, you'll be fine. I've been on 24 hr. release Oxycontin. In the hospital, they simply wanted to give my Roxicet for sporadic pain. We had a rough 24 hours then I got talk to the doctor in charge of my medications. Since I wasn't allowed to swallow pills, he gave me a Duragesic patch on my shoulder for the chronic pain, then I was fine with the Roxicet for break through pain. Make sure you speak up and TELL them you need your chronic pain addressed. I'm not trying to scare you, I just want you to be prepared to speak up for yourself. Once I got home, I had about 3 incisions that caused a small amount of burning pain. I slept with pillows packed around me. It took about 2 weeks before the pain stopped completely. The others are right. Walk and drink as much as possible. It really does help. I stayed an extra day in hospital.

    Craving soda! Whaaaa?

My weird craving has been for nacho chips. I can go years without eating them but suddenly just want to sit and suck on them and chew them into dust.

    Pho?

You should be eating the broth now. The noodles are a carb and you should stay away from that. The meat you can put through the blender and eat.
  16. I've been on blood pressure meds for a few years. It's one of the reasons they gave me the surgery. Pressure shot up day after surgery but went back down again. Kept me in 3 days instead of 2 but I had a lot of vomiting and other issues.
  17. I have 6 incisions and one hole where the drain was. A few of them I never felt at all. A few of them felt a pulling, burning and itching for three or four weeks after. The worst of course was the larger one where the stomach was removed through.

    Biotin question

Biotin won't prevent the loss. It just helps it grow back in faster.
  19. I also drink the EAS and Atkins, but I drink them straight.
  20. I was back in my surgeon's office at 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks and will be again at 6 weeks then at 3 mos. 6 mos. 9 mos and a year. Each time I go I see the surgeon and the NUT. I get a lot of post op care, but that;s what my insurance is paying for. And I"ve also been instructed that if I have any questions I'm to call his office, not ask strangers on the internet, because that's why he's paying nurses 24/7 to answer the phone. Also, he's made it clear that he's my doctor for life. If I am ever taken to the hospital ER he is to be notified.

    Is this normal?

Yup, I felt that way too. It will go away as you get to have more solid things like yogurt.
  22. My doctor told me I would be a lot colder after the surgery. I haven't found it to be true yet. I always have cold feet anyway.
  23. I felt crappy the first two weeks also. Are you trying to drink protein drinks made from powder or the premade drinks? I found the premade drinks much easier to tolerate. I like the ones by EAS that we buy at Walmart. Taste like Chocolate milk.
  24. I didn't have real diarrhea. Just loose stools. I'd far rather have this and know that things are moving than the horrific constipation many complain about. Just drink drink drink so you don't get dehydrated. If it becomes a concern, see your doctor.
  25. HA HA. One of the reasons I wanted the sleeve was so that if people asked me if I has a bypass I could say NO and be telling the truth.
